What do you dowhen you have a24-hour productionschedule, withworkforce availabilitybeing largely restrictedto the day shift?In The Know: P&G HyderabadHyderabad is the capital and largest city of the southernIndian state of Andhra Pradesh, with a population ofmore than 3.7 million.P&G’s Hyderabad Plant is a multi-business-unit hub,led by Fabric & Home Care.Beginning in 2014, the 172-acre site will be the firstmega-site in Asia, with production for Fabric & HomeCare, Oral Care, Baby Care, Feminine Care, Hair Careand Skin Care.

For the plant’s Human Resourcesteam, the answer was clear fromthe outset: create a safe & secureworking environment for allemployees and provide training toensure that all employees, includingwomen, felt included & valued.At P&G’s manufacturingplant in Hyderabad,India, the P&G teamhad worked diligentlyto attract local womento the workforce,recognizing theimportance of genderdiversity as a competitive advantage. However, dueto government concerns over the safety of women,women were only permitted to work around a dayshift schedule.For the plant’s Human Resources team, the answer wasclear from the outset: create a safe and secure workingenvironment for all employees and provide trainingto ensure that all employees, including women, feltincluded and valued.P&G’s plant leadership worked in close partnership withthe state government, demonstrating to governmentofficials that it was possible for women to work nightshifts without compromising safety.Through this positive and proactive collaborationwith the local government, P&G helped women inHyderabad to share their unique talents and skillson all work shifts.Today Hyderabad serves as a benchmark for genderdiversity in India. Sometimes youfind world-classathletes inunexpected places.In The Know: P&G FlexiCenterOpened in August 2011, P&G’s FlexiCenter isa packaging customization center for Tampax,a feminine protection brand.P&G conducted this initiative in concert with theMaine Bureau of Rehabilitation Services andDepartment of Health & Human Services.The facility is located in Auburn, Maine, a townof approximately 23,000 people.

Having the chance to competeat the highest levels of her sportenabled Kala to set yet another goaland to channel her energies in apositive direction toward winning.Take Kala Emery,for example. Whenshe wasn’t preparingto compete in crosscountry skiing at theSpecial Olympics inSouth Korea in 2013,she was working atP&G’s FlexiCenter in Auburn, Maine.The FlexiCenter, opened in the fall of 2011, focuseson creating new jobs for people with disabilities ina way that holds every employee accountable for thesame expectations and goals. Today, individuals withdisabilities represent over a third of the workforceat the FlexiCenter. The atmosphere at the FlexiCenterprovides individuals with disabilities with theopportunity to perform at their peak every day.medal in cross-country skiing, proving once again thevalue of diversity for every individual and the personalbest of this athlete at her peak performance.Having the chance to compete at the highest levels of hersport enabled Kala to set yet another goal and to channelher energies in a positive direction toward winning.Kala’s drive to overcome the difficult challenges ofa disability has a special meaning for all of us at P&G,as an ongoing supporter of the Special Olympics.Her victory is a win we can all share as we continueto work diligently to foster an inclusive environmentwhere everyone can succeed.Before traveling to South Korea, her friends andcolleagues, P&G Facebook friends and P&G Twitterfollowers sent her off with well wishes and acelebratory party at the Auburn site in recognitionof all her hard work to reach this point.At the end of January 2013, facing tough competitionon a South Korean ski slope, Kala earned the silverP&G renews Olympics partnership

In early 2013, thelong-awaited releaseof Sheryl Sandberg’sbook, Lean In, cameto life with a brandnew online communitydesigned to supportwomen in theworkforce.In The Know: Lean InLean In is a non-profit organization launchedin March 2013 by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO.The online community has grown to nearly300,000 members.There are more than 10,000 Lean In Circlesin 50 countries.

That’s how Lean In,the non-profit organization,was born.As the Chief Operatingrapidly expanding network and to further supportOfficer of Facebook,the advancement of women and every individual.Sandberg believedFeatured on the Lean In website is a personal storysocial media providedfrom Melanie Healey, P&G Group President — Northa unique opportunityAmerica and Global Hyper, Super, Mass Channel,to offer women ongoing who shares how the Company’s flexible attitude was asupport and practicalturning point in her career at P&G. In a country wherethe vast majorityof employed womenwork in education,healthcare and publicadministration, onlyabout 5 percent workin the private sector.In The Know:P&G Saudi ArabiaP&G entered the Arabian Peninsula in 1956,initially importing Tide detergent to Saudi Arabiaand the region.P&G has offices located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,and plants in Dammam and Jeddah.Built in 1979, the Dammam Plant produces laundrydetergents, dish washing liquids and shampoos.

P&G’s commitment to theadvancement of women isreflected over the decades of workwithin Saudi Arabia and in strongpartnerships with local government.Women are separatedfrom men in publicsettings in the Kingdomof Saudi Arabia, andit’s rare for womenand men to work sideby side. Sensitivity andrespect for local culturewas an initial challenge in bringing women into P&G’sworkforce in Saudi.Since the Saudi labor laws include a provision foremploying women, the P&G Saudi team decided topursue a gradual approach towards gender diversity.The firs
