ACKNOWLEDGMENTSI am forever indebted to my venerable Guru, His HolinessSwami Sahajananda Tirtha, who made me a Shaktipat GrandGuru.I am also deeply indebted to all the venerable Gurus of mylineage of the “Order of Shaktipat” whose collective wisdomhas been the guiding light for me while venturing into someof the uncharted waters of this ocean of ancient knowledge.I compliment all the practitioners who made thecompilation of this book possible. If they had not persistedwith their numerous doubts on the subject, I would not havepossibly explored my mind so deeply for throwing light onsome of the lesser-known details regarding the subject.I am grateful to Mr. Nagarajan Chidambaram fromHyderabad. He is one of the practitioners who hadpainstakingly compiled the main bits of conversation betweenthe other practitioners and me.I am grateful to Mrs.Vartika Shukla from Gurugram, Indiaone of the Shaktipat Gurus for doing comprehensive editingof the book.i

INTRODUCTIONThe word Shaktipat means the descent of the energy. It isnot an independent yoga system. It is simply an ancient yogatechnique. However, it is the highest yoga technique or themother of all yoga techniques known to mankind. In this, thesupreme cosmic power itself is used as the technique onitself. The supreme cosmic power does the creation of thecosmos at both individual and collective levels. Therefore, the efficient disintegration or destruction of the worlds canonly be done by the cosmic power itself.Every human being is a miniature model of the cosmos asper ancient Sanskrit texts. Therefore, whether at the level ofmacrocosm or microcosm, it is the same cosmic power that isinvolved in its creation, sustenance, and also the finaldisintegration. As a result, the only thing that exists in thecosmos is this supreme cosmic power. It pervades theinfinite cosmos. Even modern science admits this fact. Thehuman bodies with their flesh, blood, and bones are alsomade out of this same cosmic power. However, theunderlying substratum of this vast and infinite cosmos isunknown. We can call it the God or the Almighty or theBrahman or the Atman or the divinity. It is widelyproclaimed in all ancient Sanskrit texts that the samesubstratum of the cosmos is also pervading everywhere1

Colonel T Sreenivasuluinfinitely. Therefore, whether it is cosmic power or thedivine is the same as two sides of the same coin. From thisperspective and also as proclaimed in ancient Sanskrit texts, ahuman being is a miniature model of the cosmos; the sameunderlying substratum in the form of divinity pervades thehuman bodies too!The self-realization for a human being is, therefore, becomes the only thing to be known or realized. The selfrealization results in the realization of the cosmos too. Thatmeans if a drop of water in an ocean realizes its nature, thenit also knows the entire vast ocean. Therefore, there is nonecessity for a human being to explore the vast and infinitedepths of interstellar and intergalactic space. The technique applied to achieve this realization in ahuman being is what is called Shaktipat. The process which isaffected by this technique is called yoga in general terms. Theprocess terminates in self-realization or salvation or a mergerwith the universal spirit called God etc.Various yoga techniques have been developed sinceancient times to achieve this grand aim of joining theindividual soul with the universal soul. However, due to thegigantic nature of the task involved, it is impossible for ahuman being to affect this process on his or her own. Allyoga techniques or tantric techniques applied are solelygeared to achieve a certain benchmark. That benchmark is toinstigate the outbound cosmic power from its creative modeto retract itself. As a result, the same cosmic power whichhad created the human being and his or her individual worldstarts to disintegrate it by means of destroying the karma’simprinted in their subconscious minds. This benchmark is what is called awakening of the cosmicenergy. However, there is nothing known as awakening assuch in its classical sense of the meaning of the word. Theall-powerful, all-knowing, and supreme cosmic power isalways awakened as we understand the word. It is just thepoint at which it starts to retract itself from the creative andsustenance mode to disintegrative or destructive mode is2

