Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMSummaryIs it true that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”? Whilethere are many factors and perceptions that shaped ourbeauty definition, one has to agree that people tend tonaturally gravitate towards things, places, and people theyfind beautiful. The wide usage of social media has alsorevolutionised our “beauty” perceptions.Digital technology and social media are more often andfluently used by younger generations. Both Millennialand Generation Z post more pictures and videos ofthemselves than previous generations. They are morediverse, educated, idealistic and connected. Some haveeven become Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) or influencerswho provide personal experiences and opinion in aspecific industry to push certain products. This has creatednew business opportunities and reshaped the beauty &cosmetic industry.Notably, Millennial and Gen Z are also expected to have a longer life expectancy and marry late or even remainsingle. Thus, making them even more conceited and conscious of the way they appear or present themselves, especially when they are single.Hence, it’s not surprising to see the rise of the “beauty-from-within” market – as people are looking for the notionof “wellness beauty” from within – which include nutricosmetic products that can help bolster skin and hair health. This whitepaper describes the unique benefits and clinical studies of these branded-ingredient ofVitamin E Tocotrienols and natural Mixed-Carotenes in nutricosmetics.“Wellness Beauty”ExcelVite’s clinically-researched EVNol SupraBio and EVTene are well-positioned to provide scientifically-substantiated resolution(skin and hair) for oral beauty or nutricosmetic products.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence3

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMTocotrienol“Super”TocotrienolVitamin EBeyondUnsaturated TailAntioxidantThe vitamin E family consists of eight different compounds- four tocopherols and four tocotrienols. While mostpeople recognize tocopherols, not many have heard oftocotrienols.Tocotrienols have been proven scientifically to exhibit 4060 times stronger antioxidative property than tocopherols.Tocotrienol differs structurally from tocopherols by thepresence of three double bonds in the side chain, whichenables tocotrienols to exhibit efficient penetration intocell membranes for biological actions [1]. Additionally, tocotrienol preferentially accumulates in the uppermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum) naturally toprotect from free radical- and UV-induced damages.A published peer-reviewed tissue distribution humanclinical study [4] showed that our body preferentiallyaccumulates tocotrienols form of vitamin E in the skin. The poly-unsaturated isoprenoid side chain of tocotrienolsallows them to move efficiently and effectively across theunsaturated cell bilayer membrane when compared toalpha-tocopherol. As such, it is not surprising that beinga more potent antioxidant, tocotrienol is the skin's first lineof defence against these damaging free radicals and sunlight [2].Free Radicals (ROS)Due to these unique attributes and benefits, tocotrienols (the unsaturated form of VitaminE) has been called the “Super Vitamin E” in thecosmetic and personal care industries. The renowned Dr. Nicholas Perricone (Dermatologist at the Yale MedicalCentre), in his NY Times' best seller book - "The Wrinkle Cure ", advocated theuse of tocotrienols (ie : High Performance Vitamin E) in cream to promoteskin health and prevent skin aging.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence4

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMEVNol SupraBio Patented and BioenhancedFull Spectrum PalmTocotrienol/Tocopherol ComplexWhile there are different kinds of tocotrienol in themarket to choose from, one must be mindful that the oralabsorption of tocotrienol (as a fat-soluble compound) ispoor and erratic in nature. Hence, it is crucial to choosethe right tocotrienol that could overcome this poorabsorption issue.EVNol SupraBio is a patented and bioenhanced naturalfull spectrum palm tocotrienol/tocopherol complex thatensures consistent and enhanced absorption of eachindividual tocotrienols up to 300% compared to regulartocotrienol extract [3].Patented and Bioenhanced Full SpectrumPalm Tocotrienol/Tocopherol ComplexIn a human clinical study published by researchers at the OhioState University Medical Center, supplementation of tocotrienol(EVNol SupraBio ) shows that tocotrienols are taken up efficientlyand deposited at vital human organs, including skin [4].The fact is that - taken together with other publishedclinical studies in relation to hair growth, skin health andother unique benefits, EVNol SupraBio is the mostclinically-researched tocotrienols in the market, due toits bioenhanced absorption property. EVNol SupraBio exhibits these 3 unique attributes – Bioavailability,Bioefficiency and Bioefficacy (3 B’s).Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence5

