‘The Leader Who Had No Title’A brief overview of Robin Sharma’srecent bookBy: VPSeoul, South KoreaPowerpointTemplatesSep 2010Page 1

It is a book that focuses on achieving successand happiness at work. It is a very interestingperspective with quite a few uplifting sectionswhich are very inspiring. As one reads it, onecan’t help feeling sometimes that the book is abit utopian in concept with a disconnect fromharsh realities of workplace. But on the wholeyou can’t deny that it is invigorating, exhilarating and elevating.Note:With so many lovely quotes, I just could not reduce thenumber of slides. But since these are only quotes andno big write ups, I sincerely hope you can easily glancethrough the whole lot and do not mind the number ofPowerpoint Templatesslides.Page 2

I liked the way Robin Sharma starts hisbook with the following quotation .‘In a gentle way you can shake theworld’–MahatmaGandhiPowerpoint TemplatesPage 3

It is in an imperious manner that he titlesthe very first chapter of his book .‘Leadership and Success are yourbirth right’ and he goes ahead making a great impact withhis very first two sentences .‘Each of us is born into genius. Butsadly most of us die amid mediocrity’Powerpoint TemplatesPage 4

The first couple of chapters seem tobe like a preamble leading upto hismain four themes that start in thefourth chapter. Further he uses thefirst three chapters to build up thefable.A few lovely quotes from his firstthree chapters in the followingslides Powerpoint TemplatesPage 5

‘ the best that you can do is all that youcan do. Once you have done that, go homeand have a good night’s sleep’‘Relentless learning is one of the maintraits ofan openand powerful person’PowerpointTemplatesPage 6

‘Hard times do make better people’‘Each of us is built to win – in bothworkand life’PowerpointTemplatesPage 7

‘There is only one way a business willwin in the new world we are in .’‘ . Growing and developing theleadership talent of every personthroughout the organisation fasterPowerpoint Templatesthantheir competition.’ Page 8

In case you wonder whether Robin Sharma issuggesting doing away with titles in anorganisation, very quickly he points out .‘I am not at all saying an organisation should not have titles. They should actually. We need the people on the executiveteam setting the vision, steering the boat and holdingultimate responsibility for the results. Titles and Structuremaintain order and keep everything running smoothly. But . for any organisation to thrive amid all the turbulance .each one of us needs to take personal responsibility bybecoming CEO of our own roles and leaders within ourcurrent positions.’‘We all need to lead where we are plantedand shinewherewe now find ourselves.’PowerpointTemplatesPage 9

‘We all have natural power to lead that hasnothing to do with a big title’‘Leadership is a lot more about howbrilliantly you work and how masterfullyPowerpointyouTemplatesbehave’Page 10

‘Just think of Roosevelt or Mandela, Edisonor Einstein. They were not driven by money. They were driven by the challenge. By thechance to push the envelope. By the desire todo something uncommonly great. And that isthe Powerpointdrive thatmade them legends’TemplatesPage 12

I found the following words from the book veryinteresting. It makes one of the best forms ofdifferentiation between “being content” and “beingsatisfied” .‘One of the main aims of the journey you areon is to improve. It is fine to be content butnever be satisfied. So improve everything.Improve it all daily, relentlessly andPowerpoint Templatespassionately’Page 15

‘Potential unrealized turns into pain’‘True human heartbreak is reaching your finalmoments and realizing that you wasted themost important gift that was given to you –the chance to present your magnificence toPowerpoint Templatesthe world around’Page 16
