THE COLLEGEMission StatementUniversal Graduate OutcomesThe mission of MTI College is to prepare its students withthe knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary forpursuing successful careers. The student population thatMTI serves includes the community of recent high schoolgraduates and adult learners in Northern California whodemonstrate the potential to benefit from the institution’seducational programs.As a learner-centered institution, MTI College iscommitted to preparing its students with the knowledge,skills, and confidence necessary for pursuing successfulcareers. While our programs are built around outcomesthat are specific to a field of study, they also includeoutcomes that are more universal in nature - knowledge,skills, and confidence that apply to all students,regardless of their major. MTI fulfills its mission, goals, and objectives through thetwo-year Associate of Applied Science degree inInformation Technology – Network Administration, and itstwo-year Associate in Arts degree options in BusinessAdministration and Paralegal Studies. Additionally, thecollege offers diploma programs in law, technology,business administration, healthcare, and cosmetology.In support of its mission, MTI allocates the followingresources: Personal attention provided through a smallstudent/faculty ratio;Hands-on training in well-equipped computerapplication instruction labs;Employment-driven programs designed to meet theneeds of business and industry through balancedcurriculum offerings of skill, knowledge, and generalstudies;Placement assistance for graduates in programrelated employment;Quality accreditation and approvals to ensureoptimum recognition for students completing theprograms.MTI’s success at meeting the objectives of its mission isevidenced by the high rates of enrollment, retention, andprogram-related job placement.The College Written and verbal communication in the student’schosen field of study;Problem solving typically required or characteristic ofthe profession;Internal and/or external customer service;Responsibility and accountability for independent andgroup work products;Using learning strategies necessary to keep current inthe profession and become a lifelong learner;Using the technology common to the current businessenvironment to improve individual and organizationalperformance;Behavior that reflects confidence, competence, andprofessionalism.History and FacilitiesMTI College was founded in Sacramento in 1965 byArnold Zimmerman who, in his previous 24-year Air Forcecareer, was convinced of the value of short directemployment training programs. MTI’s sustained growthand success can be explained very simply by its serviceto the community through counseling, testing,personalized instruction, relevant curriculum, qualifiedfaculty, reasonable fees, and a successful job placementservice for graduates.MTI College is one of the most complete facilities of itskind in the western United States. The college featurespleasant classrooms comparable to the offices andbuildings in which graduates will work. Equipment is similarto that found in modern work environments. Our campusis one of the very few private colleges in Sacramentodesigned and built exclusively for private career training.The facilities include labs with industry-current computersand peripheral equipment. Lab classes are typicallylimited to 23–26 students per class. In addition, MTI offers amodern, comfortable student lounge, Learning ResourceCenter for students’ convenience, and well-lit parkinglots.1

The Board of TrusteesThe board of trustees is responsible for directing theinstitution toward achieving its stated mission. While theboard is not responsible for the day-to-day decisions ofthe institution, it determines all major policies and issuesaffecting the educational aspects of the institution.Department at the Sacramento Employment and TrainingAgency (SETA), where he coordinated the resources ofthe Sacramento Training and Response Team (START) tomeet the hiring and training needs of area businesses.JOHN PETERSONDAVID ALLENMA, University of California, BerkeleyMBA, California State University, SacramentoJohn Peterson served more than 40 years in public andprivate education as a teacher, administrator, andeducational consultant. He served for 11 years as theCalifornia State Director for Private PostsecondaryEducation and 6 years as the Assistant Director for theAccrediting Council for Independent Colleges andSchools.David Allen has been actively involved with MTI Collegesince 1982. As Vice President, he oversees the operationsof the college administrative departments. He is anexperienced institution evaluator for the AccreditingCouncil for Independent Colleges and Schools and hasserved the community as a member of the ArdenArcade Community Planning Advisory Council.JOHN ZIMMERMANROY HURDBS, California State University, SacramentoBSEE, Heald Engineering CollegeRoy Hurd is an accomplished business and communityleader. He is known for his active communityparticipation, which includes serving as the director of theSanta Rosa Chamber of Commerce and the Sonoma,Marin, Mendocino, and Lake Counties Better BusinessBureau. He has more than 40 years of experience inpostsecondary education; currently he is president ofEmpire College in Santa Rosa, California.John Zimmerman has 30 years of employment at MTICollege, for the past 20 years as the institution’s president.In addition to his responsibilities at MTI, he has been amember of the board of directors and the executivecommittee of the California Association of PrivatePostsecondary Schools. He is a recognized collegeadmissions consultant and accreditation team evaluatorfor the Accrediting Council for Independent Collegesand Schools.JAMES PARDUNCorporate ControlMA, University of Nevada, RenoJames Pardun is a manager in Sacramento County’sEconomic Development Department. His responsibilitiesinclude business attraction, expansion, and retention;commercial corridor revitalization; and workforcedevelopment. CALENDAREnrollment ScheduleHolidaysStudents may register for most courses at any time. Newprograms generally begin on a quarterly and semiquarterly basis. Students should register far enough inadvance to allow time for class reservations andscheduling. Shortly after registration, an applicant isnotified of final acceptance or any additional conditionnecessary for admission. The college reserves the right tocancel, change, or postpone classes as required.The school term is continuous for the duration of theindividual course. School holidays are as follows:Students enrolling in degree programs are enrolled inboth years of their programs at the time of their initialenrollment. Advancement to the second year of theprogram is contingent upon the student’s successfulcompletion of the first year coursework and his/her goodstanding with the institution. The start date of the secondyear is determined by the date of completion of the firstyear curriculum and, in part, on student matriculationmeeting minimum institutional requirements. Second yearbook and supply charges, and payment arrangements(including financial aid awards) will be determined at thetime of degree program advancement.Program offerings detailed in this catalog are subject tochange due to employer or market influences. Studentswho have completed classes that are changed orreplaced are not entitled to take the new classes as apart of their original program. In special situations, thepresident may recommend exceptions to this policy.Schedule of ClassesDay and evening classes meet Monday through Friday.Evening students must be available to meet forscheduled classes up to five nights per week. Selectclasses meet one night a week and during the day onSaturday. Applicants maymake an appointment for an interview by calling thecollege admissions office. Selecting a training program isa serious matter that should be given properconsideration and planning. MTI College will approveadmission for students who demonstrate a potential tobenefit from an available curriculum. While eachapplicant is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, factorstypically used to determine potential to benefit includeaptitude, attitude, experience, and demeanor.For complete details regarding tuition and supplies for thecosmetology program, please refer to the MTI College PaulMitchell Partner School catalog supplement.Formal education and background requirements varydepending on the program. A high school education orits equivalent is required for all regular programs. Thisrequirement may be satisfied by a high school diploma,GED, or college degree. Prior college or related workexperience and/or industry certification is required in theadvanced phases of the Paralegal Studies andInformation Technology – Network Administrationprograms. Qualification for admission is determined on anindividual basis.Registration fee is 50.Book and supply charges vary by course and individual need.Students attending a program that exceeds one academic yearwill have a portion of their tuition applied to the secondacademic year period.
