She has oversight over MedicalReview of Promotional Materials, Medical Information, and the Designated Point of Contact center. Poonam has over 25 yearsof experience in the Medical Affairs setting and has two publications regarding social media and medical information trends.Poonam is a DIA planning board member and is currently serving a three-year term for the Medical Communications/MedicalWriting Track for DIA Annual. She chaired the 2019 DIA Med Comm meeting and continues to be actively involved. Poonamgraduated from Rutgers College of Pharmacy and completed her PharmD from Shenandoah University.Poonam BordoloiPharmD – Fellowship DirectorTaeho Lim is Associate Director of Global Medical Information at Organon. He is a proud alumnus of Massachusetts College ofPharmacy and Health Sciences. His experience spans from Medical Communications to Global Medical Information. Table of ContentsProgram OverviewThroughout the two-year program, there will be a focus on digital innovation and high-impact projects that align with businessdevelopment opportunities. During their first year, Fellows will rotate between GMCI and SMCC at six-month intervals. During the secondyear, fellows will have the opportunity to select two six-month elective rotations to work closely with Commercial (APR), Medical Affairs(Medical Excellence or FM COE), or continue their work within GMCI and/or SMCC, dependent on workload. A concerted effort will be made tointegrate the fellows into special projects for their professional development and to expose them to multiple facets of the pharmaceuticalindustry, with a focus in the Medical Affairs organization. Table of ContentsRutgers Institute for Pharmaceutical Industry FellowshipsErnest Mario School of Pharmacy – Rutgers, The State University of New JerseyProgram HistoryIn 1984, at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the Ernest Mario School ofPharmacy and two pharmaceutical companies began a collaborative pilot program toevaluate the potential contributions of clinically-trained pharmacists within apharmaceutical industry practice setting. Following the successful pilot, the RutgersPharmaceutical Industry Fellowship (RPIF) Program grew significantly and expandedto include 21 companies within the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry andapproximately 300 Fellows.In 2002, Dr. Ernest Mario generously provided an endowment to establish theInstitute for Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships to enhance and promote the roleof pharmacists in industry through the RPIF Program. The Institute staff members: provide leadership and administrative support; promote quality, communication, and scholarly activity; and arrange specialized fellowship training opportunities within the pharmaceuticaland biopharmaceutical industry.In 2018, our Program expanded to offer interdisciplinary Fellows’ training by addingselect physician fellowship opportunities to our well-established program.More than 1,300 Post-Doctoral Fellows have completed the RPIF Program, most ofwhom are experiencing influential and rewarding careers in the pharmaceutical andbiopharmaceutical industry throughout the US and abroad. The RPIF Program hasPreceptors and Mentors from industry who share their knowledge and experienceswith the Fellows through an intense but closely-guided training program. Table of ContentsRutgers Institute for Pharmaceutical Industry FellowshipsProfessional Development SeriesRutgers, The State University of New JerseyAll Fellows gather once monthly as a group to participate in the ProfessionalDevelopment Day (PDD) series, an important component of their training thatcomplements the hands-on experience provided at the partner companies. ThePDDs are steered by a committee of Fellows and are designed to enhance theFellows’ leadership skills such as emotional intelligence, communication, criticaldecision making, and presentation skills. Fellows develop skill sets under theguidance of external trainers. PDDs also provide general knowledge about variousaspects of drug development/commercialization and issues facing thepharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry, and promote connectivity and asense of community among Fellows and alumni from different companies anddisciplines.Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, with over 71,000 students in itsthree campuses, is one of the major state university systems in the UnitedStates. The New Jersey College of Pharmacy was founded in 1892 and wasincorporated into the University in 1927. The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacyis part of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, the only state school ofpharmacy in New Jersey, with approximately 1,350 students in its Doctor ofPharmacy degree program. The Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy islocated on the University’s main science and technology campus in Piscataway,New Jersey. Because of its relationship with and, for most, close proximity tothe nation's leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, theErnest Mario School of Pharmacy and the RPIF Program are uniquely capableof providing fellows with advanced training in the pharmaceutical andbiopharmaceutical industry.The Fellows can learn from each other through individual and group presentationsand debates on topics and issues related to the pharmaceutical andbiopharmaceutical industry. The dynamic forum of PDD provides an opportunity foropen discussion and debate among fellows, Rutgers faculty, and companyPreceptors. In addition, outside experts provide training and professionaldevelopment in a variety of areas (e.g., tools for corporate success; professionalwriting, presentations, meeting facilitation, negotiating, influencing, networking, andconflict resolution skills; giving and receiving feedback; and business and diningetiquette). Other PDD guest speakers include senior industry executives, patientadvocacy groups, and successful RPIF Program alumni who share their insightsand experiences. Importantly, PDDs provide an excellent opportunity for Fellows tointeract with each other and develop lasting personal friendships and a strongprofessional network of Fellows, faculty, alumni, and other industry executives.17
