CONTAIN AND CONTROL THE SPILL! Usewhatever means is available to stop theleak and prevent further spread of oil, including hydraulic fluid.

Take all precaution to prevent oil from entering stormdrains, streams, ponds and other water sources.Report Spill to Spill Coordinator. Text photos of spillsite to Spill Coordinator.Evaluate if an Oil SpillCleanup Contractor isrequired.Secure the area.Barricade spill site,if necessary.

Emergency Oil Spill Response Expedite Oil Spill ResponseMaterials to site. (Absorbentpads, booms, oil dry, etc.) Evaluate the potential impactto public safety, (oil onroadway, electrical hazards) Take control of the situation! No unauthorized personsallowed in work area!

Check equipment NAMEPLATEfor “Non-PCB”:Disregard most Non-PCB labels or stickers! Electrical equipment may have been tested for PCBcontent. (Typically only substation equipment andvoltage regulators for most Electric Cooperatives) If PCB content is unknown, must assume oil spill tocontain at least 50 ppm PCB, (PCB-contaminatedclassification)If spill is “large” or complex, try to send oil sample to lab for test.

Non-PCB Oil, Hydraulic Oil,Motor Oil Spill Cleanup Common sense approach, cleanup as soonas practical. Excavate only contaminated area. Soak oil with absorbent booms, pads, oildry, etc .

Can place solid wastein drums, lined traileror dump bed. Can back-fill excavatedarea with clean soilafter cleanup. No soiltests are required.

Ensure site is restored tooriginal condition. Solids materials may go toan approved KansasSubtitle “D” landfill afterapproval process. No liquids are permitted inlandfills.

Proper Containment and Transport Place non-intactequipment in transformersack, large plastic tarp orcontainment pan prior totransport. Properly secureequipment andcontainers on truck.Remove off truck as soonas possible!

Complete SpecialWaste DisposalRequest Form forproposed landfill.KDHE will grantdisposalauthorization, ifapproved.HazardousWaste Manifest isnot required.Marking is notrequired fortransport vehicle.
