MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTWelcome to Wongu University of Oriental Medicine!Wongu University is the first and only school of Orientalmedicine in the state of Nevada. We are a dynamiccommunity of healers committed to promoting health and wellbeing through the knowledge and practice of Oriental medicineand our faculty seeks to work together with the students to learn,research and further develop the contribution of Oriental medicalscience. Our faculty and students are expanding and developing ourengagement with the community here in Las Vegas and connectingour healing mission to serving the world.The art and science of healing through Oriental medicine hasdeveloped and advanced for over a millennium using insightsof the human connection to nature and environment. It is a richand valuable resource for the optimal wellness of individualsand families upon which Wongu University continues to developand expand. Our program of study, research, service and clinicalpractice fosters an understanding of human nature and compassion for suffering to restore optimal healthand fitness to each individual. At Wongu University, we train students to use and integrate all forms of Orientalmedicine, including Korean medicine, and seek to understand and work with the best practices of Westernmedicine.Las Vegas is an international center for conferences and is a central hub to allow global engagement. GENERAL INFORMATIONTHE MEANING OF WONGUWongu (圓球) literally means “round ball”. It represents allelements that exist in nature and suggests the harmony thatexists within them and between all people. By extension, italso refers to the origin of life as well as the seeds of Orientalmedicine. As is true of all things that are at one with nature,a healer’s journey involves achieving balance and harmony inthe lives of patients as well as the healer. Coupled with themeaning of Wongu, the University’s logo of the three circlesrepresent the traditional Sam Taegeuk (three Taiji), a Koreansymbol representing heaven, human, and earth. WonguUniversity is also authorized to assist students with an F-1Visa to transfer in or out of Wongu University.Wongu University’s FacilitiesWongu University has over 12,000 sq. feet in two adjacentbuildings to meet the needs of both didactic and clinicaleducation. The academic building houses three spacious8

Classrooms are fully equippedwith teaching aids, including white boards, charts, overheadprojectors and screens, anatomical models, and otherteaching aids. The classroom used for practicum classes isequipped with 10 treatment tables. The second building, theWongu Health Center, has a serene meditation room, a patientlounge, an herbal dispensary, administrative and practitioneroffices, an intern lounge, and nine professional treatmentrooms. Students have access to and frequently use clinicalequipment in their clinical rotations, including acupuncturebeds, e-stimulators, disposable needles, battlefield needles,ear seeds, and moxa.All facilities are conveniently located on 8620 and 8630 S.Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89123; allowing for studentsand faculty to use the 110 bus line to travel to campus. Inaddition, Wongu provides roughly 65 parking spaces forstudents, faculty, and staff.Wongu University’s library offers services to students byproviding current news and information on Oriental medicine.Students are responsible for remaining current on librarypolicies, hours of operations, check-out policies, fines foroverdue books, and returning books by deadlines.Wongu University’s business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Classes are available during mornings,afternoons, and in the evenings; for both part-time and fulltime students. Clinic shifts are available in the mornings andafternoons for both part-time and full-time students.While Wongu University does not provide on-campus housing,there are many affordable housing options in the area.9

Wongu’s faculty membershave been in practice for over five years, are well-knownprofessionals in their own fields of practice, and activelyengage with students to nurture best practices and learning.Professors and staff work diligently to promote a successfulstudent-centered learning experience in both the classroomsand clinic.Washington, DC. She is married to U.S. Congressman DanBurton. In Indiana, she is currently on the medical staff atRiverview Health Hospital, Community Health Network, andHancock Physicians Network. She practices as a specialistin Internal Medicine and Woman’s Health at Riverview HealthHospital. In Washington, DC, she is an Assistant ClinicalProfessor of Medicine at George Washington UniversitySchool of Medicine and Health Sciences, since 2013. She hasalso served as a volunteer faculty member with the GeorgeWashington Medical faculty associates.FOUNDING PRESIDENTKatherine Duncan, BSJungsoon Cho, BAMs. Duncan earned her Bachelor of Science in BusinessAdministration with a major in Management from theUniversity of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lee Business School in 1989.Ms. Duncan has a distinguished career in Las Vegas politics,community service, and business. She has boundless energy,a commitment to quality education, and a passion to improvethe quality of life for all people. A resident of Las Vegas,Katherine has been a leading force in developing businessopportunities as the founder and president of the LasVegas Ward 5 Chamber of Commerce. She ran an energeticcampaign for Mayor of Las Vegas, losing to Mayor CarolynGoodman. At an event in 2015, Katherine introduced MayorGoodman, who commented on Ms. Duncan’s ability as a leaderwhom she respects. Ms. Duncan also possesses exceptionalabilities as a leader promoting historic preservation in theAfrican-American community, as well as serving as a leaderin the environmental movement.Rev. Cho is the Founding President of Wongu University ofOriental Medicine and has brought years of administrativeleadership experience to Wongu University. He has a Bachelorof Arts in Pastoral Theology from Sun Moon University inKorea, and served as a pastor in Korea. In 2002, he foundedthe Peace World Medical Company in Korea. From 2005 to2008, he was the president for both the New Hope EducationFoundation and the Ilshim Hospital Foundation in Brazil.BOARD OF DIRECTORSBoard Chair: Sang Kyun Kim, D.D.S., Ph.D.Dr. Kim is the Chair of the HJ Magnolia Global MedicineFoundation in South Korea, a global holding company.Its International Medical Center in Gyeonggi-do provincecombines the technological developments of westernmedicine with traditional oriental medicine. Former dentistat the National Hospital in Mogpo and pharmaceuticalresearcher at Seoul National University, Dr. Kim also servesas the CEO of Il Hwa, a healthcare corporation manufacturingfood products, ginseng, and pharmaceuticals.Ki Hoon Kim, DivM, ThD (Hon)Dr. Kim earned his Masters of Divinity degree from theUnification Theological Seminary in New York and receivedan Honorary Doctor of Theology from Sun Moon University inKorea. He has served as the Bishop of Chicago, where he alsofounded the Korean Broadcasting Company and became thepublisher of the Segye Times weekly Korean newspaper.Samia Burton, MDDr. Burton earned her Medical Degree from DamascusUniversity, Faculty of Medicine, and graduated with honorsin 1986. She is licensed as an Internal Medicine Specialistwith over 20 years of experience in several states in theUnited States, including Indiana, Virginia, Maryland, andWashington DC. Dr. Burton is a former chairman of theInternal Medicine Department at Riverview Hospital, and theMedical Director of Geist Primary Care, Urgent Care Centerin Indianapolis, Indiana. She resides in Indianapolis andSharon Roth, OMDDr. Roth earned her Master of Traditional Oriental Medicinefrom Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego in1997 and graduated with the highest honors. During herstudies, she worked as a research clinician for an NIH Studyof Premenstrual Syndrome and Oriental Medicine and as anacupuncture assistant at various San Diego clinics. Dr. Rothhas been a private practitioner of Oriental medicine since11
