2017 corporate responsibility reportabout chevron in Nigeriaour company’sfoundation is built onour values,which distinguish usand guide our actionsto deliverresultsChevron is the third largest oilproducer in Nigeria and one of thelargest investors in the country, withbillions in annual capital investments.Chevron companies in Nigeria havevarying interests in nine Deepwaterblocks offshore, with the companyoperating three of these blocks.Chevron’s interests in Nigeria includethe Agbami Field, which is Nigeria’slargest discovery. The Agbami Fieldlies 70 miles (113 km) off the coastof the central Niger Delta region,spanning 45,000 acres (182 sq. km).Chevron also has a 30 percent nonoperated working interest in the UsanField, located in 2,461 feet (750 m) ofwater, 62 miles (100 km) off the coastof the eastern Niger Delta region.A Chevron company also operatesand holds a 40 percent interest ineight concessions in the onshore andnear-offshore regions of the NigerDelta, operated under a joint-venturearrangement with the NNPC, whichholds a 60 percent interest.Chevron is continuing its efforts tomonetize recoverable natural gasresources of approximately 17 trillioncubic feet in the Escravos areathrough a combination of domesticand export sales and use as fuel incompany operations. The companyoperates the Escravos Gas Plantwhich is the processing facility for theSonam Development Field. The 40percent-owned and operated Sonamnatural gas field is expected to delivera total of 215 million cubic feet of thenatural gas per day to the domesticgas market and produce a total of30,000 barrels of liquids per day.Chevron takes its role as a memberof the Nigerian community seriously,and is active in many corporateresponsibility projects promotinghealth, education and economicdevelopment.In 2005, Chevron pioneered anew approach to communityengagement in the Niger Delta toimprove community participationin determining the social andeconomic needs of our neighboringcommunities. We supportprogrammes and partnerships to fightHIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis andother diseases.mass dewormingIn 2017, the company launched itsdeworming campaign in Idanre, Owoand Okitipupa Local GovernmentAreas of Ondo State. About 60,000school children benefited from themedicinal exercise, which contributesto their good health and nutrition.roll back malariaIn 2017, NNPC and Chevron carriedout its annual Roll Back Malariaprogramme in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State,in partnership with the State Ministryof Health and the National MalariaElimination Programme (NMEP). Thefour-month programme focused onEnvironmental Sanitation, CommunityAwareness, Prevention and CapacityBuilding. During the programme,8,000 community members andother key stakeholders receivedenvironmental sanitation/hygiene andmalaria control education; 44 healthworkers and 74 sanitation officerswere trained; and 3,500 long-lastinginsecticide-treated nets and 205refuse bins were distributed.HIV/AIDS campaignIn 2016, Chevron announced anadditional 1.4 million in fundingto support the second phase ofthe Prevention of Mother-to-ChildTransmission (PMTCT) project knownas PROMOT II in Bayelsa State. Ledby Pact Nigeria in partnership withCommunity Based Organizations(CBOs) and Chevron, the primarygoal of the project is educatingand mobilizing the population intargeted communities to reducemother-to-child transmission of HIV.PROMOT II focuses on healthcareseeking behaviors amongst women ofreproductive age, particularly thoseliving with HIV.Overall, PROMOT II’s activitiesreached 7,085 direct beneficiariesin 2017. The project counseled andtested 1,020 pregnant women. 19HIV-positive women were providedcomprehensive clinical care. Theproject also reached 6,844 women ofreproductive age with HIV/antenatalcare and PMTCT messages.river boat clinicIn 2017, over 49,808 communitymembers benefitted from the RiverBoat Clinic (RBC) services andimproved access to health care. TheRBC is a mobile clinic that servescommunities located along the creeksand islets in the Escravos areas of theWestern Niger Delta where there is noaccess to health care. In 2017, about19,273 patients received treatmentfor illnesses and injuries; 8,937 peoplereceived preventive health education;and 1,298 children under the age offive were vaccinated or immunized.Established in 2001, the RBC remainsthe first of its kind in Nigeria. 