THE PATH TO BECOMING A CFESubmit an application.Applications may be completed online at www.franchise.org/cfe; applicants may alsomail their application to the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives (ICFE), 1900K Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20006, email cfe@franchise.org.Receive notification of your acceptance.Applications will normally be acknowledged within three business days. Someapplications may require additional information and candidates will be contacted.Upon confirmation, candidates will receive information which will enable them toaccess their CFE record online.Begin acquiring credits.You will choose among the many credit opportunities to satisfy the programrequirements. You will gain credits by participating in approved courses and attendingother learning events.Program completion.You must be a candidate in good standing to complete the CFE program andgraduate. You must complete all requirements within three years of the date youenroll; otherwise you will be required to submit a re-enrollment application andfee in order to continue and have credits apply.Beginning with the Class of 2019, all candidates who complete their credits,and whose status is confirmed by the Certification Program Director, may beginusing the CFE designation immediately. Graduation and formal recognition willtake place annually at the IFA Annual Convention.Congratulations, you are a CFE!A minimum of 3,500 credits is required to qualify for the Certified FranchiseExecutiveTM (CFE) designation. APPLYING FOR CFE CREDITParticipation CreditCandidates should list those eventsapproved for Participation creditswhich they have attended withinone year of date of enrollment.Experience CreditExperience credits are granted atthe time of application and may beupdated as the candidate continuesin the program.Please note: All CFE candidatesmust complete the online ICFEFinal Exam and the IFA FRANGUARD program as part of therequired 2500 education credits. Amaximum of 1500 education creditsfrom online courses and webinars ispermitted. Candidates must earn theremaining required education creditsby attending onsite programs.4www.franchise.org/cfeCFE credits will be granted to a CFE candidate for ICFE approved courses orseminars up to one year prior to the time that the CFE candidate enrolled in theCFE program.CFE applicants who request CFE credits for courses or seminars that were takenprior to the time the course was approved by the ICFE Board will not be approved.CFE credits will only be granted for courses or seminars taken if they were approvedat the time the individual took the course or seminar.A CFE candidate may request CFE credit for courses or seminars by ICFEapproved Course Providers that are offered as part of a company training programby the Course Provider. In such cases, if the request is approved, the CFE candidatemust pay an additional 200 fee for each course that is approved for CFE credits.Candidates should check their credits online regularly atwww.franchise.org/cfe. Any discrepancies, additions or deletions should be reportedto the ICFE office. Please watch the CFE Enews posted on the website forinformation updates.Final approval and granting of the CFE designation is made by the Institute’s Boardfollowing a review of each candidate’s application and course work. Candidatesmust complete all requirements by November 20 of the year preceding the year inwhich they expect to receive their CFE designation. Once a candidate completesall requirements he/she will be notified that they may commence using the CFEdesignation and will be included as a graduate of the following year’s convention,e.g. complete credits in 2020 – will be part of class of 2021. Official CFE pins andcertificates are presented at the IFA Annual Convention.

CFE credits may beaccumulated as follows: Participation: 500 CFE credits(maximum) Experience: 300 CFE credits(100 credits per year to maximumof 300 CFE credits) Education: 400 CFE credits earned byparticipating in ICFE special sessionsat the IFA Annual Convention, IFAseminars, online courses, and/or otherICFE-approved programs.CFEs must keep a record of credits earnedtoward recertification which will they need tosubmit at the time their recertification is due,along with the Recertification Applicationand fee.
