The Olde Rod & GunnerJuly 2018A Monthly Newsletter Published For Our Members South Bay Rod & Gun Club, Inc.VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT www.sbrgc.orgA Message from the SBRGC PresidentLegislation: Couple of new bills that are in the works that you need to look at:AB 2382 – Firearm precursor parts. This is to restrict specific parts for firearms so that you are required to go to a dealer for a backgroundcheck before you can purchase. Precursor means a component of a firearm that is generally necessary to build or assemble a firearm.(Barrel, Magazine, Speed Loader, Receiver, Finished AR style upper, unfinished hand gun frame, slide for a handgun, or trigger pack) Thiswill impact any person who wants to change a barrel or do some upgrades to their firearms. With firearms and ammunition coming to dealers now, this will make all parts being shipped to the dealers and not to individuals.SB 1100 – This bill will raise the age to own long guns from 18 to 21 years of age and limit your purchases to one gun in a 30-day period.(Current law restricts you to one dealer sale of a hand gun in a 30-day period and there are no restrictions on long guns or hand guns from anin-state private party sale.) End result is you would have to be 21 and you could only acquire one gun in a 30day period.Range Usage: I see a lot of members using the club’s ranges for various firearm related activities, but the question that comes up is, howeffective are their marksmanship skills? Are they the type that just want to shoot as many rounds as quickly as possible and don’t care abouttheir group size? Are they happy when they can concentrate all their shots in a small area on the target or are they happy when they canshoot a small group while doing something specific?SBRGC offers various matches to test your skills. Conventional Pistol uses only one hand shooting at 25 & 50 yards; Cowboy Action usesfirearms from the late 1800’s along with appropriate dress for the period; High Power Rifle uses service firearms in the four positions(standing, rapid sitting, rapid prone & slow prone); Palma/F-Class shoot laying down at targets at 300 yards’ Schuetzen shoots with singleshot firearms that you load individually and shoot on special targets; Small Bore Silhouette and Long Range Pistol/Cowboy Silhouette shootsilhouettes at various distances; Muzzleloaders shoot using black powder firearms and the ARC match uses modern firearms (rifle & handguns) shooting at various targets in various positions. Each one of these matches are tailored for specific types of firearms, conditions andpositions, but they test your skills in those events and challenge you to increase your skills. These matches are scheduled on various weekends and you as a member, need to watch the schedule to determine which days the matchesare running. This way you know when to show up to watch the match, participate in the match, avoid the match or when to come out to dogeneral shooting at a specific distance or specific range. These matches will cause a range to be closed to general shooters for variousreasons from special targets, special firearms, special programs they must follow and most matches are a very structured event that does notallow open shooting. Some matches will accommodate open shooting, but that is not the norm. So PLEASE be sure to check the schedulebefore you come out.WORK PARTYYou are all invited to attend the WORK PARTY on July 7 2018. JULY 2018THE OLDE ROD & GUNNER4SCHUETZENGUILDEThe San Diego Schuetzenguilde held its annual Benchrest Championship match on the 27th of May,2018 with eleven shooters competing under challenging conditions – nasty, switching winds with strongvelocity changes and the wind flags going in one direction with the mirage running in the other.Shooting very consistently and holding the Club Trophy for the next year was Mr. Russ Hooks. Goodshooting Russ! Our match in July, on the 22nd, will be for .22RF rifles. All club members and guests are invited andmay shoot any kind of .22RF rifle of their choice. It need not be a single shot rifle for this match. We’llshoot 50 shots from the bench and then 50 shots offhand, all at 100 yards with any sights. Fee is only 10 and we have a lot of fun. JULY 2018THE OLDE ROD & GUNNER11It was good to see Gary Atkinson shoo ng with us again. However, tempered with that nicereunion was the sad news that Gary will be moving out of State this Summer. Lee Davis alsohad announced the he will relocate soon. We started a li le tradi on when Tom Byrne relocat‐ed to Idaho. Remember the company Buck Knife was here in town and moved off to Idaho? Itseemed appropriate to give Tom a Buck Knife as a way to remember the Palma guys. WhenGreg Taylor le for Nebraska we gave him a Buck Knife too.
