INTRODUCTIONLighthouse Christian Academybegan as Missionary AcceleratedChristian Education (M.A.C.E.) in 1978.The original purpose of the Academywas to allow missionaries to educatetheir children through a distancebased school. In 1984 the name waschanged to Living Heritage Academy(LHA), and the program was expandedto allow nonmissionary families whowere becoming a part of the growinghomeschool movement to takeadvantage of the Accelerated ChristianEducation (A.C.E. ) distance-learningprogram. On June 14, 1991, LHAhonored its graduating seniors withthe First Annual Graduation Ceremonyheld at LHA Corporate Offices inLewisville, Texas. At the beginningof the 2001-2002 school year, LHA’sname was changed to LighthouseChristian Academy (LCA) to reflect thenew mission of being a shining beaconto the world. TheAcademy hasfaithfully servedits families forover 35 years. There arecurrently over4,500 studentsin 62 countriesenrolled in LCA.The goal ofLCA is to serveas an extensionof the Bible-4 Lighthouse Christian Academybelieving Christian home and localchurch, working harmoniously withparents to achieve God’s purpose fortheir child. This training takes place atthree levels: what we say, what we do,and what we are.Successful Biblical trainingteaches the child to view life fromGod’s perspective and to build aChristian worldview (Proverbs 22:6;Deuteronomy 6:5-7). LCA operatesfor the purpose of providing dailyhomeschool instruction for childrenin all branches of knowledge from aGodly perspective with the objectiveof preparing them for a lifetime ofservice.LCA is the official distance-learningprovider for ACEM and exclusivelyuses the A.C.E. curriculum. In the1960s, many students were notperforming at their grade levels. Thisfact compelled many to question thevery structure of the conventional

educational system. To address theseconcerns, A.C.E. designed a Biblicallybased educational program gearedto meet the learning needs of theindividual child. This program consistsof self-instructional, Godly characterbuilding, individually prescribed,mastery-based curriculum andmaterial.Educational ConceptThe educational concept ofA.C.E. was built on five basic laws oflearning: The student must be placed on alevel of curriculum where he/shecan best perform. The student must set reasonableand appropriate goals that canbe achieved in a reasonable andprescribed period of time. The student must receivemotivation throughencouragement and support andachieve control through guidanceand discipline in order toassimilate, use, and experiencethe educational material. The student’s learning musthave appropriate measurementapplied to the results.AssuranceThe pioneering work of A.C.E.features a curriculum assuring parentsof: A solid, back-to-basicseducation for their children. A course of study individualizedto meet a child’s specific needsand learning capabilities. A program incorporating Godlycharacter-building and wisdomprinciples. From its beginning, A.C.E. has heldto these goals. One result is studentswho score significantly higher onnational standardized achievementtests than their counterparts inconventional schools. The student’s learning mustreceive recognition and reward forits value, effort, and significance.INTRODUCTION 5

Statement of FaithLighthouse Christian Academy isBiblical in its philosophy, objectives, and outreach. The LCA Statementof Faith is derived directly from thestandards and beliefs of A.C.E. Itcovers Biblical principles and truthsthat Bible believers accept andconsider essential. These principles offaith are so clear in Scripture that theirmeaning and understanding cannotbe questioned. LCA is committed tohelping you train your children in aBiblically consistent manner. We believe in: The plenary, verbal inspiration ofthe Bible, equally and in all partsand without error. The one God, eternally existentFather, Son, and Holy Spirit,Who created man by a direct, immediate act. The preexistence, incarnation, virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death, bodilyresurrection, ascension toHeaven, and Second Coming ofthe Lord Jesus Christ. The Fall of Man, the need forregeneration by the operation ofthe Holy Spirit through personalfaith in Jesus Christ as Saviouron the basis of grace alone, andthe resurrection of every personto either eternal life or eternaldamnation. The spiritual relationship of allBelievers in the Lord Jesus6 Lighthouse Christian AcademyChrist, living a life of righteousworks separated from the world, and witnessing of His savinggrace through the ministry of theHoly Spirit. The Biblical mandate of theGreat Commandment andthe Great Commission for allBelievers to proclaim the Gospeland to disciple all nations.Mission StatementThe Mission Statement ofLighthouse Christian Academy is: To provide Biblically based, individualized, self-instructionalcurriculum, involving diagnostictesting, goal setting, and masteryof subject content. To accomplish this in a learningenvironment with informed familymembers assisted by experiencedLCA advisors who supervisethe educational process andchallenge students to developa relationship with Jesus Christ, incorporating the character traitsof the Lord.

