Speaker BiosJulie Lanford MPH, RD, CSO, LDNJulie is the Wellness Director for Cancer Services. She is a registereddietitian, licensed nutritionist and board certified specialist in oncologynutrition with over 13 years’ experience working in oncology. Lanfordreceived a B.S. in Biology from North Carolina State University and amaster’s degree in public health nutrition from The University of NorthCarolina at Chapel Hill.In 2007, Lanford developed www.CancerDietitian.com a healthy livingweb site for Cancer Services that translates evidence based nutritionguidelines into consumer friendly messages for everyday life. The sitereaches thousands of people across the country who are interested incancer nutrition and the most current topics on healthy lifestyle in ourculture.Her passion is wellness for cancer prevention and survivorship, and shespecializes in making healthy living fun! Lanford enjoys life away fromwork when she is traveling with her personal “circus,” a husband,bi-lingual 2nd grader, a toddler, and a geriatric (and lively!) goldenretriever.Lindy MilliganLindy is the Survivorship Coordinator for Cancer Services. She beganworking with Cancer Services as a volunteer after her own battle withbreast cancer, 10 years ago. She said once she finished her activetreatment, she wanted to “give back” in a way that would help andinspire others. After volunteers for about 6 months, she was hired as aPatient Advocate. After about 5 years, Lindy moved into the newlycreated role of Survivorship Coordinator, where she creates programs,connects with our survivors and encourages survivors to live their bestlives.Prior to Cancer Services, Lindy worked in Marketing for USAirways/Piedmont Airlines and Wachovia. She has a wonderful husband whowas her high school sweetheart, four children, and a beloved familyrescue dog. Spending time with family, traveling, exercising, scubadiving and hiking are among her favorite ways to enjoy life.

Speaker BiosDr. Patty ZekanDr. Zekan is a Medical Oncologist at Novant Health Cancer Institute andhas a particular focus in Breast Cancer. She has been practicingmedicine for over 30 years. She comes from a large medical familywhere 5 out of her 7 siblings became doctors. She earned her medicaldegree from West Virginia University and came to North Carolina tocontinue her training at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where shecompleted her Fellowship in Medical Oncology. She is very active incancer-related programs in the community and currently serves on theCancer Services Board of Directors. She has only missed one“Pink Ribbon Talks” out of 19 and we always look forward to hersharing her knowledge and time with us.Judy Angela Tjoe, MD, FACSDr. Tjoe is a board-certified oncology breast surgeon, as well as certifiedin breast ultrasound. She recently joined Novant Health Cancer Instituteas Medical Director of the Breast Surgery Program in the GreaterWinston-Salem Market. She completed her medical school and surgicalbreast oncology fellowship training at the University of California, SanFrancisco, the latter in 2001. She was Clinical Adjunct Professor withthe Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School ofMedicine and Public Health and Clinical Adjunct Associate Professorwith the Exercise Science Program in the Physical Therapy Departmentat Marquette University. She currently sees patients at the Novant HealthGreensboro Breast Surgery Clinic with admitting privileges at NovantHealth Kernersville Medical Center. Her research interests involvedpredictive biomarkers, as well as understanding the physiological andpsychological impact of exercise on the cancer survivor. On a nationallevel, she is involved with the ECOG-ACRIN Breast Committee and isalso a member of the Alliance Breast Committee.

Speaker BiosDr. Stacy WentworthDr. Wentworth is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology whojoined the faculty at the Wake Forest School of Medicine several yearsago. She is board certified in Radiation Oncology, completing herresidency at Wake Forest in 2009. Dr. Wentworth is also the MedicalDirector of the Wake Health Cancer Survivorship Program. Her interestsinclude the role of radiation in the treatment of breast cancer and allthings related to cancer survivorship.Sara Bridges, LCSWSara has worked in the healthcare field for 20 years by supportingpatients and their families through difficult times. As a Licensed ClinicalSocial Worker she has experience in Hospice care, Palliative medicine,family practice and oncology. Most recently Sara has joined the NovantHealth Cancer Institute as the oncology counselor and she is superexcited! Through her years of supporting others, she has developed aspecial interest in having difficult conversations, mindfulness andpatient stories.Melissa MooreMelissa is the Cancer Fit Coordinator at Wake Forest Baptist Health inHigh Point and has been there for 8 years. She has her degree inExercise Physiology, a Clinical Exercise Physiology Certificationthrough the American College of Sports Medicine and is certified as aCancer Exercise Trainer. Melissa has a passion for working with cancersurvivors and helping to reduce their fatigue levels throughexercise – encouraging healthy and active living.

The program offers survivors emotional and peer support fromtrained breast cancer survivors. They receive a kit of information, a pinkpillow, and a pink broomstick. The pink broomstick exercises can befound at pinkbroomstick.org and are used to help in rehabilitationfollowing surgery.The Pink Broomstick Support Program also offers a monthly wellnessgroup that meets (currently via Zoom video conference) the 3rd Thursdayat 12 noon. The Pink Broomstick Wellness Group allows survivors toshare experiences and gaininsightful knowledge from professionals. Wellness Groups give you theopportunity to meet other people dealing with similar situations and offerways of coping with your illness. Sharing is informal and the support isstrengthening. Please join us!
