Rain andthunderstorms threatened in the morning, but itwas an overall good day by all who attended.There was great success in the Novice Ring,where Mrs V Gresser and her Aussie ShepherdRozate Blade Runner CCD RE won the ring andthe President’s trophy for highest scoring dog orbitch at the trial with a score of 199 out of apossible 200 points!Congratulations to those who had success at thetrial and commiserations to those who missedout. A big thank you goes to our Trial SecretaryJulie Brandon, Chief Steward Heather Martyn,Lodi Kramer and Jason Lau for the catering andall our judges, stewards and helpers on the day.2

Our committeeand helpers are busy organising this year’s event,which will be held on Saturday 5th October. A specialthank you to our Trial Secretary Julie Brandon, ourChief Steward Heather Martyn, Leonie Kelly and allClub members who have offered their time to help onthe day. Best of luck to all our members who will becompeting in this year’s event.It’s a privilege to present the President's report for2019.The Club van is now well and truly integrated into therunning of the club on Sunday mornings. Specialthanks go to Robert Fairhead for taking the Van duringthe break for servicing and rego, and to the drivers andhelpers who unpack and load the van. I would also liketo thank Centennial parklands for not only allowing usto house the club van safely in their compound, butalso allowing us to run classes here on Sundaymornings and keeping our ground fees low.It has been another busy year and the club hassuccessfully run about 13 classes every Sunday, frompuppies through to Class 4, including obedience andActivity class. We’ve also managed to maintain asteady stream of new members wanting to participatein our popular RDO and puppy programs. I would liketo thank all instructors and trainee instructors who givetheir time freely to run these classes, and to thehelpers who look after the desk and set up equipmentfor all our members.We recently managed to secure a storage unit at areduced rate, which will now allow us to safely store inone place our club archives, memorabilia and unusedequipment. This will ease the burden for those currentclub members who have been housing these items intheir garages for many years. I would like to thank JanCooke for sourcing and organising the unit, LodiKramer for donating shelving in memory of his dogNeo, and I sincerely thank the club members past andpresent for keeping these items safe for us.At last year’s fun day, we managed to raise over 600for Canine cancer research. I would like to thankSandra Walker for suggesting we donate to such aworthy cause, and those who donated prizes andhelped sell raffle tickets on that day. I hope wemanage to raise even more money at this year’s funday event.I would now like to acknowledge the hard work and thecommitment of three committee members that arestepping down this year. Our current treasurer SherlynKoo, publicity officer Robert Fairhead and generalcommittee member Jan Evans. Thank you for youryears on the committee, and the valuable support youhave given me and other members at the club. Yourcontribution to committee will be sorely missed!Late last year the Club sponsored a Delta therapy Dogteam on behalf of a club member. The team who wecurrently sponsor is one of our own members, JulieBrandon and her dog Lucy. I would like to take thisopportunity to sincerely thank the member whosponsored the past and current teams in the club'sname. This generous gesture will allow those whohave no access or interaction to animals a moment ofhappiness while in hospital or living in a nursing home.Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for allowing methe honour of being your president for the past 3 years.I found it challenging but also rewarding, and I haveconfidence that the incoming president will be forwardthinking and embrace any positive change that willbenefit the club. I also look forward to working with theincoming committee and serving the club as your nexttreasurer.Last year we also raised 550 for the “Buy a bale”campaign at our Annual obedience trial. Whist it is quite a distance to travel I wouldencourage members to make the trip to see what ispossible for dogs to achieve with persistent training.Membership as of the 1st September stands at 345 ofwhich 19 are Life Members, 109 are renewals and 217new members.The club’s trialling tradition has continued withmembers Club members participated in the InterclubObedience Challenge in July this year with a few fromClass 4 trialling their dogs for the first time in theCommunity Companion Dog Class which is the first ofthe obedience titles. The clubs’ annual trial will be heldon Saturday 5th October as part of the NSW StateObedience Titles at the German Shepherd Grounds ofLastly one of our Life Members, Grahame Brown, hasnow stopped attending stamp auctions where he soldthe used stamps, donated by members, with theproceeds going to the Guide Dog Association. Any dogthat is so drunk that it can’t stand up must betaken to the vet!All close relatives of the onion family (shallots,garlic, scallions, etc) contain compounds that candamage dogs’ red blood cells if eaten in sufficientquantities. The rule of thumb is “the stronger it is,the more toxic it is”. Garlic tends to be more toxicthan onions. While dogs may be able to tolerate asmall amount of these vegetables, exposure toconcentrated forms such as onion soup mixpowder or garlic powder puts them at risk topoisoning. The damage to red blood cells doesn’tbecome apparent for about 3 to 5 days. Affecteddogs appear weak or reluctant to move. They mayappear to tire easily. Their urine may be orangetinged to dark red in colour. In severe cases, bloodtransfusions may be needed.Grapes and RaisinsGrapes and raisins have recently been associatedwith kidney failure in dogs. The exact cause is notclear. Some dogs can appear to eat a few withoutproblems, others do so for a while only to becomevery ill later on. Signs of grape and raisin toxicityare vomiting, lethargy or diarrhoea within 12 hoursof eating. As the dogs becomes more ill, there canbe an increase in urination or no urination in laterstages. Death due to kidney failure occurs after 3 Xylitolor 4 days.Xylitol is a calorie-free sweetener that is used insugar-free gum as well as sugar-free bakedgoods. In dogs, xylitol can lead to a rapid andsevere drop in blood sugar levels. This campaignis run by Yellow Dog Australia and is aimed at educating dog fanciers and thegeneral public about the meaning of a yellow bandana, yellow ribbon or yellowvest to help assist dogs that need more space from time to time.By using a yellow bandana, fellow club members will understand that your dog may require morespace when you train at the club on Sunday mornings. You can purchase a bandana for 15 at theinformation desk on Sunday mornings by asking one of our helpful volunteers who will advise you onsize and how to attach the bandana to your dog’s collar.Aggressive Dog ProcedureWith the aim of providing asafe training environment for all dogs andToo Wet Or Hot To Train ?If you wake to a wet or threatening Sunday orthe temperature soars beyond 30 Degrees,then check our Facebook page or call the Clubfor a status update on 0412 645 154 after7:30am.
