Keller ISD220907ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTCLASS RANKINGEIC(LOCAL)Note:CalculationThe following provisions shall apply to students in thegraduating classes of 2020 and 2021 (students who entered grade 9 in the 2017–18 school year or prior).The District shall apply the same class rank calculation methodand rules for local graduation honors for all students in a graduating class, regardless of the school year in which a student firstearned high school credit.The District shall include in the calculation of class rank gradesearned in all high school credit courses taken in grades 9–12, unless excluded below.Calculations shall include semester grades earned in District virtuallearning courses and the Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN),but no other virtual learning courses.ExclusionsThe calculation of grade point average (GPA) shall exclude gradesearned through: Correspondence courses; Credit recovery programs; Dual credit courses taken anywhere other than District highschools; Evening/night school; Local credit courses; Summer school courses; and Credit by examination, with or without prior instruction.GPA and Class RankWeighted GPA and class rank shall be calculated at the end ofeach semester and available to students upon written request. TheGPA and class rank are included on the transcript at the end ofeach semester.Top Ten PercentFor the purpose of applications to institutions of higher education,the District shall calculate class rank as required by state law. TheDistrict’s eligibility criteria for local graduation honors shall applyonly for local recognitions and shall not restrict class rank for thepurpose of automatic admission under state law. Keller ISD220907ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTCLASS RANKINGEIC(LOCAL)class within the current school year in order to maintain accurateranks.For StudentsEntering Grade 9 inthe 2017–18 SchoolYearBeginning with students entering grade 9 in the 2017–18 schoolyear, for the purpose of determining honors to be conferred duringgraduation activities, the District shall calculate class rank basedon the cumulative GPA through the first semester of the senioryear.For Students inGrade 9 Prior to the2017-18 SchoolYearBeginning with students who entered Grade 9 prior to the 2017–18school year, for the purpose of determining honors to be conferredduring graduation activities, the District shall calculate class rank atthe end of the third nine-week grading period of the senior year.The third nine-week grade shall be used as the semester grade forthis purpose.Valedictorian andSalutatorianThe valedictorian and salutatorian shall be the eligible studentswith the highest and second-highest rank, respectively. To be eligible for such recognition, a student must:Breaking Ties1.Have been continuously enrolled in the same high school inthe District for three terms (a term is equivalent to 18 weeks)immediately preceding graduation for students transferringfrom out of District or four terms immediately preceding graduation for students transferring from another high schoolwithin the District;2.Have completed the foundation high school program with atleast one endorsement for graduation and a distinguishedlevel of achievement; and3.Be graduating after exactly eight semesters of enrollment inhigh school.In case of a tie in weighted numerical grade averages or weightedGPA, the District shall compute the average to a sufficient numberof decimal places until the tie is broken.If the tie is not broken after applying this method, the District shallrecognize all students involved in the tie as sharing the honor andtitle.Honor GraduateRecognitionsDATE ISSUED: 5/8/2020LDU 2020.01EIC(LOCAL)-XThe District shall recognize at the graduation ceremony the top tenhighest-ranked academic students.4 of 10
