Its purpose is to prescribe a uniform glossary ofmodeling and simulation (M&S) terminology for use throughout theDepartment of Defense. In addition to the main glossary ofterms, this Manual includes a list of M&S-related abbreviations,acronyms, and initials commonly used within the Department ofDefense.This Manual is effective immediately and is mandatory for use byall of the DoD Components. However, it is not a substitute forthe Department of Defense Dictionary of Military and AssociatedTerms (JOINT PUB 1-02), which the Secretary of Defense hasdirected to be used throughout the Department of Defense.The provisions of this Manual apply to" the Office of theSecretary of Defense (0SD), the Military Departments, theChairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, the Combatant Commands, theDefense Agencies, and activities administratively supported byOSD (hereafter called "DoD Components").Send recommended changes to the Manual to:Defense Modeling and Simulation OfficeATTENTION: Glossary Manager (Mr. Heusmann)1901 N.