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMTocotrienol& Healthy Hair VolumeHair is considered an essential part of overall identity, especially women. It is a symbol of attractiveness andbeauty. Hence, hair thinning and baldness are sensitiveissues. A ground-breaking study was conducted at theSchool of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of ScienceMalaysia that recruited twenty-one volunteers sufferingfrom hair loss were given 100 mg daily of mixed palmtocotrienol supplementations while at the same timeanother 17 volunteers were administered with placebo. All 38 participants, aged from 18 to 60 years, withvarying hair loss condition had a 2 x 2 cm area markedon the scalp. Number of hairs were observed in thispre-determined scalp area for all volunteers, beforeand after supplementation. At the end of the 8-monthssupplementation, the number of the hairs in the volunteersin the tocotrienol supplementation group increasedsignificantly for a value of 34.5%. The group of volunteersreceiving placebo showed a 0.1% decrease in the numberof hairs. The researchercredited this efficacy oftocotrienol in improvinghair coverage due to itsantioxidant activity [5].An average of 34.5% increase in the number of hair was observedafter 8-month EVNol SupraBio supplementation.Figure 1a. Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMHair Growth Mechanism :Beyond Antioxidant ActivityElucidation of the pathway of tocotrienol acting on hairloss has further enhanced the understanding and thusdemonstrate the effectiveness of tocotrienol in managinghair loss. A recently published study in 2017 observed thattocotrienol rich fraction (TRF) from oil palm induce theanagen hair cycling [6]. Anagen is the active phase of hairfollicles during which the root of the hair is dividing rapidly, adding to the hair shaft, while telogen is the restingphase of the hair follicle lasting for 1 – 4 months beforethe hair falls out. The administration of TRF was in theform of EVNol SupraBio . The EVNol SupraBio -treatedmice showed growth of black hair shaft of anagen hairsin an area that has been depilated. This diabetic mice hasan impaired anagen induction thus the process of growingnew hair which is supposed to be a bit difficult weremade easier after topical application of EVNol SupraBio .The skin of the mice in the placebo group on the otherhand remained in telogen phase. Topical application ofEVNol SupraBio for 7 days consecutively also resulted inthe manifestation of hair follicle developments i.e. placode, hair germ and hair peg; all features that are absent inadult skin. Taken together with the earlier human clinicaltrials, it is evident that EVNol SupraBio is effective inpromoting healthy hair growth and hair volume .Patented and Bioenhanced Full SpectrumPalm Tocotrienol/Tocopherol ComplexThese studies resulted in ExcelVite being granted a USPatent No: 7,211,274 for tocotrienol’s unique effect inpromoting hair growth [7].Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence7

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMTocotrienol &AstaxanthinImprove Skin Characteristicsin Harsh Winter ConditionIn 2002, researchers in Japan conducted a clinical studyduring winter season with a synergistic combination of 2mgastaxanthin and 40mg EVNol in Japanese women withdry skin characteristics. After 4 weeks of supplementationof this synergistic combination and placebo softgels, thesupplemented group showed an increased moisture level, consistent sebum level, improved elasticity, and reductionof fine wrinkles, pimples and swelling under the eyes. Onthe other hand, the skin condition of subjects receivingplacebo are generally worsened during the test period [8].A noticeable improvement onthe skin condition was observedwith synergistic combination ofEVNol and astaxanthin.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence8

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMTocotrienolImprovesSkin Moisture andAntioxidant LevelScientists at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) havedeveloped a formulation for facial gel masks infused withtocotrienol (EVNol ) in 2014 and subsequently conducteda clinical study to evaluate the efficacy commercial versusEVNol -infused gel mask and placebo in skin health of20 healthy volunteers. EVNol -infused gel mask showedthe most significant hydration benefits, compared tocommercial gel mask and placebo by maintaining about50% of skin moisture compared to untreated area. Theskin permeates fluids collected from the treated group alsocontain high amount of tocotrienols and exhibited potentantioxidant activity via DPPH-scavenging analysis [9].EVNol -infused gel maskshowed significant hydrationbenefits compared tocommercial gel mask.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence9

