MARK’SREFLECTION“He has made us intoa kingdom ”Today is the Solemnity of Our Lord JesusChrist, King of theUniverse. The readings today emphasizehis greatness, but thesecond reading itsays that Jesus alsowants us to be great. He wants us to share in his power. It says that he has“made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father ” (Rev. 1:5-8) By baptism we are given a share in his power to be priest, prophet and king. All Catholics are supposed to help Jesus to rule, guide and pray for the world. We knowthat the saints became stronger and healthier and wiser and more fully alive. The saints developed their natural abilities to the utmost with the help of God.St. Irenaeus wrote “the Glory of God is man, fully alive.”We can be proud of the fact that many Catholics have become great and havehad a positive influence on the world. Many of the greatest artists and writersand musicians of the world were Catholic, including: J.R. Tolkien, WilliamShakespeare and Flannery O’Connor. Many great athletes have been outspoken about their Catholic faith helpedthem through difficult times, including Vince Lombardi, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Tommy Lasorda, Brett Favre, Don Shula, and Phillip Rivers. It is important for us to remember that many of the greatest scientists werepriests or devout Catholics, including Roger Bacon (Franciscan who inventedthe scientific method), Blaise Pascal (mathematician and physicist), Louis Pasteur (chemist who invented “pasteurization”), Gregor Mendel (who founded thescience of Genetics), Eugenio Barsanti (priest who invented the internal combustion engine), Ramon Llull (invented the first computer), Theodoric Freiberg(priest who gave the first correct explanation of rainbows), Georges Lemaitre(priest physicist who first proposed the theory of the Big Bang). (There are moreexamples at http://thomism.org/history/catholic scientists). We rejoice today that Jesus is the King, and we also thank him because he has“called us to the glory that made us a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holynation, a people set apart” (Sunday Preface 1).-Fr. Mark

Harrington notes: “Theterms ‘already’ and ‘not yet’ capture the New Testamentdynamic of eschatology. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection we have already been freed from domination bysin and death and freed for life in the Holy Spirit. And sowe can now stand beside Jesus and address God as‘Our Father,’ as we look forward in hope for the fullnessof God’s kingdom. As we live between the times of the‘already’ and the ‘not yet,’ we continue to pray ‘Thy kingdom come!’”As we end one liturgical year and move toward the newliturgical year, let us remember that God is present ineverything, that God is the beginning and the end, “theAlpha and the Omega.” Let us fill our days and nightswith the awareness that God is all in all. Parish CouncilsPASTORAL RDSHIP NANCE COUNCILfinancecouncil@presentationchurch.netEd Hendrickson facilitydirector@presentationchurch.netSCHOOL OFFICE ASSISTANT“The parish is where the Church lives. PRAYER AND WORSHIP4CHURCH OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY STOCKTON, CASaint of the WeekSAINT ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY1207-1231 FEAST DAY: NOVEMBER 17Elizabeth’s short life was nonetheless full; she had a happymarriage and children, was a secular Franciscan, and was sodevoted to the poor and sick that she gave away royal robes andfounded hospitals. The daughter of a Hungarianking, Elizabeth married a nobleman of Thuringia, Louis, at age14. He complained about the expense of her many charities untilhe witnessed a miracle involving Elizabeth, bread, and roses. After he died during a Crusade, she became a Third OrderFranciscan at Marburg, Germany, where she founded a hospitalto care for the sick. Elizabeth, who was declared a saint in 1235,is the patron of bakers, young brides, widows, those falselyaccused, countesses, and secular Franciscans.Copyright 2020, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington DC. At the time of our death, many of us mightnot be saints yet. But God, in His mercy, allowsfor those who love Him to experiencepurification after death. Our word for that stateis Purgatory. It’s the antechamber of heaven,so to speak. Here on [E]arth, we can pray forthe souls in Purgatory. Just as we have specialintentions for family and friends here on [E]arth,we can pray for those who have died. It’s also agood act of Christian charity to pray for theforgotten, those who have no one else to prayfor them.FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27Dn 7:15-27/Lk 21:34-36NEXT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 28Jer 33:14-16/1 Thes 3:12—4:2/Lk 21:25-28,34-36IN REMEMBRANCEJimmy McCluskeyFrancisco CruzLeticia R. How much time, energy, and money do you putinto building “your” kingdom here on earth? We all know wecan’t take it with us. The real kingdom is in the next life. Yet,how much time, energy, and money do you invest in workingfor that eternal kingdom? Ask God for His guidance. Detachfrom earthly possessions. Generously share your materialgoods with others for the greater glory of God.La vida es corta. Marcos
