Unlike loans, they do nothave to be paid back. Scholarships come from a variety of college, state, and private sources such as localbusinesses, community groups and alumni. Scholarships are limited funds and are awarded on a competitiveand/or special criteria basis. Awards are available for students who are interested in particular fields of study, who are members of underrepresented groups, or who live in certain areas. There are need-basedscholarships, which are based upon a student’s demonstrated financial need, but there are also merit-basedscholarships based solely on the student’s ability to meet the specified scholarship criteria.Prior to applying for scholarships, review the scholarship information and requirements on the following pages.Applicants will be considered for all awards for which they are eligible.
