“Dancing Feather” Boston PilotSchooner 1853The Dancing Feather was designed by Dennison J.Lawlor and built in East Boston at the Winde &Clinkard shipyard in 1853. She was designed with aclipper style bow that was popular with the“sharpshooter” class fishing schooners and rakedmast, reminiscent of the famed Baltimore Clippers. She worked in the competitive Boston Pilot trade forseveral years and eventually was sailed to Californiawhere she was engaged in the pilot and salvagetrade.Complete Kit:Scale:Hull Length: 180.003/16” 1’12 3/4”Plans: 37.00Overall Length:Availableseparately:Instruction Book:20 1/2” 16.95“John McKeon” New York PilotSchooner 1838Complete Kit:The John McKeon was built on Long Island, NewYork by Isaac Webb in 1838.She was one of thelarger pilot vessels built by the Isaac Webb ship yardwith an overall length of 78’ and a beam of 20’ 7”. Dueto the competitive nature of piloting, boats had toventure further and further out to sea in order toobtain work. These boats needed to be simplistic andeasy to handle since the head boat handler was theonly man left on board after she was “manned out”and returned to the harbor. The John McKeon had ashort and tragic life, going down with all hands duringa hurricane in July 1839. 170.00Available separately:Plans: 30.00Instruction Book: 16.95Scale:Hull Length:Overall Length:1/8” 1’9 1/2”12 1/2”Sailmaking KitA J Fisher3 24.951-978-462-4555

“Miss Lou” Biloxi Schooner 1919During the period from 1870 to 1930, the shipyardsof Biloxi, Mississippi produced over 253 sailingschooners for fishing and the freight industry. TheMiss Lou represents the apex of traditional flatbottom centerboard Biloxi style schooners of theGulf Coast. She was built by the famed boatyard ofAnson Hoiley in 1930. She measured 70’ long andweighed 42 tons and carried Hoiley’s famousclipper bow and curved transom. The Miss Loustory came to an official end when she was brokenup in 1971.Complete Kit:Scale:1/4” 1’Hull Length:16”Overall Length: 26” 215.00Available separately:Plan: 40.00Instruction Book: 16.95Sailmaking Kit 24.95“Lark” Baltimore Clipper 1812The Baltimore Clipper traces it’s roots as far back asthe 1730’s. These sharp, fast and weatherly vesselsreached their zenith in design around 1810. Sosuccessful was the design that a single class wasdeclared for this naval model and from 1813 to 1854most naval sloops, brigs and schooners weredesigned with the Baltimore Clipper in mind. WilliamDoherty a leading naval designer from 1812-1837 isconsidered the father of the Baltimore Clipper Model. This model of the Lark is a typical Clipper/Privateer ofher time, carrying a battery of six-6 pounders and one12 pounder.Scale:1/8” 1’CompleteKit:Available separately:Plans: 40.00Instruction Book: 16.95A J FisherSailmaking Kit4 24.95

“Challenge”Great Lakes Schooner 1852Before the present day 600 ft. bulk freighters allshipping was carried on schooners. The firstdistinctive lake schooners were the shoal draft, centerboard, “clipper” type vessels introduced byWilliam Bates, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1851-52.While on the stocks, the Challenge raised manyquestions from other local builders, but after herlaunch she proved to be one of the great successstories, so much so that larger versions wereintroduced such as the “Clipper City” and the“Montowoc.” For many years the two masted clipperschooner monopolized the lakes trade until they grewso large it was necessary to rig them with three orfour masts.Complete Kit: 170.00Scale:Hull Length:Overall Length:Available separately:Plans: 35.00Instruction Book: 16.951/8” 1’11 ½”16 ½”Sailmaking Kit 24.95“Lucia A. In Mayof 1929 she was disabled in a squall off Algoma andthen towed to Sturgeon Bay for repairs. On Dec. 3,1935, a fire swept the "graveyard of ships" of theSturgeon Bay Ship Building Company and destroyedher. In the 1870’s there were from 1700 to 1800 of theseLake Schooners of various sizes engaged in the laketrade, carrying coal, ore, grain and general cargo. They were a type built solely for the lake trade;practically all of them had centerboards. 325.00Available separately:Plans: 55.00Instruction Book: 24.95Scale:Hull Length:Overall Length:3/16” 1’25”36”Sailmaking KitA J Fisher5 49.951-978-462-4555

She was launched on July 4 th 1813 by atechnique called kedging, using her anchor to pull heronto a sandbar that protected the bay where she wasbuilt. During the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813,Commodore, Oliver Hazard Perry was forced to movefrom the Lawrence to the Niagara making her hisflagship. On the Niagara he secured victory over theBritish which ensured American control of the Greatlakes during the War of 1812. In poor condition, theNavy allowed her to sink in 1820. In April of 1913, theNiagara was raised from Misery Bay and wentComplete Kit:through several restorations. She is one of tworemaining vessels that served in the War of 1812. 255.00Scale:Hull Length:Overall Length:Available separately: 55.00Plans:Instruction Book: 18.951/8” 1’14 ¼”20”Sailmaking Kit 39.95“Champion” Great Lakes Tug of 1868Complete Kit:Available separately:Plans:Instruction Book:A J FisherThe Champion was said to be the largest tug everbuilt for fresh waters in 1868. Built by Campbell andOwen of Detroit, she possessed very comfortableaccommodations for officers, much better than hadbeen seen in the past. The Champion is known tohave drawn eight schooners heavily loaded withwheat in a record tow of 1881. She met her demiseon September 15 th , 1903 as she burned to thewater’s edge. At this time she was owned by H. W.Baker of Detroit. She was towed to a reef nearGibraltar by the little steamer IAN, where she sank inabout 10 feet of water.A year later much of her fittings and machinery wereremoved. But her hull was seen as a total loss andnot considered worthy of repair. 240.00Scale:Hull Length:Overall Length: 30.00 18.9561/8” 1’18”18”1-978-462-4555

She was one of the mostpowerful tugs of the time. The tug is 110 feet long, 23feet across the beam and draws 15.5 feet of water. She was named after the daughter of then presidentof the railroad Jacob Greatsinger. She operated outof Two Harbors all her life, except for two years1917-1919, during WWI when the governmentrequisitioned her to move barges and troop ships outon the east coast. In 1974 the Edna G. was placed on the NationalHistoric Register. The re-fitting of the great lakesfreighters with bow thrusters and variable pitchpropellers eliminated the need for tugboats in theharbors. 240.00Scale:Hull Length:Overall Length:Available separately:Plans 30.00Instruction 16.96A J Fisher71/8” 1’13”13”1-978-462-4555
