A new campus forthe Cradle CoastOne of the most exciting things about thenew Cradle Coast Campus at West Park is thefact that it’s been built for the community. It all started with a clear understanding ofwhat the people of North West Tasmaniawere looking for in a university. This gives usthe chance to have inviting, accessible andfriendly spaces that draw people together toengage with learning in a meaningful way.As a result, our new campus is distinctive tothis part of the world.Outside, the building reflects the risingescarpments that mark the coastline. Thegreen roof maps the fields you pass drivingacross the land. Inside, it embraces the sea, with beautifully framed views of the Bass Strait. The courtyard treats the dynamic climate as anasset not an obstacle. A space where you canboth experience the weather, but also retreatfrom it.It also responds to a unique history. There is asense of the industrial quality and heritage ofthe architecture that’s so important to this partof our island. This is a building that representsa pivot point between honouring where we’vecome from and creating excitement aboutwhere we’re going. We want to celebrate the knowledge and skillsof our local community. This new campusprovides access to more of our courses andprograms. But it also delivers learning thatmeets the distinct needs of this region.By placing higher education in the heart of thecommunity, and on the edge of Burnie’s CBD,it will become naturally entwined with ourdaily lives.C R ADL E COAST COU R S E G U I DE 202 24
