After joining the University in 1999, shesaw a great need for a department solely dedicated toconference/venue space for out side clients, thus the creation ofthe Conference Sermembers vices Department in 2001. In thisrole, Mrs. James leads a team of five staff in everyday Universityevents and hosts non-university summer camps, conferences andother events. In May 2017, Yourdonus will receive a Master’sdegree in Project Management, coupled with her degree in HotelRestaurant Management from Virginia State University. She has eleven years experience in the graduateadmissions office and is currently the director. Other activitiesinclude international education advisory council, VGRI (VSUgraduate Research Initiative), Staff Senate, and assisting with theundergraduate students of Sigma Gamma Rho Inc. MEET YOUR SENATORSHaving served two terms as acting Financial Director after theformer financial manager retired and current director on shortterm absence, granted the privilege to provide continuity ofservice. During this service, the department’s operation wasconsistent in effectiveness and efficiency. Responding toassignments directly from the Interim Dean with applying myexpertise I was focused on meeting and succeeding all deadlines.I am honored to serve as a point of reference for the AssociateDean and Dean’s office. In addition to my work at VSU, I serve onthe Supervisor Committee at Virginia State University FederalI joined the VSU family on October 2005 serving as Office Credit Union.Manager with Department of Student Activities. Later, in early2009, I decided to change careers by joining the College of I’m a proud alumni of Virginia State University. In June 2015, IAgriculture (COA), Financial Services Department. Within those earned a Master’s of Business Administration with concentrationseven years with COA, I have been integral in providing sound in Information Systems from Strayer University. In addition, I’mand effective financial decisions for the College. I have gained certified as a Virginia Contracting Associate by theexpertise providing leadership in planning conferences, Commonwealth of Virginia-Virginia Institute of Procurement.workshops, and other outreach programs. With my knowledgeServing as a student organization advisor allows me to guide ourof federal, state and grant regulations I have been fortunate toyoung Trojans and carry out Trojan Pride. As a Staff Senator, I’mplay a crucial role in overseeing budgetary and procurementhoping to imbed the same pride through various departments andactivities for the department. MEET YOUR SENATORSMalikha ForbesResidence Coordinator,Residence LifeStaff SenatorBefore returning to VSU, Ms. Forbes acted as a CollegePlacement Advisor of the Educational Talent Search Trio Programat Essex County College in New Jersey where she providedguidance and advised individuals on how to fulfill their high schoolrequirements and pursue post-secondary education.Ms. Forbes believes that, “Each one teaches one.” She lives bythis strategy in sharing her knowledge with those whom sheadvises and mentors. Her community based service includesgiving a helping hand to families in need with sponsorship of TheDepartment of Residence Life Annual Toy Drive, ProfessionalMalikha Nicole Forbes is a 2001 Virginia State University Clothing Drives for women in Domestic Violence Shelters andgraduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public hosted school supply drives for children who parents areAdministration.
