INTRODUCTION / WELCOMEThe Tyler Junior College Nursing Student Handbook has been compiled by the faculty to provideinformation pertinent to students enrolled in the nursing program. The purpose of this handbook is todetail policies and procedures specific to this program. The handbook is constructed to be used as asupplement to the Tyler Junior College Catalog as well as the current Tyler Junior College StudentHandbook (https://www.tjc.edu/downloads/file/1507/student handbook). Adherence to policies isrequired.The faculty of the nursing program is responsible for supporting the mission and philosophy of the college,ensuring continuous approval of the program and facilitating the eligibility of the graduates to seeklicensure. Therefore, program policies for placement, progression, and graduation of nursing students willdiffer in specific instances from those of the College.Welcome to the Nursing Program. The faculty and staff wish you success in your pursuit of youreducational goals. The mission of the program is in the center of the model.AntecedentsBefore TJC Nursing can exist, certain factors must be present. If these antecedents do not exist or are notfunctioning effectively, then the TJC Nursing program will not thrive and/or the mission will not beachieved.1. Budget and grants. TJC Nursing has an annual budget that covers the operational costs of theprogram. The Nursing Program applies for additional outside funding by submitting grants withfederal, state and private foundations. On occasion, a donor will donate will earmark moneyspecifically to the Program. This additional funding enhances the resources available to supportinstruction.2. Clinical affiliate agreements. TJC Nursing maintains a variety of clinical affiliate agreements withhospitals, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, long term care facilities and others toensure a rich, diverse, variety of clinical learning experiences to support students in meeting theprograms outcome learning goals.3. Community support and partnerships. TJC Nursing has a Nursing Advisory Board that provides aforum for dialogue