2017 corporate responsibility reportFocus Story‘PROMOT, a Life Saver,’says beneficiaryTwo days in the life of a young motherand her unborn child; one, causingdread, denial and hopelessness,the other, bringing hope, joy andsalvation.Kaiama is a small town in BayelsaState in the Niger Delta region ofNigeria, about half an hour’s drivefrom the capital, Yenagoa. SampoInemotimi, the community healthextension worker in the PrimaryHealthcare Centre, is also a Preventionof Mother-to-Child Transmission ofHIV (PMTCT) mentor with PROMOTII project. She conducts healtheducation programmes to reach outto mothers and young women in thesemi-rural community where earlymarriages are common.Ebi Patrick, a young mother of fourwho was pregnant with her fifth child,had heard about the outreach Sampowas conducting and volunteeredfor HIV testing. Ebi Patrick’s resultscame back positive. At first Ebi didnot believe the results, but Sampoencouraged her to take a follow-uptest, which confirmed her HIV status.For Sampo, the priority was clear get Ebi into treatment and preventtransmission of the virus to herunborn baby. She enrolled Ebi inantenatal care and antiretroviraltherapy at the health facility. Ebi alsobegan the “adherence counseling” tomake sure she stayed on treatment.When Ebi went into labour, sheknew what to do. She went straightto a health center so her baby girlcould immediately be given the drugNevirapine. Today, Ebi remains ontreatment, and she was ecstatic whenher baby’s early infant test came backHIV-negative six months after she wasborn.“I am very, very happy for the motherand that the baby’s results came backunreactive,” said Sampo.smile. “I was told that nothing wouldhappen to me or my baby if I took mymedication. I am healthy and my babyis, too,” she added.Pact’s partnership with Chevron beganin 2012, and to date, over 400,000individuals in Bayelsa State havereceived HIV messaging under theprogramme. About 1,000 HIV-positivewomen who knew their status throughthe programme have been linked tocomprehensive HIV care.While much of Pact’s work to stopthe spread of HIV has been publiclyfunded, private-sector partnershipslike the one with Chevron have playeda critical part in Pact’s response to theepidemic – both in accelerating impactand in making sure interventions aresuccessful.“I am so happy because my baby isnot infected,” said Ebi with a wideHaving dealt with other cases beforeEbi’s, Sampo knew support and followup were critical to ensure a successfuloutcome. However, Ebi’s case was abit more complex. She was also oneof four wives. Ebi couldn’t believe herHIV status and had many questionsbegging for answers. How did sheget infected? Who passed it on toher? How long has she had the virus?How would her husband react? Whatwould the community and the otherwives say? The thrust of our educational support strategy is improved access toeducation for all Nigerians. Chevron and NNPC partner on many of these programmes.Pupils of Regency College during the STEM Quiz competitioncommunity scholarship award:This award is exclusively forcommunities located in the company’sareas of operation. Scholarshipsare awarded to students in bothsecondary and tertiary institutions –60 percent for students in secondaryschools and 40 percent for those12 chevron in Nigeriain higher institutions of learning.Between 2008 and 2017, thecompany spent N2.48 billion on thisprogram, which has attracted 11,499beneficiaries in the last 10 years.In 2017, 1,214 undergraduate andpost-primary school scholarshipswere added to the pool of Communityscholarship programmes.national universityscholarship:This is a merit-based programme forfull-time, second-year undergraduatesin Nigerian universities (Federal,State and Private) in all states of theFederation including the Federal

Out of thisnumber, 298 emerged with First ClassHonours, 1,416 graduated with SecondClass Honours and 619 graduatedin different branches of the medicalfield.libraries and laboratorycomplexes:Agbami parties commissioned andhanded over fully equipped ScienceLaboratories to schools in Abia, Delta,Edo, Enugu and Zamfara states toenable high performance in thesciences.
