Family housing is in high demand, soapply early! For new students, the applicationdeadline is June 1, 2016. The non-refundableapplication fee is 40.00. Whether you are a married student(with or without children), a single parent, or astudent with a same-sex partner, UCLA offersyou several options for comfortable,convenient, and affordable housing. Thefollowing four university apartments areavailable to student families:University Village: This complex was builtexclusively for student families, meaningmarried couples with or without children, samesex domestic partnerships, and single parentswith children residing with them at least 50% ofthe time. University Village (UV) is 3.5 milesaway from UCLA. There areplaygrounds for children available throughoutthe secured complexes, as well as barbeques, aswimming pool, and laundry facilities whichenable plenty of community building forstudents and their families. Mostrentals start at 1200 and go to 1800. as long as they apply on time and meet all therequirements.All other students needing familyaccommodations are placed on a waitlist andassigned based on date of application, facilityand apartment preference, date housing isdesired, and apartment availability. There is noguarantee that accommodations will beavailable to students on the waitlist.Paying for RentIf rental prices seem to be out of your pricerange, you may cover this expense with yourfinancial aid disbursement. If you do not haveenough financial aid, you may look into theseoptions:Financial Aid Budget Increase: If rent is morethan what you are allotted in your financial aidbudget, you can apply for a budget increase byfilling out the current academic year HousingAdjustment Form and submitting it to theFinancial Aid Office (FAO). Take all paperworkto the FAO, along with a brief statementexplaining your special circumstance. Makesure you explain to the financial aidcounselor that you are a parenting studentpetitioning for an increase in your rentalbudget. The form can be found licationsbe divided equally across all quarters ofenrollment. Check with the Financial Aid Officefor current standard budget expenses.Payment Agreements: If you are unable topay your rent in full by the 1st of the month, itmay be possible to enter into an alternativepayment arrangement with the AccountsReceivable Office in Housing. Paymentagreements are limited to one per quarter.With proper documentation, they will be ableto assist you in some instances. Individualcircumstances may vary and students areencouraged to come in and discuss theirsituation with them.A payment agreement extends the duedate for your payment without the penalty oflate fees or the three-day notice that can resultfrom non-payment of fees. Asking for apayment agreement creates a new paymentcontract for you that will allow you to pay ininstallments. You must pay a reasonableportion of your month's rent by the due date,and pay the rest throughout the month,depending on your new contract.For more information, please contact theHousing Office at (310) 206-7011.Before meeting with a Housing representative,prepare the following:1. Bruin ID card2. Any financial aid documentation3. Any documentation of financialhardshipAlthough this form states that the maximumincrease a student may receive for rent is 200.00 a month, parenting students may4. Most recent paycheck stub5. Employer's info (name, address andphone number)petition for more.For undergraduates, the standard budgetexpense for rent is around 770 per month foroff-campus. For graduates, the standard rentexpense is around 1,086 per month.Important Note: Any approved housing budgetadd-ons will be funded with loans. Federalregulations require that all loans offered mustPayment agreements after students havemoved in must be arranged in-person. Section 8: Section 8 vouchers are accepted atUniversity Village. Please work with the UVManager to discuss the process of utilizing andprocessing your Section 8 information.Additional Family Members Living inUniversity VillageSince July 2008, a new policy has been adoptedwhich states that University Village residentsare allowed to have up to two immediate adultfamily members (siblings or parents) as guestsfor up to a year. Your guests will be given theirown keycards for the duration of their stay,and they must carry an ID with their picture atall times. The first month of your guests' staywill be free of charge, but an additional 50.00a month for rent will be charged for thepreceding months.University Apartments South TransfersStudent families who are currently residing inany University Apartments South complex areeligible to request to transfer after residing intheir unit for at least six months. You mayrequest to transfer from one complex toanother or from one unit type to another. Youmay only ask for a lateral transfer (differentapartment, same unit type) to anothercomplex but not within.Any requests to transfer to a smaller unit willdepend on the occupancy restrictions for thenumber of individuals residing in yourapartment and the age and gender of anydependent children you have.A transfer request can be initiated by visitingthe University Apartments Rental Office or theUCLA Housing Services at Sproul. The transferrequests in the University Apartments Southare processed only after all the applicants onthe waitlist have been exhausted, butexceptions can be made due to increases infamily size or due to authorized medicalconditions.Be prepared to make quick decisions abouttransfers. Normally, you are given 24 - 48hours to decide to accept a transfer whenoffered due to the high-demand. If you accept,families are usually requested to move intotheir new residence within the current rentalmonth and before the start of the followingrental month.Accommodations for Students withDisabilitiesStudents should contact the Office for Studentswith Disabilities (OSD) at (310) 825-1501 or(310) 206-6083 (TDD) or visit the following website: http://www.osd.ucla.edu. OSD will submita recommendation on behalf of the student tothe Assignment Office.Students and their children with disabilities orother special needs can be accommodated inmost but not all of our facilities. TheAssignment Office staff work closely with OSDto coordinate the student's assignmentprocess. The OSD acts as the student's liaisonand assists in identifying the most appropriatefacility and room type to meet thedocumented needs.Housing in the CommunityStudents who prefer to live away from campusin complexes not owned by the University mayvisit the UCLA Community Housing Office website http://www.cho.ucla.edu for listings ofprivately-owned vacant and shared rental unitsnear the campus. Subsidy, which is income-based. If you believeyou qualify, make sure you submit the TuitionAssistance Request Form and attach it to yourECE application. The second type of assistanceavailable is the ECE Tuition Scholarship. Pleasecomplete Scholarship Application and submit itwith your ECE application. The scholarship is agood option for students whose incomeexceeds the qualification for the tuition subsidylisted above. Parenting students needingadditional resources to pay for childcareexpenses can submit a "Budget IncreaseForm," located under the 2014 - 2015Academic Year Appeal Forms on the FAQ'sForms web page.UCLA Child Care Resource Program: UCLAparents are invited to attend a "Choosing ChildCare" forum, held at noon on the first Mondayof each month at the Bruin Resource Center(SAC, B44).
