Brownies: Meet My CustomersSign In/IntroductionHello!(5 min) Hi my name is .Today you are going to learn how to talk to your customers about Girl Scout cookies and have fun roleplaying while you earn your Meet My Customers badge. Do you know what a customer is? Do youknow what a seller is?Find out where your customers areStep1(Materials needed: butcher paper, Find Out Where Your Customers are worksheet, marker,pencils)(15 min) Pass out worksheet and pencils, ask the girls who they think will want to buy Girl Scoutcookies; who should they ask? Grandparents, neighbors, teachers, etc Write down the girlsresponses on butcher paper for all the girls to see. On the worksheet girls will take what they havebrainstormed as a group to create their own list of potential customers.Teaching Tips: Call on quiet raised hands, call on helpers to pass out the paper and pencilsTalk to some customers(Materials needed: Talk To Some Customers worksheet, cookie menu, pencils)Step2Now that they have a list of customers, the girls need to know how to talk to them about what they areselling? What are the different kind of cookies, what do they cost, what are you doing with the money?(15 min) Have helpers pass out cookie menu. In a group go over each Girl Scout cookie.(use cookie boxprops or pictures). Ask the girls if they know any facts about the cookies. Teach them some facts fromthe cookie fact sheet.(15 min) Next, pass out the worksheet and go over each question with the girls and help them fill outtheir worksheet.Teaching Tips: Some girls will finish faster than others, have girls that finish their worksheet first, goand help other girls.girlscoutshcc.org/cookies 800-322-4475

Snack time (10 min)Practice handling money and making changeStep3(Materials Needed: Play money, scissors, zip lock bags)(15-20 min) Pass out sheet of play money. Have girls cut out their money and put it in a zip lock bag.Ask girls how many boxes of cookies can they buy with 5, 10? How many boxes could they buy ifthey used all of their play money?Teaching Tips: If some of the girls don’t finish cutting out their money, they can fold it up and put it in theirbag to cut later. Remind girls to clean up after themselves. Show them the proper way to carry scissors.Role Play Good Customer Relations(Materials Needed: Cookie Box props, play money, finished worksheets)Step4(5 min) As a group, go over the steps taken so far. Who are your customers? What do your customerswant to know? How do you talk to them? If a customer asked for your advice on what cookie to buy,what would you say and why?(25 min) Split girls into groups of 2 or 3, its time to role play buying and selling cookies! Each group willget boxes of cookies to use as props to sell to each other, and they will use their play money. Remindthe girls to refer to the worksheets they have been working on to practice role playing. Example: Ifthey want to sell cookies to a grandparent, then one of them can pretend to be the grandma, whilethe other girl tries to sell her cookies, asking questions a grandma might ask. Remind the girls to taketurns being the buyer and the seller.Teaching Tips: If you have a group of girls that are shy, try partnering them up with girls that are notStep5Thank your Customers!(Materials needed: Thank you card template, scissors, crayons)(20-30 min) What do you say to a customer every time, even if they don’t buy cookies? We sayTHANK YOU! Have girls decorate their own set of thank you cards to pass out to their customers. Passout Thank you card template, have girls decorate and cut out cards. Cut out cards can be placed in thesame zip lock as the play money.Teaching Tips: If the girls run out of time to cut out their cards, that’s ok.