It is the purpose of LCA togive every distance-educationstudent the opportunity to knowJesus Christ as his or her Lord andSaviour and to receive an educationbased on a Biblical interpretationand philosophy of education. LCAfurther encourages every studentto dedicate his or her life to Christin Christian service. To that end,the A.C.E. curriculum encouragesstudents academically and spirituallyto exceed minimum requirementsfor graduation and to excel to amaximum individual potential, bothspiritually and academically.INTRODUCTION 7

Educational PhilosophyEvery person and every systemof education displays a particularunderstanding of reality that isreflected in its educational philosophy. The educational philosophy of theAccelerated Christian Educationcurriculum and program is distinctand clear in its beliefs. God is theauthoritative source for all knowledge;and He shapes the Christian’s viewof reality with regard to time, matter, and mankind. The Bible is the ultimateTruth and is the interpretive systemused in the A.C.E. curriculum tounderstand God, time, matter, andhumanity as given to us in the Bible.1. Every child is unique with vastpotential, but dependent onothers for spiritual, physical, mental, and behavioraldevelopment. Therefore, astudent who enrolls in LCAshould be educated as a wholechild and that education shouldbe based upon a Biblicalworldview.2. Education should be availableto all children. LCA willtherefore endeavor to expandits educational opportunitiesto parents and children of allabilities and all racial, economic, and cultural backgrounds whodesire this educational base andare willing to accept the school’sstandards.8 Lighthouse Christian Academy3. Every child develops at a unique, individual pace based uponhis or her developmental level, learning patterns, motivation, and academic potential. TheLCA program is designedand prescribed to assist eachstudent to achieve a personalrelationship with God throughJesus Christ, to develop aChristlike character, to lay astrong academic foundation, andto realize his optimum potentialfor maturation physically, spiritually, and mentally.School ColorsLCA’s school colors are royalblue, gold, and white. Biblically, bluerepresents the hope we have of thereturn of Jesus Christ. Gold signifiesthe glory of God and the might of Hispeople. White denotes the victory andtriumph the Believer has over sin anddeath.

School Verse“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is inheaven.”Matthew 5:16Testimonials“My daughter has always hada hard time in spelling. The firstfew Word Building PACEs were nodifferent. Due in great part to dyslexictendencies, they were very difficultfor her. On this last PACE, she earneda 100 percent on the Self Test! Oftenshe would misspell the words shegot right and spell correctly the onesshe missed in the PACE. With this100 percent, she was bubbling withlaughter. She said she had a secretso she could remember the correctspelling. She is finally finding ways tocompensate. I expect the future WordBuilding PACEs will become mucheasier for her.”C. Melton, ParentHondurasChrist and Saviour, whereas in publicschool you can’t even mention God,let alone talk about religion. I am trulyblessed to be continuing my educationin a homeschool program. I knowmy future will be better now that Iam attending Lighthouse ChristianAcademy.”D. Bridges, StudentIllinois“We have used LCA for four yearsnow. We have been blessed withfantastic advisors. They are as handson or off as you want them to be. Eachyear LCA has made improvements.I am very pleased with the changesmade due to accreditation. Thehandbook sent out this year givesvalidity to my school choice. TheCollege Preparatory AcademicProjection designed by my daughter’sadvisor is clear, and she knows whatis expected for graduation. I ampleased that my child’s diploma will beaccredited.”N. Gunter, ParentWest Virginia“It’s not very hard to distinguishthe qualities of homeschooling frompublic school. I know for a fact that I’mdoing better in LCA’s homeschoolingprogram than I was in public school.Academically, I was not challenged inpublic school, but in homeschoolingI am challenged and I am able toretain more information. I can literallygo at my own pace, so I can actuallycomprehend and learn what it is thatI’m studying. One huge differenceis that I can learn more about ourINTRODUCTION 9

“This is my first year in LighthouseChristian Academy, and let me tellyou how much I have improved—academically and spiritually. Before Iwas homeschooled, I didn’t get goodgrades, but now I’m passing. Myparents are really proud of me, and Idon’t get into any more trouble! Now Ihave a new perspective on school sothat I can succeed in the future.”J. Peterson, FreshmanIllinois“One of the things I really, reallyappreciate about A.C.E. is how itgradually becomes more challengingover time. It never throws a curveballat the child by suddenly expectinghim to do work at a much higherlevel. Because of that slow andsteady method, the child always feelscapable of the work and is able toprocess the information. A.C.E. hasbeen a blessing for my 9-year-old son10 Lighthouse Christian Academyespecially. He’s a reluctant reader, and yet he works confidently at gradelevel in his PACEs. He’s learned, andretained, so much grammar I canhardly believe it. I’m so glad I found aprogram that doesn’t overwhelm myson but makes him feel successful inlearning instead.”S. Miller, ParentTexas“I’ve really had an advantagebecause I’ve had to motivate myselfto do work instead of having a teacherstanding there telling me what to do.I had to have my own incentive to doit, just because I want to learn. I thinkI’m more mature. I think I am morecomfortable with who I am as a personthan most students my age because ofmy experiences with homeschooling.”S. McCullar, StudentMississippi
