IntroductionLight Output Ratio:The function of interior illumination is to provide human beingswith an environment which contributes to their mental andphysical well-being and prevents accidents. In addition, it shouldinfluence the mental state of the persons involved with the aim ofachieving a higher degree of performance, combating prematurefatigue and reducing errors. The choice of the right type of lightsources and luminaires is therefore crucial for appropriateillumination in any industrial environment viz. factories, refineries,chemical/fertilizer plants, project sites etc. This is the ratio of the flux emitted by the luminaire to the sum ofthe individual fluxes emitted by the lamps operating inside theluminaire under standard conditions. In this catalogue, a wide range of Bajaj Industrial LightingLuminaires for different applications are described alongwith theproduct photograph, line diagram, specification, electrical data, dimensional data, ingress protection categories (whereverapplicable) and typical installation photograph, enabling thecustomer to select the right type of luminaire. Photometric data ofeach luminaire with different lamps and different lampholderpositions are available on request.Total Output RatioFlux emitted by luminaire x 100% (or efficiency)No. of Lamps in a luminaire x nominalflux of one lampThe light output ratio is divided into:(a) Upward light output ratio.(b) Downward light output ratio.Utilization Factor:The utilisation factor for a reference plane is the ratio between fluxreceived on the working plane from the luminaire and the sum ofthe nominal fluxes from all the lamps in the luminaire. Utilisationfactors are calculated as follows :(a) For specified space to mounting height ratio.(b) For suspension to height ratio as specified.Bajaj Range of LuminairesBajaj offers an internationally accepted range of Industrial LightingLuminaires, with features that ensure efficient lighting, lowercapital and running costs, less power consumption and greateremployee comfort. These luminaires meet the requirement ofindoor and outdoor industrial situations when used with differentvarieties of lamps.Besides providing comfortable, glare-free working ambience, thecomputer-aided designed luminaires offer a choice of different lightdistribution. The reflectors are generally made of electrochemicallybrightened, polished, high purity anodised aluminium withstepped/multiple facets. It includes high bay, medium bay, low bayand Wellglass luminaires in both integral and non-integral designs.High quality, low loss control gear with power factor improvingcapacitor is incorporated in the luminaires as a significant add-on.The compilation of tables for the utilisation factor requires aconsiderable amount of laboratory measurements and calculations. For all the Bajaj Luminaires utilisation factor tables are available. The utilisation factor depends upon:(a) The light distribution of the luminaire.(b) The reflection properties of wall, ceiling and floor.(c) The inter reflection between wall, ceiling and floor, resultinginto the light reaching on the reference plane.(d) Room Index: This is an index which depends upon thegeometry of the room. The greater the room index, the greaterthe utilisation factor. The room index is given by the formulaTMBajaj's state- of-the- art technology, i.ea thin layer ofglass coating on the HID luminaire reflectors improve the life, efficiency and provides sustained illumination levels throughoutthe life. This allows light distribution spread to be uniform anddistributed optimally, according to the space height ratio andenhanced economy through wider spacing possibilities. There arevarious other benefits which have been explained separately.Whenever required, special finishes or higher degree of IP protectionare provided to meet aggressive conditions prevailing in fertilizerplants, chemical plants, oil refineries, etc. Bulkhead and Wellglassluminaires with control gears suitable for dusty and humidatmosphere are in the range.Basic concepts and fundamentals of planningBasic termLuminous fluxSymbolLumen (lm)fDefinitionLxWMH x (L W)Where, K Room Index, L Length of the Room, W Width ofthe Room and MH Mounting Height of the luminaire from theworking plane. This factor comprisesmostly of the following:WIDTHDesigning Industrial Lighting SystemsCreating a good industrial lighting system involves carefulconsideration of various parameters. Designer should take intoaccount the operating conditions at the site, application and thevisual tasks for which illumination is required. In recent times, energy efficiency has also become important parameter indesigning lighting scheme for industrial work area. Steps involvedin designing a lighting scheme for industrial area are.1. Lamp Lumen Depreciation. (LLD)2. Luminaire Dirt Depreciation. (LDD)Lamp Lumen Depreciation is the loss of light output withtime. Luminaire Dirt Depreciation is the loss of light outputdue to soiling of the luminaire with time. The first factor isnot generally dependent on environment but the second oneis Therefore it is obvious that in a clean environment, a highmaintenance factor can be adopted and in a dirtyenvironment a low value has to be used. The followingvalues may be selected according to the environment.nDetermine the quality of illumination needed for a particularmanufacturing process.nDetermine the quantity of illumination required at the taskor process.nConsider the color rendering required for the visual task.Very clean: 0.8 (e.g. Labs)nDetermine the appropriate lighting level required for safety, andensure all three of the factors – quality, quantity and safety – areproperly considered in the final design.Clean: 0.7 ( e.g. Shops, Offices, IT parks)Average: 0.6 (e.g. Machine Shops)Dusty: 0.5 (e.g. Foundry Shops)nSelect the suitable lightsource and luminaire that satisfiesall the design parameters and specifications, includingmechanical performance.nPrepare a lighting fixture layout that responds to the concerns ofmaintainability and safety. Bajaj Photolux software p r o v i d e scustomer friendly solutions that takes care of the above factors.nR e v i e w t h e e n e r g y, e c o n o m i ccharacteristics of the lighting system.andoperatingSelection of luminaire & arrangementThe selection of an appropriate luminaire and lamp dependson the combination of several of the following factors:1. Luminaire photometry, glare control and aesthetics.2. Luminaire efficiency and economics.3. Environment in which the luminaire is to be used.BIS provides guidelines for the lighting designer on the illuminancelevels required for various applications and visual tasks.4. The height at which it is to be mounted.5. The type of mounting arrangement.2

