State of Florida online course requirementThe State of Florida requires one online course to meet graduation requirements. Students at Tech High takePinellas Virtual School courses and Florida Virtual School courses in our computer lab.Richard O. Jacobson Technical High School at Seminole magnet requirementStudents are expected to take their academic courses in our school environment. See paragraph below regardingprogram courses (*).From the PCSB District Application Policy Manual:FULL-TIME ENROLLMENTStudents attending a District Application Program must be enrolled full-time in that school. Since theapplication program is the student’s school of assignment, the student is not permitted to participate inthe school functions and activities at any other school. Students attending Jacobson Technical HighSchool at Seminole may participate at their zoned high school for athletics. Students in DistrictApplication Programs may participate in extracurricular activities at their zoned school provided theextracurricular activity does not exist at the District Application Program school of assignment.District Application Programs courses are not available to traditional (host school) students except underspecial circumstances. This policy assists the district in maintaining the integrity and uniqueness of eachindividual magnet. (*) In order to maintain the integrity of the approved program curriculum and toensure program completion, there shall be no substitutions, including dual credit, correspondence oronline courses, for specific program courses.ATTENDANCEAttendance is extremely important in all educational settings. The integrity of the District ApplicationPrograms curriculum requires that students be present so as not to experience a lapse in skilldevelopment or in academic preparation for highest student achievement. All students are expected toattend school from the first day of school. Vacancies (openings) created by students who fail to attendduring the first three days of the school year may be offered to the next student(s) on the wait lists. Inaddition, families are strongly discouraged from taking planned vacations while classes are in sessionduring the school year.Families are encouraged to get their child to school on time. Chronic tardiness can cause students toexperience a lapse in skill development or in academic preparation for highest student achievement.Other requirements and optionsStudents wishing to enter a state university as a freshman must satisfy a level 2 proficiency of a foreign language, with all 4 math credits, one of which must include Algebra 2.Under certain circumstances, credit may be earned by attending the extended learning program, adult eveninghigh school, the St. Petersburg College dual credit program, Pinellas Virtual School or Florida Virtual School.Students must make arrangements with their high school principal (or designee) prior to enrolling in such coursesin order for credit to be earned in this manner.

Course Requests & Schedule CorrectionsStudents register for classes each spring for the upcoming school year, including all required courses, electives, and alternateelectives in case the elective of choice is not available. Due to the fact that our school’s master schedule is built based uponstudent requests during the registration process, schedule changes are limited. It is extremely important that studentsdiscuss the registration process with their parents and choose their courses wisely and with care. If students need to makeany changes after submitting their course selections, they may make those changes by contacting the guidance office nolater than the last day of the school year. After this date, changes will only be made for one of the following reasons:1. Computer error2. Lack of prerequisite credit3. Requirement for graduation, college admission or scholarship4. Credit in the course has already been obtainedFlorida Bright Futures Scholarship ProgramThis program offers The Florida Academic, the Florida Medallion, and the Gold Seal scholarships. Refer to theweb site below for related criteria w ww . fl o ri d as t u d en tf in an c i al aid. o r g.The PSATThe Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a valuable tool for students.Pinellas County Schools pays for all 9th and 10th grade students to take the PSAT to evaluate the skills that eachstudent has developed in critical reading, mathematics and writing based on nationally normed data. The PSAT is an effective way for students to start getting ready for the SAT and provides personalized feedbackabout their academic strengths and weaknesses, which leads to stronger preparation for life beyond high schooland greater success in college and careers. In addition to providing this test free of charge to all 9th and 10th grade students, we strongly encourage 11th gradestudents to pay the small fee to take the PSAT. This is the final opportunity to take the PSAT and it is the only yearthat the PSAT results are considered to qualify a student to be recognized as a National Merit Scholar, HispanicScholar, or Achievement Scholar. These three recognitions all award significant scholarships for eligible studentswho meet the criteria and complete the requirements.
