In fact, Gensler has hostedover 1000 internships in the last decade, developing agrowing network of future designers.6

My internship withGensler allowed meto work directly onprojects that wereactually happening. Gensler’s design of the newTerminal 5 at JFK International Airport isdirectly behind the original Terminal 5 byEero Saarinen, an icon of 20th Centuryaviation architecture.Passenger experience has been carefullyconsidered by the JetBlue/Genslerteam, with signage and wayfindingdesign integrated with the architectureteam from day one to provide ease ofmovement through the terminal.

Compelling.Collaborative.Club Nokia at LA Live!Los Angeles, CA, USAMGM MIRAGE CityCenterLas Vegas, NV, USATo deliver a first-rate concert hall inone of the world’s great music cities,Gensler took the traditional performancetheater model and turned it inside out. Byeliminating the traditional proscenium,the design team created a greatertransparency between production andpatron, making the audience part ofthe show.MGM MIRAGE teamed with Genslerto lead seven worldclass architects,43 interior designers, and over 200consultants to deliver this game-changingproject. As master architect on the 18.6million square feet development, Genslermanaged the entire design process,drawing talent from 12 different officesacross its global network and a coregroup of 50 design professionals at MGMMIRAGE’s CityCenter project office.Club Nokia was designed to cater tothe enduring attraction of concertsand an increasing willingness to pay apremium for events and venues thatprovide a more visceral and transcendentencounter with the entertainer.Additionally, a 40-person LEED teamensured that CityCenter successfullybecame the world’s largest LEEDdevelopment.15

HINTS ANDFAQ’SWill I be stuck doing one type of work, or justpicking up red lines?What software do I need to know?No. The range of opportunities at Gensler and itslearning culture encourages early-career talent toexplore multiple project types and team roles. Newteam members are often staffed across multipleprojects to provide diversity of experience andexposure. Participation in design teams is handson and will range from sketching out design ideasto preparing construction documents and workingdirectly with clients.Gensler believes in an integrated design anddelivery process. Developing a familiarity with Revitwill help you jump in with our design teams acrossthe firm. While a greater level of Revit experiencewill allow you to accomplish design tasks morequickly, you do not need to be a power-user.And Gensler offers regular classes to fine-tuneyour skills or learn a new aspect of our softwareprograms.When applying for a job, can I apply to all Genslerlocations?I’m interested in sustainability. How does thisimpact my potential future with Gensler?While flexibility is helpful, having a compellingreason to join a particular location will set youabove other applicants.