Secrets of Shaktipat and Kundalini Yogawhat we term as “awakening” for ease of our understandingof the subject. The awakened cosmic energy in the terminology of humanbeings is what is called the awakening of kundalini energy. This cosmic energy, after having created a human being issupposed to be lying in a dormant state at the base of thecerebral-spinal system in a human body. It is also supposedto be continuously projecting or sustaining the illusion of“life” for a human being. This illusion is akin to a mirage in adesert that gives the optical illusion of water. In every path of the yoga or tantric system, thisbenchmark is achieved for the practitioner. As a result, thereis nothing left for the yoga practitioner to do anythingfurther. Whatever has to happen will happen without anyeffort from the yoga practitioner! The awakened cosmicenergy does the process of disintegration of the world ordestruction of the individual karma’s after it starts retractingor collapsing inwardly. Different names in different yogasystems call this energy. However, it is popularly known askundalini energy.Shaktipat is an exclusive yoga technique applied for anawakening of the kundalini energy. A small explanation isrequired here to understand the reason for this specializedyoga technique. The spiritual evolution of a spirit or theAtman of a human being can be broadly categorized intothree stages. The first stage is before the awakening of kundalini energy! In this stage, all effort is put in by the yoga practitionervoluntarily, with egoism coloring all actions. All kinds ofworship of God, yoga practices, tantric practices, etc comeunder this category. However, the effort put in by thepractitioner amounts to be very minute in nature. After the awakening of kundalini energy, the effort is put inby the supreme cosmic power itself internally. As a result, thedestruction of karmās accumulated in a human being occursat a rapid and accelerated rate. This second stage terminatesin a state of thoughtlessness or samādhi as it is called in3

Colonel T SreenivasuluSanskrit texts. The third stage starts from here. However, there is nomore yoga technique left for this stage. Hence, there is noknown initiation into this final path. All ancient texts haveremained silent after this. It is said in the texts that the finaljourney of the soul to achieve its merger with the universalsoul or God occurs at the will of God.Therefore, the technique of Shaktipat deals with thesecond stage only. However, human beings must havepracticed different yoga systems in their different past lives. As a human being approaches a certain benchmark in theirrespective chosen paths for an awakening of the cosmicenergy, initiation is given by a Guru by using the technique ofShaktipat. After Shaktipat is done on a human being, it remains activeforever until salvation is attained. That means Shaktipat iscarried forward to their afterlives. However, in every lifetime,it is mandatory to take formal Shaktipat initiation under aGuru in a formal manner. When Shaktipat is done on aperson in whom the kundalini energy is already active by birth,it gets stabilized at a safe level. In people in whom thekundalini energy has not been activated, it will get activatedfor the first time, provided they have reached closer to thebenchmark level, which I have explained above. Therefore, Shaktipat is meant in a way for some peopleonly. It cannot be given to anyone. It may not work even ifit is given. The destiny itself decides who is meant to receiveShaktipat initiation. That means the karmās accumulated bythe practitioners themselves in their past lives or current lifewill draw them towards the path of Shaktipat.A Guru may appear out of nowhere all of a sudden andbless them with Shaktipat đeeksha. This is crucial tounderstand. Because of this, the technique is not verypopular among mankind. That means people do not usuallymeet Shaktipat Gurus in the first place. Probably due to theadvancements in modern communication technology, peopleare hearing about it in recent times. However, the actual4

Secrets of Shaktipat and Kundalini Yogaprocess of Shaktipat initiation takes place or depends upontheir past accumulated karmās only. I do not wish tocomment upon a large number of Gurus in recent times whomay be offering to give Shaktipat initiation for fees. Theirauthenticity cannot be taken for granted. The author of this book happens to be one of mydisciples. I gave him a Shaktipat initiation about 12 years ago.He has even written a book “The Power Unknown to God”on his personal experiences during the awakening of kundalinienergy previously. I have also given him the dheekshadhikaraor the authorization to give Shaktipat initiation to people atthe beginning of 2019. He has been rendering his services tome tirelessly ever since then, by giving Shaktipat initiation tomore than 200 people in less than a year.A large number of people have numerous doubtsregarding the subject, especially during the initial stages aftertaking Shaktipat initiation. The guidance from a Guru iscrucial during such stages. I am very glad to see so many ofhis practitioners asking numerous doubts on the subject. Iam also happy to see so many of them developing kriyas orreactions in their bodies and narrating them. Authenticliterature concerning personal experiences available on suchsubjects is limited. Therefore, this book is priceless in a waybecause it will add up to the existing literature on the subject. Moreover, I find that practitioners have explored the mind ofthe author in such great depths by posing him numerousquestions covering almost all aspects pertaining to thesubject. Hence, the title of the book “Secrets of Shaktipat andKundalini Yoga” is quite apt.May this book remain a beacon of knowledge to allkundalini yoga practitioners from all paths!May it contribute to the less-known subject concerning thepractical intricacies of kundalini yoga practice! There may be a huge volume of literature available onkundalini yoga in recent times. But, that is mostly theoreticalin nature. The authentic knowledge which can be applied tothe physical practice of the yoga system is limited. Therefore,5

Colonel T SreenivasuluI am sure that this book will be of immense help to all yogapractitioners. Lastly, I am sure this book will also be of greathelp for all Shaktipat Gurus while interacting with theirdisciples.- Swami Sahajananda Tirtha6