New Trends in Industrial Lighting1/2 SLAST ROW SHOULD BEHALF SPACING OR LESSSSTART LUMINAIRESFROM THE CENTRE.*1/2 S1/2 S1/2 SSS - LUMINAIRE SPACING1/2 S 1/2 S* IF EVEN NUMBER START 1/2SPACING EACH SIDE OF ROOMCENTRE IF ODD NUMBER, STARTON CENTRE LINECENTRE LINELuminaires should be arranged from the center of the area tothe outside. A square array is best but a rectangular arraywill work as long as spacing does not exceed space tomounting height ratio limits. With an odd quantity ofluminaire rows or columns, there will be a luminaire on thecenter line. With even quantities, the locations are one halfof a spacing of the center line. The luminaire closer to a wall should be one half of a spacingor less. In a functional area, the luminaires should run up to theedge of the area and beyond, if possible.Outdoor Lighting DesignIndustrial activities do take place in the outdoor location as well.Lumen method is not applicable there. Manual calculations aremade either by Point by Point method which is quite timeconsuming and laborious or by using standard tables. The modernmethod is to use the help of a computer.Computer Aided Lighting DesignIn order to prepare a number of alternate and accurate illuminationdesigns within a short period of time and thereafter to have themost economic and optimum design, the present day designers /users take help of a computer instead of working out manually. Forcomputer aided designs the preliminary steps are identical as inthe conventional methods of calculation except that finalcomputation is done with the help of computer. For computer aided designs, which require exhaustive photometricdata of the luminaires. The results are obtained with the help ofsoftware. We not only provide the photometric data of all theluminaires but also provide the most modern outdoor software forillumination design to the Architects, Consultants, ProjectAuthorities and the actual users on request. State-of-the-artsoftware enables to work out a number of alternate designs givingthe horizontal & vertical illumination levels, uniformity ratios in ashortest possible time. In-house designed and developed outdoorsoftware OLAS is a very useful lighting tool for quick estimation ofbasic design.3Select the lamp that provides energy efficient Lighting Solutions:a. Use luminaires with energy efficient T5 fluorescent lamp instead of conventional40 W FTL.Apart from excellent colour rendering properties, these lamps have higher luminousefficacy. Less number of luminaires will be required due to improved illuminationhence reducing cost of installation. This also ensures lower energy consumption of thetotal installation for same illumination level.b. Installation of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL's) in place of incandescentlamps.Compact fluorescent lamps are generally considered best for replacement of lowerwattage incandescent lamps. These lamps have efficacy ranging from 55 to 65lumens/Watt. The average rated lamp life is approximately 10 times longer than thatof a normal incandescent lamps. CFL's are highly suitable for places such asconference rooms, offices, pathways, building entrances, corridors, etc.c. Installation of metal halide lamps in place of mercury / sodium vapour lamps.Metal halide lamps provide high color rendering index when compared with mercury& sodium vapour lamps. These lamps offer efficient white light. Hence, metal halidelamp is the right choice for colour critical applications where, higher illuminationlevels are required. These lamps are highly suitable for applications such as assemblyline, inspection areas, painting shops, etc.d. Installation of High Pressure Sodium Vapour (HPSV) lamps for applicationswhere colour rendering is not critical.High pressure sodium vapour (HPSV) lamps offer more efficacy. But the colourrendering property of HPSV is very low. Hence, it is recommended to install HPSVlamps for applications such as street lighting, yard lighting, assembly workshop, storage area etc.Selection of Easy to service luminaires for production areas andworkshops.Installation of suitable luminaires, depends upon the height - low, medium & high bay.luminaires for high intensity discharge lamp are classified as follows:Low bay, for heights less than 5 metres.Medium bay, for heights between 5 – 7 metres.High bay, for heights greater than 7 metres.Ease of Maintenance has become a critical factor in selection of high bay or mediumbay luminaire. High bays with front opening housing (Similar to HBI F) ensures fasterand hassle free maintenance. This results in lower down time during maintenance.Customers are also now preferring luminaires with replaceable ballast assembly.Use of T5 luminaires for low bay / medium bay applications.Traditionally, luminaires with HPMV lamps were used for low bay applications. Inview of the energy efficiency offered by T5 luminaires, customers are selecting T5luminaires for Low bay and medium bay applications. (BTMB Range). Use of highefficacy T5 lamps (24 W / 54W T5 ) ensures lower number of luminaires for sameinstallation.Use of Electronic Ballasts for fluorescent lamp luminaires and Open typeballasts for HID luminaires.Electronic ballasts ensure flicker free high quality illumination for Fluorescent lampluminaires. They also provide substantial energy savings as watt loss in ballast is 2 -3Watts only.Conventional potted ballasts have now given way to Vacuum Pressure impregnated –open construction ballasts in HID lamp fittings. This ensures lower heating and morereliable operation.Note:nDue to our continuous efforts in developing products, improvement - BajajElectricals Limited reserves the right to make changes in the design and datawithout any prior notice.nVariations in dimensions 3mmnAll FTL/36W CFL luminaires can be supplied with BLLB/BELLB /BCCB-SD BallastnAll FTL & CFL luminaires with electronic ballast available as optionnUse superimposed ignitor for double ended metal halide lamp luminairesnInstallation & Product Photographs are indicative only
