The festivalforms part of our 2019 Education Week celebrations andmore broadly our school’s goal to ensure our childrenhave opportunity to engage with rich learning experiencesthat foster innovative thinking and creativity. Our goal isto provide students with new learning experiences, fostercreative and critical thinking and involve our whole schoolcommunity in this exciting learning journey.All of our students will participate in a variety of learningexperiences and entertainment including specialisedworkshops facilitated by experts and communitymembers. They will also take part in a range of learningexperiences led by their teachers based on qualityliterature, engaging art and purposeful projects. Studentsin our performance and specialised groups will be giventhe opportunity to showcase their learning throughoutthe festival.The festival celebrates how NSW public schools areequipping young people with the skills and capabilitiesthey need to thrive in a rapidly changing, globalised world.The key messages include growth mindset, creative andcritical thinking, evolution of the classroom, strongrelationships, and commitment to innovation andexcellence.We invite you to join us for the various activitiesthroughout the festival. Take a look at our festival guideand planner to find out what’s on.Monday 5 August 2019Festival Launch in the Barton Playground @ 9.15amOur opening will begin at 9.15am in the Barton playground with a whole school assembly. As part of theopening we are looking forward to hearing reflections on our creative learning journeys from students,staff and parents. We will also be presenting some very special Education Week Awards as well as hearingperformances from our Senior and Intermediate Bands and the Senior Choir. All parents and communitymembers are welcome.

Monday 5 August – Evening EventsVivid Light Installation in the Playground@ 6.30pmCome and stroll through our playground to view our own Woollahra ‘Vivid’. Enjoy the light installationscreated by Year 6 students as part of their creative learning in STEM.Inaugural Woollahra Great Debate @ 7.00pm in the hallThe theme of the debate will be the future of education for young people,inspired by our thinking about how schooling could be different atWoollahra. The night will be hosted and adjudicated by Jenny Brockie fromSBS Insight and will feature an outstanding student team up against a braveWoollahra parent team!Jenny Brockie will work with a student team to adjudicate the debate. Jennywill also interview our children about their learning and we will present astudent produced and directed film called ‘Our Dream School’. Come alongto engage in some wonderful debate about the future of education and support our community of thinkers!Teacher Workshop: Sewing and Design with Ms Renate and Ms BarterDaily PerformancesYear 2 Recorder Ensemble, Primary Recorder Ensemble and K-2 Musical Theatre Company @ 1.30pm in theSchool HallTuesday 6 AugustCommunity Workshop:Light Painting with Peter SolnessPeter Solness’ workshops are based on 20 years ofexperimentation and practice as a celebrated artist. Peter isregarded as a pioneer in the art of light-paintingphotography. His images have been collected by major artinstitutions, as well as honoured with major photographicawards and profiled in numerous photography and artmagazines. This is an exciting initiative that putswellbeing strategies at the centre of our learning programs and gives all ofour children the tools and knowledge to develop resilience, compassion andhigh levels of emotional wellbeing.As part of the implementation of this wellbeing initiative we have invitedthe founder of Grow Your Mind Alice Peel, to present a parent workshop on Wednesday 14 August at7.00pm in the school hall. This will be an opportunity for parents to find out about the program, hear aboutthe learning your children are doing at school and learn about strategies you can use at home. The sessionwill run for an hour.We encourage you to come along and join us for the workshop. There is no cost for the event

Thousands ofstudents have called Woollahra home and remember theireducational experience here very fondly. We welcomeformer students back to our school for a tour of the schooland an opportunity to speak with our current studentsabout life at Woollahra! Meet in the hall at 9.30am. Gate 2on Forth Street is the best entrance.Daily PerformanceCombined Choir Performing at 9.30am in the hallCommunity Workshops:Specialist Music Workshop with Veneno andCarlos C MajorOur K-2 students will enjoy a workshop with musician and songwriter Carlos CMajor and his band Veneno. Carlos performed on The Voice this year and willrun an interactive workshop with our children filled with energy, music anddance. His images have been collected by majorart institutions, as well as honoured with major photographic awards and profiled in numerous photographyand art magazines. Our school community is invited to join us after dark in the playground to work with Peterin a collaborative light painting initiative.Friday 16 AugustCommunity Event – Showcasing the Future 9.30am – 10.45amParents, relatives and friends are invited to join us for a showcase morning. Visit our classrooms, enjoysharing in our learning and look at the displays of learning and work created throughout the festival. Thiswill include a special STEM fair presented by some of our classes across the school.

Creative Gifts – Thinking ToolkitsThe focus of the festival is on imagining our future through a creative lens. Throughout the festivalclasses will receive Creative Gifts. These gifts will be thinking toolkits and learning projects whichprovide all students across the school to explore new ideas, experience a different style of learningand develop innovative ideas. Once the boxes containing the learning gifts are opened the focus willbe wholly on thinking outside the box!Butterfly GalleryWith a theme of ‘Creating the Future’, our symbol is the butterfly whichrepresents change, hope and adventure. Every student in the school as writtentheir hopes for the future on a butterfly. Visit our butterfly gallery in the maincorridor of the Centenary Building (near the front office) to see the beautifuldisplays and look out for the butterflies with our hopes around the school.

Woollahra Public SchoolGROW YOURMINDParent & Community WorkshopWednesday 14 August at7.00pm in the school hallAs part of the school’s wellbeing strategy we are implementing Grow Your Mind across all of ourclassrooms. This is an exciting initiative that puts wellbeing strategies at the centre of our learningprograms and gives all of our children the tools and knowledge to develop resilience, compassionand high levels of emotional wellbeing.We need tools that are engaging and easy for teachers and parents to use regularly so that ourchildren feel empowered to take care of their emotional well-being. Mental health awareness needsto start really young, as it is an imperative life skill that requires practice to develop. The Grow YourMind team have designed kits for homes and schools that support children to understand theirbrains and emotions and focus on teaching skills for emotional wellbeing.As part of the implementation of thiswellbeing initiative we have invitedthe founder of Grow Your Mind AlicePeel, to present a parent workshopon Wednesday 14 August at 7.00pmin the school hall.
