The hospital doors officiallyopened to patients and familieson February 21, 1925, and wasoriginally built to provide pediatricorthopaedic specialty care tochildren stricken with polio.To this day, the Springfield Shriners Hospital remains the onlyfreestanding specialty children’s hospital in Massachusetts locatedoutside of Boston. message from the potentateGreetings Nobles, Ladies, Family and friends,My lady Mary Jo and I are very excited about the remainder of theyear. We have planned some favorite events from the past yearsand some new ones. We would like to take a moment and thankeveryone who attended the Installation Banquet in January. This wastruly a memorable event for us. I would like to take this moment andexplain the slogan to those who were unable to attend. “Use yourTools”. Of course, all Masons understand the masonic tools and inkeeping with our masonic foundation these will keep harmony in ourhearts and in our temple. I am always amazed by the various skillsof our members and how they use these skills (tools) to make Ziyaraa great home for all of us. Secondly the Potentate’s pin this year isa rendition of the Armstrong family crest. The Latin phrase “InvictusManeo” meaning unvanquished or unconquered. The more I thoughtabout this phrase, the more I believe it fits our Ziyara temple. Wewill conquer all obstacles and remain unvanquished this year and in years to come with the help fromyou, the nobility.I am eager to enjoy everyone’s fellowship and yes sometimes hard work making the upcoming eventslike the Lenten Fish Fries and the roll out of this year’s Sportsman’s Raffle a great success. I havealways felt that when “working” with friends it never seems like work, just having fun together.The first cocktail party of the season on Valentine’s Day was by all accounts a very fun night. Thirtyeight members and friends attended. Unfortunately, I was a no show due to being “locked up” at work.My Lady Jo and the ladies stepped up to make this a successful event. Please consider joining us forour next cocktail event at the Shrine Park Center called “Cocktails at the Track” on May 2nd duringthe Kentucky Derby. Watch for more details in the coming months.The most important priority for Ziyara, only second to helping our kids is to grow membership. I haveappointed our Marshal Dan Rena as our Membership Chairman, for what I hope will be at least athree-year commitment. I am already impressed with his enthusiasm and ideas. He will be appointinga retention, restoration and recruitment team. If you feel you have the “tools” to help in this importantendeavor, please don’t hesitate to step up and be a part of Dan’s team. Each of us should be activelyrecruiting good men to be an active part of our Ziyara temple.I have scheduled three upcoming Saturday mornings 3/21, 3/28, and 4/4, from 9am-1pm to clean andorganize the Park Center. The garage and storage areas have become unorganized and a catchall for unused and unneeded items. The items that are unusable and only exist to take up valuablespace will be removed. This may mean selling or discarding of items. No large items of value will bediscarded without discussion with the nobility. Nobles let’s be honest, if we haven’t used it in in 5-10years it is probably time to let it go. Once the areas are organized, I will schedule a meeting or “forum”to discuss any possible improvements to the park center. This will be the first of many meetings toput a comprehensive long-range plan for the park center into action.
