THE SCHOOL CRESTThe school crest strongly reflects the French heritage and core values of the Sisters ofSt Louis, our founding congregation. The congregation was founded in the aftermathof the French revolution,a time of deep civil division and mis-trust in Europe. Thefounders looked to Saint Louis, a famously devout Catholic King of France from 12261270. The blue colour is the French blue of St Louis. The red hand of ulster and thetower of the town of Monaghan represents the first sisters who travelled from Paris toMonaghan in the 19th Century and who were later invited to open a similar school forgirls in Dundalk. The Fleur-de-Lys is another strong symbol of France while the swordand crown of thorns represent the crucifixion of Christ and later crusades by St Louis. The Latin motto “Ut Sint Unum” means “That they may be one” a vision of hope foran end to division. While ,the old French motto “Dieu le Veult” is a prayer that Godwill hear the prayer for peace and understanding and make it happen,if he wills it. These traditional beliefs and aspirations still have an inherent valuein a very divided modern world.ST.
