JOHNALYN M. GORDONjohnalyn@uky.eduORCID ID: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4495-0684Research Interests:My research interests are shaped by the threats urban pests pose to human health, peace of mind, and overall quality of life. In cases where pest pressure is immense, risk can be severe, and it isessential that urban pests be quickly and efficiently eradicated from homes. Rapid and effectivepest management requires both a complete knowledge of the pest species, along with novelintegrated approaches to pest management. I am especially interested in applying understandingof pest biology and behavior to challenges of insecticide resistance and pest managementstrategies in low-income housing, as well as applying knowledge of risk factors associated withhuman health impacts to the development of targeted mitigation strategies to ensure risk tohumans is being effectively diminished.I am passionate about improving human health by solving indoor pest problems. My futureresearch goals are to apply the knowledge and skills I develop to improving urban pestmanagement through a career in which I can use research to improve pest management andmitigate pest-associated health risks, with specific attention paid to disadvantaged communities. My current research activities include: Quantification of bed bug histamine within the indoor environment Determination of the relative proportions and persistence of 3 cockroach allergensEducation:In Progress. Explored efficacy of fatty acid saltsolutions of varying concentrations to fatty acid solutions with added essentialoils.