FOREWORDDuring the peak winter season of the year 2019 in themonth of January, I have been conferred with the honor ofShaktipatđeekshadhikara or the authorization to give Shaktipatinitiation into kundalini yoga, by my venerable Guru, HisHoliness Swami Sahajananda Tirtha. His Holiness is now 97years old, living in the city of Vijayawada in the State ofAndhra Pradesh in India. He has already stopped givingShaktipat initiation to people directly for a while now. I wasinitiated into kundalini yoga by Shaktipat nearly 12 years agoby His Holiness in the year 2007. I have written my firstbook, “The Power Unknown to God, ” published in the year2014, on my personal experiences during the awakening ofkundalini energy. The book has been subsequently translatedinto 17 more world languages and published on several majorplatforms like Amazon. When His Holiness first mentioned about this a few yearsago, I was completely reluctant to take on this sacredresponsibility. I felt that it would be a distraction and aburden for me. Moreover, my Guru has already conferredthe honor of giving Shaktipat initiation to three of my fellowpractitioners earlier who were already on the job for sometime now. Further, I always had this tendency to avoid takingon any kind of responsibility. Whenever I happened to7

Colonel T Sreenivasulubelieve that a particular work can be handled by someoneelse, I simply avoided it quietly. Perhaps this is inbuilt in myblood. However, His Holiness has been insisting on it on afew occasions from time to time. Before my Guru broached this topic of conferring thishonor on me, I was already entrusted with the task of writingtwo more books on two different topics. One of the topicshappens to be on the science of giving Shaktipat initiation intokundalini yoga. This is in the wake of publishing my firstbook. I was a little surprised because writing such a bookwould require the skills of being a Shaktipat Guru. Further, not much of the literature is available directly on the topicmentioned above. This means I would not have the benefitof referring to any books. This has given me the firstindication of my Guru’s future plans for me.In the year 2019, I happened to give Shaktipat initiation tomore than 200 people from a wide range of backgrounds. This includes people from different religious, educational, professional, social and ethnic backgrounds. The list alsoincluded some of my own friends for which I am grateful tothe Almighty for giving me the opportunity to wipe off mykarmic debt to them. The range of age for both men andwomen varied from 20 to 75 years. In some cases, teenagersas young as thirteen years even approached me for Shaktipatinitiation into kundalini yoga. I had to flatly refuse on thepretext that they are still minors legally. In some cases, parents themselves have brought their children for theinitiation. Only in such cases where parent’s involvement wasthere directly, I had agreed to compromise with my strict agestipulation a little bit. Apart from this, I had to refuse to giveShaktipat initiation to many more due to several reasons likesuffering from major diseases, addiction to drugs, mentalinstability, mental retardation, vested interest in takingShaktipat initiation for materialistic gains, curiosity to gainsupernatural powers etc. , However, I have neverdiscriminated against anyone including those who are genderchallenged or with different sexual orientation or with any8

Secrets of Shaktipat and Kundalini Yogakind of other issues like non-belief in God etc. ,I was aware that a lot of questions would be asked bypeople, especially during the initial stages of practice. However, I had never expected to give Shaktipat initiation toso many people in such a short period. I was alsooverwhelmed by both the volume and range of questionsasked by the practitioners. In a way, practitioners have forcedme to explore my mind within threadbare. Otherwise, Iwould have never explored myself within so deeply. Some ofthe questions asked by practitioners were rare from the pointof its content. I mean you don’t find answers to such kindsof questions usually anywhere among the existing literatureon Shaktipat and kundalini yoga. The idea of compiling myanswers to questions never occurred to me initially. This wassuggested by one of the practitioners later on. However, bythat time, many of the questions and answers have alreadybeen missed out. Unfortunately, I don’t remember thosemissed out questions and answers now.Later I had the idea of compiling the experiences also bydifferent practitioners so that it will add to the existingliterature on the science of Shaktipat initiation into kundaliniyoga. Most of my answers to the questions are not new from thepoint of its content. They are consistent with the well-knownphenomenon expounded by various Gurus of the Shaktipatlineage. However, some of the questions have been answeredwith a slight modification so that the message can beunderstood by a wide range of people with a differentbackground. I have tried my best to keep the variousreligious and philosophical teachings out of the discussion. Ihave more or less strictly adhered to the teachings of yogatexts. This book is basically the compilation of various questionsasked by the practitioners who have taken Shaktipat initiationfrom me and their direct experiences in the aftermath ofShaktipat initiation.A few questions asked by otherpractitioners who have not been initiated by me have also9

