CASE STUDY:OncologyJen Koblinski, PhDAssistant Professor of PathologyMassey Cancer Center, VirginiaCommonwealth UniversityDr. Koblinski has had a long interest in therelationship between tumor cells and theirspecific microenvironments during themetastatic cascade, with a specific interest inthe brain. Her research focuses on elucidatingthe role of syndecans, heparan sulfateproteoglycans, in facilitating breast cancermetastasis to the brain. With the IVIS Spectrumimaging system, Dr. Koblinski is able to trackand quantify brain metastases in vivo and exvivo, gaining insights into the mechanisms thatfacilitate breast cancer brain metastasis.NEXT »HomeReagentsSystemsSoftwareService & SupportCase StudiesINTERACTIVE PRODUCT SELECTOR »

CASE STUDY:Alzheimer’s DiseaseChongzhao Ran, PhDAssistant Professor of RadiologyMartinos Imaging Center, MassachusettsGeneral Hospital, Harvard Medical SchoolDr. Ran’s research has been focused ondeveloping probes for systemic molecularimaging of Alzheimer’s disease. In the past years,Dr. Ran’s group has invented curcumin-basedfluorescence probe library, CRANAD-X, for imagingvarious amyloid beta (Aß) species and oxidativestress (H2O2 and ROS). With the IVIS Spectrumimaging system, Dr. Ran’s group demonstratedthat NIRF brain imaging with CRANAD-X could beused to detect soluble and insoluble Aßs of ADmouse models. Recently his group showed thatNIRF ocular imaging (NIRFOI) could detect andmonitor Aßs in the eyes of AD mice. NIRFOI hasthe potential for clinical applications in the future.« PREVIOUSHomeReagentsSystemsSoftwareService & SupportCase StudiesNEXT »INTERACTIVE PRODUCT SELECTOR »

For Dr. Müller’s group, the G8 PET/CT has proven to be particularlyeffective for the evaluation of novel in-houseproduced radiotracers, which are initially onlyavailable in small quantities. The fact thatthe scanner is small and mobile has allowedher group to transport it to other facilities, enabling them to recently use the G8 PET/CT for imaging in vivo 11C production afterproton irradiation of tumor xenografts in mice. All PET /CT images courtesy of Dr. Cristina Müller, Center for Radiopharmaceutical Sciences (ETH/PSI),Zurich, Switzerland, used with permission.« PREVIOUSHomeReagentsSystemsSoftwareService & SupportCase StudiesNEXT »INTERACTIVE PRODUCT SELECTOR »

His focus is onusing complementary multimodality imagingapproaches on genetically engineered mousemodels (GEMMs) of lung cancer in order tofunctionally map key metabolic events thatshape tumorigenesis. His approach combines 3Dbioluminescent imaging using the IVIS Spectrumwith positron emission tomography (PET) imagingusing the G8 PET/CT scanner. By coupling the useof caged luciferins with 18F-labeled radiotracers,Dr. Shackelford has begun to non-invasivelyprofile key metabolic events that dictate how lungtumors form and evolve from early to advancedstages of the disease.« PREVIOUSCase StudiesINTERACTIVE PRODUCT SELECTOR »
