Pre-licensure BSN Program Overview The pre-licensure Bachelor ofScience nursing major at SFState is a two year programwhich prepares students forentry level positions inprofessional nursing practice ina variety of settings. Graduates work as staff nursesin maternity, pediatrics,medical-surgical nursing,gerontology, psychiatric/mentalhealth, and public/communityhealth nursing.2

San Francisco State UniversityTransfer Admission RequirementsProspective transfer students must havecompleted at least 60 transferable semester units(or 90 quarter units). SF State does not accept lower division transfers students. Strongly recommended that all Lower Division GEs becompleted prior to transfer. A minimum grade of “C” (2.0GPA) is required for admission to SF State*. Speak with your community college Transfer Center or SFState Student Outreach Services for guidance. The four basic subjects must have been taken.*Second baccalaureate applicants are not considered transfers.They’re not required to complete GEs but must have a minimum Overallor Last 60 Units GPA of 3.0 at the time of application.7

School of Nursing BSN Prerequisites A grade of C or higher must be earned in allprerequisite courses. (C- is not acceptable.) 7 of the 8 prerequisites must be completed by thetime of supplemental application submission. Visit Assist (www.assist.org) to identify theappropriate course at your school.11

Additional Course RecommendationsWhile not required for admission, the followingcourses are recommended. They will benefitenrolled SF State nursing students and counttoward fulfilment of behavioral or social sciencesunits needed for the NCLEX-RN. General Psychology Nutrition Sociology or Cultural Anthropology12

School of Nursing TEAS RequirementApplicants must score 78 or higher on the TEASwithin 3 attempts total; regardless of version orapplication cycle. Fall 2017 applicants must have taken the new version, ATITEAS.TEAS results must be submitted at the time ofsupplemental application. 13The new version, ATI TEAS, will have a greater focus onanatomy & physiology and less emphasis on earth science.Contact ATI Testing, www.atitesting.com, for additionalinformation including test dates and study materials.

School of NursingOptional Supplemental CriteriaThe Admissions Committee will consider thefollowing supplemental criteria. Health-related work or volunteer experience Multicultural work or volunteer experience Multi-linguistic fluency within health-related or multiculturalexperiences. U.S. veteran or military statusApplicants who have any of these experiences mustsubmit a document or letter of verification on formalorganizational stationery.14

What Else Might We Consider?The Nursing Admissions Committee willconduct interviews with top candidates. Much like employment interviews, applicantsshould be prepared to address questions in aclear and concise manner.15
