SEMINAR INFORMATION SHEETWelcome to our seminar for Municipal Judges. If you have questions that this information sheet does not answer, theCenter staff will be glad to assist you. We hope you enjoy the program.ATTENDANCEThe Board of Directors of Texas Municipal Courts Education Center has ruled that attendance records are mandatory. Inorder for you to receive a certificate of attendance for this seminar, you must attend all 8 hours in Day 2. Roll maybe called at any time and failure to attend without first informing a Center staff employee prior to missing can cause youto not receive attendance credit for the program. If you are late entering any session, please inform a staff member priorto entering the room. Your badge is your proof of identification. Please wear it at all times during the seminar. He wasappointed as a Pro Tem Municipal Judge for theCity of Fort Worth in 2004 and held that positionfor 2 years, before being appointed as a full timejudge in 2006.Mr. Bradshaw graduated with honors from TexasChristian University in 1985 and then BaylorLaw School in 1991. He worked in privatepractice in Fort Worth starting in 1991 through2006, first with Watson, Caraway Law Firm andlater as a Sole Practitioner.Born and raised in Waco, he is married with twosons.BREE BUCHANANBree Buchanan, J.D., a 1985 graduate ofSouthwestern University and a 1989 graduate ofthe University of Texas School of Law, practicedlaw in the public and private sector with a focuson representing both adult and child victims offamily violence. Upon graduation, Ms. Buchananserved as a family law attorney for Legal Aid ofCentral Texas and went on to have a law andmediation practice in Austin. In 2002, Ms.Buchanan was appointed Clinical Professor andCo-Director of the Children's Rights Clinic atThe University of Texas School of Law.In 2010, Ms. Buchanan joined the Texas LawyersAssistance Program of the State Bar of Texas.TLAP provides crisis counseling and referrals tolawyers, law students and judges who areexperiencing substance abuse and/or mentalhealth concerns, as well as outreach andeducation on these issues. Ms. Buchanan is theliaison with the nine law schools of Texas andspeaks to students about behavioral health andwellness. Ms. Buchanan is a graduate student atthe Seminary of the Southwest and is pursuing aMasters in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care.CARRIE CHAVEZCarrie Chavez is an attorney in private practice inDallas, specializing in juvenile delinquency andchild welfare cases. Ms. Chavez attended theUniversity of Texas at Austin, receiving a B.A. inGovernment in 1990. She received her JurisDoctorate in 1993 and was licensed to practicelaw that same year. Her areas of practice haveincluded criminal prosecution, criminal defense,and family law. While in law school, he worked in themediation clinic, was a finalist in the Thad T.Hutcheson Moot Court Competition, and servedon the executive board of Assault & Flattery.Ursula Hall comes from a long line of socially,civically and politically involved citizens. Shewas inspired by her parents along with hergrandfather, J.E. “Jimmy” Middleton, legendaryadvocate for union workers. Judge Hall alsogives credit for her success and her desire toimprove her community to her grandmothers,Quintanna Hall Alliniece and Winnie Middleton.Judge Hall graduated from a local public magnetschool for the academically gifted and talented,Wellesley College, and South Texas College ofLaw. Prior to that shewas the Director of the Public Service/Law-Related Education Department of the State Bar ofTexas and the Executive Director of LawFocused Education, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profitcorporation dedicated to educating young peopleabout the law. She earned a B.A. in Governmentfrom Beloit College in Wisconsin and a Mastersin Human Resource Development from theUniversity of Texas at Austin. A native Texan,she has a 26 year old daughter, Molly (who iscurrently a law student at the University of Texasat Austin), and enjoys outdoor recreation andtravel.STELLA MATAStella Mata came to the court with a strongbackground in financial banking. She began hercareer as a Municipal Court Clerk in 2009 withthe City of Mansfield and currently holds theposition of Juvenile Case Manager with the Cityof Forest Hill, where she has developed theprogram and a strong rapport with theeducational community providing a variety of oncampus classes. She has presented juvenile andeducation-related legal topics at statewide andregional conferences for law enforcement,educators and administrators, and probationofficials.