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMTocotrienol &Photo-Protectionof the SkinResearchers at the University of Milan recruited 30 subjectswith photosensitivity and evaluated the efficacy of a newtopical antioxidant formulation containing tocopherolsand tocotrienols on preselected areas (2x2cm) on thesubjects’ buttock after a double dose exposure ofUVB light. The UVB exposure was given according topredetermined minimal UVB erythema dose (MED). Onthe forearms of 15 of the subjects, 2 similar areas wereselected on each subject, applied with a simple vehicle onone area and vitamin A on the other. These areas are thenexposed similarly to the two-fold MED after 30 minutes. Results showed that pre-treatment with this full spectrumvitamin E topical formulation (containing both tocopherolsand tocotrienols) significantly protected againstphotosensitivity in the 30 subjects, compared to vitamin Aor simple vehicle. The researchers also noted that“sufficient level of protectionto photo-provocation testwas achieved with a singleapplication”, and that the newformulation was safe and didnot cause any side effects onthe subjects [10].Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence10

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMOn-GoingClinical Trialwith Tocotrienol andScar TreatmentResearchers at The Ohio State University Medical Centerdiscovered that tocotrienol helps to increase rete ridgesformation in burned wound in response to topicalEVNol treatment. This is an exciting finding – as reteridge interlocking connection between the dermis andepidermis is important for healthy skin function. They are now conducting the firstever clinical study to investigatethe efficacy of tocotrienol in thetreatment of surgical scar andwounds (11).These images are for illustration purpose.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence11

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMMixedCarotenoidsYour Next FavouriteBeauty IngredientCarotenoids are well-known colours and pigmentsnaturally found in plants and vegetables. In nature, crudepalm oil is the richest source of mixed-carotenoids.Carotenoids, apart from possessing provitamin A activityand natural pigment, they are crucial to the antioxidantdefence system in humans and thereby, exhibit manyhealth beneficial effects.EVTene is a natural mixed-carotene complex derivedfrom Non-GMO palm fruits. In fact, palm fruits (Elaeisguineensis) is the world’s richest natural plant source ofcarotenes in terms of retinol (provitamin A) equivalent. Itcontains up to 300 times as many retinol equivalents ascarrots, leafy green vegetables, and tomatoes.TRUE Mixed-Carotene Complex(high in alpha- and beta-carotene)Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence12

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMBeta-CaroteneIn The MarketThere are 4 main commercial sources of carotenoids,namely1) Synthetic beta-carotene from petroleum2) Fermentative beta-carotene from fungus3) Algae beta-carotene4) Palm mixed-carotene complexSynthetic beta-carotene is commonly known as “natureidentical beta-carotene” as it is chemically synthesized, that is made up of 100% beta-carotene. On the otherhand, carotene derived from yeast fermentation and algaepredominantly contain only ONE single isomer - morethan 96% - 98% beta-carotene. The true natural carotenederived from carrots and palm fruits possesses a mixture ofalpha (α)- and beta (β)-carotene.Another interesting fact is that EVTene - natural palmmixed-carotene complex has similar carotene compositionas found in carrots, i.e. 33% α-carotene and 65%β-carotene and 2% of other carotenes (e.g. gammacarotene, lycopene). It is the only true mixed carotenecomplex in the market.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence13

