Old Testament Prophecy Fulfilled By Jesus Christ

OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY FULFILLED BY JESUS CHRISTProphecy can be thought of as "pre‐written" history. The Old Testament contains 351 propheciesthat refer to the coming of the Messiah. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, fulfilled these prophecies thatwere written many hundreds of years, and in some cases more than a thousand years, before hisbirth. The Old Testament, written hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth, contains these 351prophecies that Jesus fulfilled through His life, death and resurrection. Mathematically speaking, theodds are staggering of anyone fulfilling a small amount of prophecy. Fulfilling just 8 is impossible!1 person fulfilling 8 prophecies: 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000 (only Jesus!)1 person fulfilling 40 prophecies: 1 chance in 10 to the 157th power (only Jesus!)1 person fulfilling 351 prophecies: (only Jesus!)During the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew chapter five, Jesus said: “Do not think that I have cometo abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." Jesus fulfilledall prophecy concerning God’s plan of redemption given by the Old Testament prophets and by doingso he fulfilled the law for us‐‐something no man or woman can do for themselves. What Jesus also taught wasthat we are still all underthe law if we do not acceptthat Jesus was the Son ofGod, died on the cross, androse to life on the thirdday.Yet no one can keep thelaw. The perfect sacrificeof Jesus, the Son of God,atones for a believer's sinsand gives the only path toour Father in heaven.1www.revelation‐now.org 2018

Matthew 5:17‐20 (NIV)“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish thembut to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, notthe least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything isaccomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches othersaccordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches thesecommands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless yourrighteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly notenter the kingdom of heaven."Some have wondered did Jesus teach that we are still under the law despite his sacrifice at the cross? It is especially important to note how the words are used in Matthew. In this context, “abolish” is setin opposition to “fulfill.” Jesus, the perfect Son of God, did not come to earth as an opponent of thelaw. Jesus came to complete all law, and fulfill all prophecy concerning God’s promise of redemption. The Book of Genesis: The best teacher on whether Jesus is to be found in the pages of the OldTestament is the teaching of Jesus himself. Jesus said in John 5:39‐40, “You study the Scripturesdiligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures thattestify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." The prophecy of Jesus goes all the wayback to the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3:15. Jesus fulfilled all 20 prophecies in Genesis.Prophecy1Bible VerseGenesis 3:15DescriptionSeed of a woman (meaning a virgin birth)FulfillmentGalatians 4:4-5; Matthew 1:182Genesis 3:15He will bruise Satan's headHebrews 2:14; 1 John 3:83Genesis 5:24The bodily ascension to heaven illustratedMark 16:194Genesis 9:26-27The God of Shem will be the Son of ShemLuke 3:365Genesis 12:3Seed of Abraham will bless all nationsGalatians 3:8; Acts 3:25-26Galatians 3:166Genesis 12:7The Promise made to Abraham's Seed7Genesis 14:18A priest after the order of MelchizedekHebrews 6:208Genesis 14:18King of Peace and RighteousnessHebrews 7:29Genesis 14:18The Last Supper foreshadowedMatt 26:26-2910Genesis 17:19Seed of Isaac (Gen 21:12)Romans 9:711Genesis 22:8The Lamb of God promisedJohn 1:2912Genesis 22:18As Isaac's seed, will bless all nationsGalatians 3:1613Genesis 26:2-5The Seed of Isaac promised as the RedeemerHebrews 11:1814Genesis 28:12The Bridge to heavenJohn 1:5115Genesis 28:14The Seed of JacobLuke 3:3416Genesis 49:10The time of His comingLuke 2:1-7; Galatians 4:417Genesis 49:10The Seed of JudahLuke 3:3318Genesis 49:10Called Shiloh or One SentJohn 17:319Genesis 49:10Messiah to come before Judah lost identityJohn 11:47-5220Genesis 49:10Unto Him shall the obedience of the people beJohn 10:162www.revelation‐now.org 2018

The Book of Exodus: The Book of Exodus is the second book of the Torah in the Hebrew Bible (theOld Testament) immediately following Genesis. The book tells how the Israelites leave slavery inEgypt through the strength of Yahweh. The Book of Exodus narrates how Moses led the Israelites inbuilding the Tabernacle (Exodus 35–40) based on God's instructions (Exodus 25–31). Even though itwas written long before Jesus, Exodus also contains nine prophecies (prophecies 21‐29) about Jesus.Jesus fulfilled all nine prophecies in Exodus.Prophecy21Bible VerseExodus 3:13-1522Exodus 12:523Exodus 12:1324Exodus 12:21-27252627DescriptionThe Great "I AM"FulfillmentJohn 4:26; 8:58A Lamb without blemishHebrews 9:14; 1 Peter 1:19The blood of the Lamb saves from wrathRomans 5:8Christ is our Passover1 Corinthians 5:7Exodus 12:46Not a bone of the Lamb to be brokenJohn 19:31-36Exodus 15:2His exaltation predicted as YeshuaActs 7:55-56Exodus 15:11His Character-HolinessLuke 1:35; Acts 4:2728Exodus 17:629Exodus 33:19The Spiritual Rock of Israel1 Corinthians 10:4His Character-MercifulLuke 1:72The Book of Leviticus: The Book of Leviticus is the third book of the Torah and of the Old Testament. Most of its chapters (1–7, 11–27) consist of God's speeches to Moses, in which he is commanded torepeat to the Israelites. This takes place within the story of the Israelites' Exodus after they escapedEgypt and reached Mt. Sinai (Exodus 19:1). Then in Leviticus, God tells the Israelites and their priestshow to make offerings in the Tabernacle and how to conduct themselves while camped around theholy tent sanctuary. Leviticus also contains seven prophecies (prophecies 30‐36) about Jesus. The name of the book comes from the two censuses taken of theIsraelites. Numbers begins at Mount Sinai, where the Israelites have received their laws andcovenant from God and God has taken up residence among them in the sanctuary. The task beforethem is to take possession of the Promised Land. The people are counted and preparations are madefor resuming their march. The Israelites begin the journey, but they "murmur" at the hardships alongthe way, and about the authority of Moses and Aaron. For these acts, God destroys approximately15,000 of them through various means.3www.revelation‐now.org 2018