Colonel T Sreenivasulubeen included. Some of the questions asked by thepractitioners have been deliberately not included since theywere too personal, and this book would have got cluttered. There is a massive quantity of literature available all overthe world in many languages pertaining to kundalini yogapractice. However, the available literature is mostly on theawakening of kundalini energy through various independentmethods like Ashtanga yoga or Raja yoga. Literature availableon Shaktipat initiation into kundalini yoga is generally limited.Further, authentic personal experiences are rarely madeavailable. Therefore, I am hopeful that this book will bebeneficial to all the practitioners of kundalini yoga fromvarious lineages.A general reader may also find itinformative as well as educative. These are the less known secrets of those bravepractitioners who have ventured into the much less knownwaters of the ocean of knowledge.May the supreme cosmic power in the form of awakenedkundalini energy in their bodies guide them safely to cross thisvast ocean of samsāra or this worldly existence! May thisShaktipat initiation into kundalini yoga free them all foreverfrom the cycle of birth and death!God bless you all.- Author10

Glad to see your progress. Please continue with your sadhan same way.A practitioner: Guruji, I am kinda overeating these days.I am gaining weight too. Please Guide.13

Colonel T SreenivasuluMy response: That's kriya only. It happens that waysometimes. Please don't worry about it too much. However, please try and eat moderately. Secrets of Shaktipat and Kundalini Yogabother about the dream experiences. Kriyas are neitherdestroyed nor accumulated during the dream state.A practitioner: It was not like a normal dream which Iexperienced earlier. The falling and touching feelings werelike actual and real.My response: Okay. I understand that your dream wasvery intense. But nevertheless please remember that karmasare neither created nor destroyed during the dream state. They are simply your sensual impressions accumulated in thesubconscious mind which were surfacing when your mindwas in dream state. What happened after you woke up fromyour dream? It simply faded as a memory although itappeared to be real while you were in dream state. However,if you keep recollecting your dream that memory will becomea fresh karma and might get repeated again later. Pleaseunderstand this. Therefore, just let it go. It doesn't meananything else for you. It doesn't foretell any future eventseither.A practitioner: Sharing my today's sadhan experience. Ihad a crushing sensation in my spleen and kidney area. It feelslike a heavy pain. I had some sort of electric shock likesensations in stomach and head portion. I was unable to sitfor more than 20 mins, my mind was wandering. I was unableto focus. My response: Okay, glad to see you doing sadhan. Pleasedon't worry if you are not able to do sadhan for long time. However, let's observe your kriyas more over the comingdays. Electric shock like sensation is understandable. Butplease be careful about the pain in stomach and kidney areas. Please watchout for any health issues as well.A practitioner: Guruji, I haven’t been meditating regularlydue to caring for my little baby. However, l do listen to mymantra using headphones at bedtime. Last night whilelistening to my mantra I had a dream and in it, I saw cobrasnake that was following me everywhere in my dream. Doesthat have to do with Kriya? My response: Vision of a snake during dream state is very15

Colonel T Sreenivasuluauspicious for Shaktipat practitioners. Please don't worryabout it. However, it's not deemed to be a kriya becausekarmas are neither created nor destroyed during the dreamstate. I am glad to know that you are listening to mantraregularly. That amounts to chanting of the mantra only. However, please don't start your sadhan till you recover fully.A practitioner: Guruji, from past few days on someoccasions I feel like crying and many a times my eyes havetears almost by seeing a movie or listening to a song. Thisnever happened before. I am not a guy to cry on silly things. Iam also not able to sit in sadhan for a longer time. Whyguruji? My response: Excellent, kriyas pertaining to the sheath ofmind or Manomaya Kosha are also happening for youregularly now. They may continue over a prolonged period. You just need to remain in a state of witness whenever theymanifest. Please never try to resist them however negativethey might appear to be. I am very happy to see yourprogress. Please continue with your sadhan same way. Withregard to your not being able to sit for a longer duration, please don't worry about it at this stage. Recently only youraggressive kriyas have subsided. Let the sadhan take itscourse. Let it stabilize first. On your part just surrenderyourself completely to the divinity. That's all you need to do.Later on you will be able to do sadhan for longer duration. Please have patience and perseverance. It's a life long journey. No need to rush through the sadhan. It is applicable more foryou because you have undergone very violent kriyas recently. You had to stop your sadhan also for a few days.A practitioner: Guruji, on the evening of initiation I toocried for 10 mins after listening to Hindustani classical. I didnot hear the singer before nor understood the language.Neither I am in a habit