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMMixed-CarotenoidsBoosts Skin’sResistance Against UVBand UVA RadiationA randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studyhas shown that daily supplementation with mixedcarotenoids protects human skin against both UVBinduced erythema and UVA-induced pigmentation. Thestudy which was conducted at the Leibniz ResearchInstitute for Environmental Medicine, Germany, incollaboration with Amway Corporation and published inthe journal of Photodermatology, Photoimmunology &Photomedicine.Sixty volunteers were randomized into 2 groups; (i) mixedcarotenoids supplement containing 4.25 mg β-caroteneand 1.10 mg α-carotene (from EVTene ), 1.12 mg lutein,0.053 mg zeaxanthin, per softgel, or (ii) placebo. Thesupplements were taken three times a day with meal. After 12 weeks of supplementation, the minimal persistentpigmentation dose (MPPD) of each volunteer was assessed(Note: the increase in MPPD reading indicates increasedprotection against UVA-induced skin pigmentation).MPPD was determined by visual grading 20-24 hoursafter irradiation with a Dermalight 80 MPD test and theminimum PPD dose is defined as the smallest UVA doserequired to produce brown pigmentation. It was foundthat daily oral intake of such carotenoids-complex, butnot of placebo, increases UVA-induced MPPD valuesand hence protects human skin against UVA-inducedpigmentation and UVA radiation. This is the first clinicalevidence that oral intake of such carotenoids complex canprotect human skin against UVA radiation.Besides measuring UVA (320-400 nm) radiation, this studyalso measures the photoprotective effect of carotenoidsagainst UVB (290-320 nm) radiation by measuringminimal erythema dose (MED). MED is the minimalamount of energy required to induce visible erythema(redness of the skin), which can be defined asa uniform, clearly demarcated redness at 16-24hours after UV exposure. Significant differenceswere observed between the placebo andintervention group at 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Inthe intervention group – a significant increasewas observed in UVB-induced MED. Thereby, indicating that supplementation with a truebouquet of carotenoids complex protects humanskin against UVB-induced erythema [12].Nourishing Skin with Mixed-CarotenoidsRandomized control trial shows thatdaily supplementation of mixedcarotenoids (containing EVTeneTM)nourishes skin. Increased intakeof carotenoids also promotes skinyellowness and reduces the appearanceof discoloration and wrinkles.Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence14

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMAdditional Benefitsof Mixed-Carotenoids - Dietary or SupplementalHigh consumptionof Mixed-CarotenoidsPromotes Healthy AgeingTelomeres are specialized structures at the end of thechromosomes to protect the loss of human’s geneticdata during cell division. Unfortunately, the length ofthe telomere shortens each time after cell division. Theshortening process is associated with accelerated aging, higher risk of cancer development and death. In the 1999-2002 National Health and NutritionExamination Survey (NHANES), the concentration ofplasma carotenoids (alpha-carotene, beta-carotene (trans cis), beta-cryptoxanthin, combined lutein/zeaxanthinand trans-lycopene) of 3,660 participants aged 20-year-oldand above US adults were measured. DNA samples wereextracted from whole blood and the leukocyte telomerelength (T/S ratio) were determined. From the results, it was found that blood alpha-carotene,beta-carotene (trans cis) and beta-cryptoxanthin weresignificantly associated with 1.76%, 2.22% and 2.02%longer telomeres respectively. Additionally, whencomparing to the lowest carotenoid (alpha-carotene, betacarotene (trans cis) and beta-cryptoxanthin quartiles, the telomere length increased from 5-8% in the highestcarotenoid quartiles.Hence, it is suggestedthat high consumption ofcarotenoid-rich food increasestelomere length [13].CellNucleusTelomoreYour Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence15

Beauty from Within withEVNol SupraBioTM and EVTeneTMMixed-Carotenoidsand Children’s WeightManagementIn a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlledintervention study, 20 children with simple obesity at amean age of 10.5 years are given either 2 tablets of MCS(Mixed Carotenoid Supplement) or Placebo daily for 6months. The supplement consists of 600 µg beta-carotene,500 µg alpha-carotene (derived from EVTene ), 10mg lutein, 2 mg zeaxanthin, 10 mg lycopene, 500 µgastaxanthin and 10 mg gamma-tocopherol per capsule).Physical examinations such as waist circumferencemeasurement, blood tests (ie: serum carotenoids, totaladiponectin, leptin, insulin, triglycerides, high-densitylipoprotein cholesterol) and percentage change in visceraladipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue(SAT) are performed in both MCS and placebo groups atbaseline and after the supplementation periodWhen comparing to placebo group after 6 months of supplementation, MCS group demonstrates reduced BMI(Body Mass Index) z-score, WHtR (waist to height ratio), stable HOMA-2 (homeostatic model assessment ofinsulin resistance-2), elevated level of beta-carotene, total adiponectin and HMW-ADI (high molecular weightadiponectin).Beta-carotene does not only show unique positive associationwith total adiponectin at baseline, but also negative associationwith waist circumference, WHtR, visceral adipose tissue (VAT), andsubcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) among obese children [14].TRUE Mixed-Carotene Complex(high in alpha- and beta-carotene)Your Preferred Partner In Palm Nutraceutical Excellence16