They arrive at the borders of Canaan and send spies into the land. Upon hearing the spies' fearfulreport concerning the conditions in Canaan, the Israelites refuse to take possession of it. Godcondemns them to death in the wilderness until a new generation can grow up and carry out thetask. The book ends with the new generation of Israelites in the Plain of Moab ready for the crossingof the Jordan River. Numbers also contains three prophecies (prophecies 37‐39) about Jesus. Chapters 1–30 of the book consist of three sermons or speeches delivered to theIsraelites by Moses on the plains of Moab, shortly before they enter the Promised Land. The firstsermon recounts the forty years of wilderness wanderings which had led to that moment, and endswith an exhortation to observe the law, later referred to as the Law of Moses; the second remindsthe Israelites of the need to follow Yahweh and the laws he has given them, on which theirpossession of the land depends; and the third offers the comfort that even should Israel proveunfaithful and so lose the land, with repentance all can be restored. The final four chapters (31–34) contain the Song of Moses, the Blessing of Moses, and narrativesrecounting the passing of the mantle of leadership from Moses to Joshua and, finally, the death ofMoses on Mount Nebo. One of its most significant verses is Deuteronomy 6:4, the Shema Yisrael, which has become thedefinitive statement of Jewish identity: "Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one." Verses6:4–5 were also quoted by Jesus in Mark 12:28–34 as part of the Great Commandment.Deuteronomy also contains five prophecies (prophecies 40‐44) about Jesus. The Book of Joshua: The Book of Joshua gives the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to theBabylonian exile. It tells of the campaigns of the Israelites in central, southern and northern Canaan, the destruction of their enemies, and the division of the land among the Twelve Tribes, framed bytwo set‐piece speeches, the first by God commanding the conquest of the land, and, at the end, thelast by Joshua warning of the need for faithful observance of the Law (torah) revealed to Moses.Joshua also contains one prophecy (prophecy 45) about Jesus. In Ruth 1:16–17, Ruth tells Naomi, her Israelite mother‐in‐law, "Whereyou go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. But Saul proved unworthy and God'schoice turned to David, who defeated Israel's enemies and brought the Ark to Jerusalem. God thenpromised David and his successors an everlasting dynasty. The Book of Kings: The two Books of Kings, originally a single book, are the eleventh and twelfthbooks of the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament. They conclude the Deuteronomistic history, a history ofIsrael also comprising the books of Joshua and Judges and the two Books of Samuel, which biblicalcommentators believe was written to provide a theological explanation for the destruction of theKingdom of Judah by Babylon in 586 BC and a foundation for a return from exile. The two books ofKings present a history of ancient Israel and Judah from the death of King David to the release ofJehoiachin from imprisonment in Babylon, a period of some 400 years ( 960 – 560 BC).Kings also contains one prophecy (prophecy 53) about Jesus. The bulk of the remainder of 1 Chronicles, after a brief account of Saul, is concernedwith the reign of David (1 Chronicles 11–29). The next long section concerns David's son Solomon (2Chronicles 1–9), and the final part is concerned with the Kingdom of Judah with occasional referencesto the second kingdom of Israel (2 Chronicles 10–36). In the last chapter Judah is destroyed and thepeople taken into exile in Babylon, and in the final verses the Persian king Cyrus the Great conquersthe Neo‐Babylonian Empire, and authorizes the restoration of the Temple in Jerusalem, and thereturn of the exiles.Chronicles contain three prophecies (prophecies 54‐56) about Jesus. The Book of Proverbs is not merely an anthology but a "collection ofcollections" relating to a pattern of life which lasted for more than a millennium. It is an example ofthe Biblical wisdom tradition, and raises questions of values, moral behavior, the meaning of humanlife, and right conduct. The repeated theme is that "the fear of God (meaning submission to the willof God) is the beginning of wisdom." Wisdom is praised for her role in creation; God acquired herbefore all else, and through her he gave order to chaos; and since humans have life and prosperity byconforming to the order of creation, seeking wisdom is the essence and goal of the religious life.Proverbs contains two prophecies (prophecies 161‐162) about Jesus. In modern Judaism the Song is read on theSabbath during the Passover, which marks the beginning of the grain harvest as well ascommemorating the Exodus from Egypt. Jewish tradition reads it as an allegory of the relationshipbetween God and Israel, Christianity as an allegory of Christ and his "bride", the Church.Song of Solomon also contains one prophecy (prophecy 163) about Jesus. The Book of Isaiah: Isaiah contains the most prophecies about Jesus with 125 (prophecies 164‐288).Isaiah contains so many prophecies about Jesus that it has been called the "Fifth Gospel."Isaiah 1–33 promises judgment and restoration for Judah, Jerusalem and the nations, and chapters34–66 presume that judgment has been pronounced and restoration follows soon.
