What is a School Crisis? A sudden, unexpected, or unanticipated criticalincident that disrupts the school day May interfere with teaching, learning,attendance, and/or behavior Students, parents/guardians, staff, or othercommunity members may experience crisisdifferently Can affect a single school site or an entiredistrict

What is trauma?A trauma refers to an event or a situationwhere an individual fears for their life, was orcould have been seriously injured,witnessed violence, or tragically lost a lovedone. Exposure to this type of traumaoverwhelms the ability of that individual tocope.

Why is it important to respond to school crises?Providing effective crisis management andinterventions can: mitigate negative social-emotionalconsequences reduce the period of school disruption restore safety and security to the schoolcommunity to promote attendance, academicachievement, and wellness

District Employee ResponsibilitiesAll District employees are expected to: Adhere to the CPRR policy Respond to crisis incidents

School Administrator/Designee must: Establish a safe, civil and secure schoolenvironment Establish a multi-disciplinary School SiteCrisis Team –Safe School Plan Volume 3 Ensure that the CPRR policy and allapplicable protocols (see Section III) areimplemented

Local District Administrators must: Be responsible for enforcing the CPRR policy Establish a multi-disciplinary Local District(LD) Crisis Team to provide support toschools, as needed Designate LD staff to ensure theimplementation of this policy and provideguidance, training and support, as needed, tothe school site team

District Office Staff must: Support this policy by assisting LD withconsultation, training and support, as needed Provide annual training to LD Crisis Teamsand support training to schools sites at the LDlevel Align this policy with related District initiatives
