2Our missionThe mission of the EngineeringLeadership Development Program is toattract and accelerate the developmentof high-potential recent collegegraduates for the future responsibilityof being Engineering leaders atBAE Systems.The ELDP participants should be capableof guiding our people, business, andtechnology into new areas of growththrough Engineering excellence,strategic visioning, superior teamwork,and outstanding communication.The program achieves its objectivesthrough four key components:1. Technical development– Technical master’s degree– Technical Development Curriculum(TDC)2. Leadership development– Participation in BAE Systems, Inc.Leadership DevelopmentConferences (LDC)– Leadership University Modules– Opportunities to take on LeadershipAssignments3. Rotational work assignments– Opportunities for job rotationsacross business areas, disciplines,and functions– Participation in organizationalinitiatives4. High level of employee engagement– Technical advisors provided duringprogramto aid in technical development– Mentors provided post ELDPgraduationBAE Systems also offers similarleadership development programs inOperations (OLDP), Finance (FLDP),Human Resources (HRLDP), InformationManagement (IMLDP) and Quality(QLDP). 8Academic educationTechnical development trainingThe ELDP’s educational courseworkprovides a blended learning experiencethat combines the technical breadthand team-based learning found duringthe three semesters of in-house training,known as Technical DevelopmentCurriculum (TDC).TDC is instructed by BAE Systemssubject-matter experts and coversa wide range of Engineering topics,Engineering domains and related topicsintended to provide participants withthe knowledge and training requiredto take on leadership positions in theorganization.During TDC, cross-functional teamssolve weekly homework problemstogether, and an individual or groupreport is submitted. Homeworkassignments are designed to take thecourse content and apply it to realworld applications commonly seen atBAE Systems. In addition to learning thematerial presented during TDC, otherobjectives of TDC include exposing theparticipants to BAE Systems subjectmatter experts and building teamworkand communication skills.Graduate degreeAfter completion of the first year ofin-house training, it is expected thatcandidates enroll in and graduateEngineering domains covered includefrom a master’s-level technical degreemulti-week modules of the Engineeringprogram. Candidates entering thedisciplines including Software, Electrical,ELDP with a technical master’s degreeMechanical and Systems Engineering,are not required to pursue a secondas well as domains pertinent to the localmaster’s degree. The Engineeringlines of business including Electronicmaster’s degree programs at partneringWarfare, Engine Controls, Hybridinstitutions are designed to provideElectric Systems, Antenna Theory, andtechnical depth and expertise in anInfrared Systems.Engineering area of interest to theOther related topics covered in the TDC student aligned with BAE Systems’curriculum are project managementcurrent and future business needs.principles, business development, leansix sigma, and government relations.BAE Systems ELDP

9Work rotationsELDP participants have the ability tochart their own technical paths forthree years, seeking career advice frommanagers, professors, mentors, andpeers. They can find or create a rotationthrough discussion with a manager orteam leader on a particular program,technical area of interest, or searchfor an exciting rotation posted on theinternal ELDP website.There is also support from the ELDPcoordinator to help identify rotations toenhance each individual’s skill set.BAE Systems ELDPParticipants complete a minimum ofthree rotational assignments withinthree years. These rotations build on thefoundations already acquired in college.Participants develop new skill sets, andbenefit from exposure to differentprograms and Engineering disciplinesacross Electronic Systems.Rotational assignments can includeopportunities to work across differentlocations and business areas, workingin small and large teams, and gainingpractical industry experience in severaltechnical areas of special interest to theparticipant.

10Leadership trainingIn addition to building a foundation ofEngineering excellence, an objectiveof the Engineering LeadershipDevelopment Program is to facilitatethe growth of an individual’s leadershipskills. Through leadership training andactivities, participants:Through team projects, ropescourses, adventure activities,and other leadership workshops,participants focus on three main areas:teamwork, personal effectivenessand development, and leadershipdevelopment.Other leadership trainingELDP participants receive training onPractice group and teamwork skillsemotional intelligence, teamwork, Learn about their own communication personal effectiveness, partnering,and leadership stylescommunication, and effectiveleadership. 11Program completionGraduation from the EngineeringLeadership Development Program isan achievement held in high esteem.Upon successful completion of theprogram, participants select longerterm positions within the Engineeringorganization. These positions reflect theinterests and abilities demonstrated bythe participants during the program.Defense ELDPBAE Systems ELDPOpportunities for challenging workassignments and excellent careergrowth are readily available to ELDPgraduates.Graduates are paired with higher-levelmanagement in a mentoring programand become strong leadership resourcesfor the program. Alumni are included inELDP events.
