NORTH THURSTONPUBLIC SCHOOLS2022-23 Calendar

SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE:Board of DirectorsWelcome to the 2022-23 school year! The start of school is one of my favorite timesof the year. Fresh off a relaxing summer, ourstudents come back energized and ready. Inclassrooms across the district, our teachersengage students with lessons that inspire alove of learning and leave them excited for theyear ahead. There’s nothing like that first day!Day one is the start of our mission-drivenwork. Everything we do in the classroom, fromthe first day of school until the last day of theyear, is geared towards this: preparing students for rewarding careers, fulfillinglives, and compassionate global citizenship.Tiffany Sevruk (District 2)DirectorJennifer S. Thomas (District 3)DirectorThat’s our goal. Of course, reaching this objective is years in the making. The journey begins in Kindergarten, when students learn the basics ofphonetics and mathematics. The study of the salmon life cycle in fourthgrade, the introduction to computer programming in middle school, and theopportunities to learn more about the visual and performing arts in high schoolare essential landmarks in our students’ journey.Dave Newkirk (District 5)PresidentGretchen Maliska (District 1)Vice PresidentEvery classroom is a contributor. By the time our students walk across the stagewith their diplomas, they will have had countless opportunities to learn andgrow as individuals and as part of a community.Learning can be challenging, and that is where the growth happens. Findingsolutions to problems big and small is at the heart of learning. For this reason,we have chosen “Solutions Seekers” as our theme for the 2022-23 school year.We have filled the pages of this calendar with many examples of SolutionSeekers in action. You will see that our district has no shortage of studentsand staff working together to solve problems. I hope you find the pictures asmotivating as I do!A note about this year’s calendar: you will notice more room to write on eachcalendar page. This was intentional, as we want this to be a usable calendar foryou. We hope you’ll take advantage of the extra space, adding your notes andevents as we progress through the school year. Here’s to our Solution Seekers!Debra J. Clemens, Ph.D.Superintendentdclemens@nthurston.k12.wa.usA Compassionate CommunityAs part of the Charter for Compassion International,NTPS, the City of Lacey, and the Lacey South Sound Chamberhave joined together to promote positive behavior andkindness throughout our community. Please join us in thiseffort by talking about compassionwith your student or participating ina compassionate activity together.ntps.news/compassionGraeme Sackrison (District 4)Director
