Course Selection Closes April 11 Students must have selected courses on Talos. Selection does not guarantee a student will getthe classes they chose. All programs must be approved by the schoolcounselor Finalized programs will be distributed tostudents no earlier than September.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW Students could lose qualified entry classesif there are changes in their June grades

CRUCIAL Students need to select classes carefully in Talos. Students willnot be permitted to change or drop classes if they don’t “like”them. For some classes, students must also choose ALTERNATES thatthey are willing to take if their first choice is not available Alternate selections are not required for “additional classes” Students will be expected to honor their commitment toclasses they receive even if not their first choice

EVEN MORE CRUCIALStudents who fail to select courses by the deadlinewill be given generic programs, chosen by theirschool counselors

Oh no!What if I change my MIND? Students can contact their school counselor April-June if they want tochange the selections they initially made. Decisions about staffing and number of sections are made inearly spring based on initial choices Options for course selection changes may be limited Students must check their bxscience email regularly for programmingand other communications from the school. Students receive preliminary programs in the summer (by email). Once students receive their programs in September, programs cannotbe changed

10th Grade Foundational Classes Rising 10th graders choose One term of Coding for All (computer science) and oneterm of Rhetoric and Composition (writing course)OR Enter the three-year Research Track (Regeneron) andtake a full-year sophomore research course followedby research courses in junior and senior years This is a three year commitment

Research TrackSophomore Foundational Classes Over the course of three years, students completeindependent research in an area of their interest Biology Projects Mathematics/ Computer Science Projects Physical Science/ Engineering Projects Social Science Projects

Planning Ahead Summer school Taking Art/Drama/Music/Health duringthe summer frees up “space” to takeadvantage of our robust courseofferings during the school year or tohave a break!

Planning Ahead Prerequisites Keep in mind some classes you may want to takehave prerequisites so plan ahead. For example, youmust take AP Biology before you can take Post-APBiology: Advanced Genetics

Planning Ahead College major/ career interest Keep your academic interests in mindwhen choosing classes

The Right Schedule The Right Experience Bronx Science strongly encourages allstudents to have a lunch period

The Right Schedule The Right Experience Consider quality over quantity Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic factors Take classes for which you have a passion and atrue interest in the subject Do not think you can predict who your teacher will be orwhat period the class will be offered

The Right Schedule The Right Experience Parents/Guardians: Remember, YOU are notresponsible for completing the work! Letyour child dictate what they feel they canmanage. Support them in their choices andendeavors!

Other Things to Keep in Mind . Where are your children studying? Is that the bestplace for that to occur? What does stress look like for them? Are they drinking too many coffees/Monsters? Are they eating poorly?

Sleep?! Who Needs That When I HaveCoffee?! Please, do not undervalue the importance of sleep in regardsto staying healthy, alert and efficient! Sleep will help with recall, recovery and rejuvenation! Structure and a routine are key elements to success! Encourage your children to “unplug” 30 minutes beforebedtime It is helpful to end the day with something they want to doversus something they have to do
