His death rightly sparked peacefulprotests in Minneapolis and other cities.Unfortunately, leftist reactionaries, notwanting to let a tragedy go to waste, tookhold of the conversation and began theirassault on our neighborhoods. Democraticleaders in many of our cities have failed to deescalate theriots and looting in the hope that this disaster will succeed ingetting rid of Donald Trump. The timing is impeccable giventhe light that is now being shed on the prosecution of GeneralFlynn and the FBI’s FISA warrants and the resurgence of ourmarkets in the aftermath of Covid-19 restrictions. In the midst of all this chaos, the Covid-19 guidelines are stillin effect in Florida. In deference to Governor DeSantis’ planfor reopening our state, we will not have a Pinellas GOPmeeting in June. It would not look good for one of the biggestcounty parties in the state to go against the recommendations ofits own party leader in Tallahassee. The current plans are tohold the normally scheduled meeting on July 13. In themeantime, the PCREC office is open Monday through Fridayfrom 9 AM—4 PM. We have many excellent Republican candidateswho are in need of campaign assistance. Please use this timeto contact us for information about how you can help.I am happy to announce that the Pinellas County TrumpCampaign Headquarters will be housed in the Pinellas GOPoffice. The campaign is currently engaged in phone calling butwill be gearing up for a full range of campaign activities in thenext few weeks. 2020 has been a challenging year; however, its challenges only reinforce what we already know—the wayto guarantee a better future is to provide conservative, competent and ethical leaders to represent us in all levels ofour government. With your help, we can accomplish that goal!Todd A. Vice Chairman’s MessageNotes from thePCREC secretaryMemorial Day tribute Beyond the “stateto our fallen heroes of emergency”In a Memorial Day tribute to our fallen heroes, BoyScout troops traditionally decorate the over 30,000graves at Bay Pines National Cemetery by placingan American flag at each gravesite. Due to COVID-19concerns, this activity was not allowed this year.Fortunately, and in compliance with physical distancingrequirements, Pam Hinds, one of our PGOP DistrictLeaders and Photographer, organized volunteers todecorate the graves in order to respect our deceasedveterans and carry on the tradition. For three mornings, over 50 volunteers, includingmany members of our own Pinellas CountyRepublican Party, as well as members of theDAR, FBI Citizenry Academy, elected officialsand Congressman Bill Young’s wife, Beverly, andson, Patrick, were among many who gathered atBay Pines National Cemetery. While decoratingthe gravesites, we were heartened to be approachedby several families of the deceased who thankedus for honoring their loved ones. We thankedthem for the ultimate sacrifice their loved onesmade in order that we may continue to enjoy thefreedoms we have. In all, over 15,000 flags werepurchased and placed by patriotic volunteers. OnMemorial Day, most of the volunteers continuedto honor veterans by standing and waving flagsin front of the C.W. Bill Young Medical Center. On that day I was reminded of a quote by formerPresident Ronald Reagan:“Freedom is never more than one generationaway from extinction. We didn't pass it to ourchildren in the bloodstream. It must be foughtfor, protected and handed on for them to do thesame, or one day we will spend our sunset yearstelling our children andour children's childrenwhat it was once like inthe United States wheremen were free.”Truer words were neverspoken.—Pam McAloonPCREC Vice ChairAs a native of Florida, I am acquainted with S.O.S.distress calls, media warnings on tv screens andescaping in the rain for hurricane evacuation. Weknow that danger is coming. Nevertheless, resolveno matter what happens, we assess the damage, and we can build again.President Trump sounded the national alarm andexpediently began closing gateways into the U.S.to protect citizens from “the invisible enemy” (Covid19). While the U.S. House of Representatives wasseeking to impeach the President, the tentacles ofdeath had already stealthily reached our shores. On March 13, 2020, President Trump declared a“national emergency.” On April 7, 2020, GovernorDeSantis and 41 states issued “shelter at homeorders.” American citizens (94%) were undersome type of restriction to freedoms protected bythe Bill of Rights. So, when is the emergencyover? The U.S. Constitution does not provideemergency powers, not the termination. However,President Trump spoke of leveling the curve as theprimary measure of when the virtual shutdownwould be over. The right to work, travel, speak, worship andassemble are among the liberties at risk whenauthoritarian leaders extend emergency orders.Liberty cannot become a casualty. We are opening inFlorida after the President called for our nation toreopen. Each of us should be alarmed about powergrabs and attacks on the rights of citizens byDemocrat governors (from states like CA, MI, NJand NY). Each State decides the best process forits people. Yet, some are staying closed, arrestingcitizens and acting as lords over the people. Thosewho govern have an obligation to reduce risk but noteliminate all risk. Guidance, facts and evaluations areproper to prepare the citizenry for choices that willbenefit their families and communities. Beyond theemergency, SOVEREIGN PEOPLE CAN BE TRUSTEDto self-govern with moderate recommendations.—Sheila GriffinPCREC Secretary

Stay safe! Vote by mail!Supervisor of Elections’ open letter to all Pinellas County votersThere has been a lot of discussion latelyabout how secure it is to vote by mail. Iwant to dispel common myths aboutmail ballots, as it is paramount votershave accurate election information. Voterconfidence is essen al to a healthyrepresenta ve democracy. First, there is no evidence offraudulent use of mail ballots inPinellas County. Every voter who casts a mailballot must sign theircer ficate envelope. To verifythe iden ty of the voter, thesignature on that envelope iscompared to the voter’ssignature on file with myoffice. If the signature does notmatch, or the voter forgot tosign the envelope, the votermay submit a signed affidavitand copy of ID by the legaldeadline to prove his/heriden ty.Second, eligible mail ballots are alwayscounted. In fact, Florida law allowscanvassing boards to begintabula ng mail ballots 22 days priorto elec on day. So a(er 7 pm onElec on Day, the first results you seeon VotePinellas.com include par almail ballot results. We receive manymail ballots on elec on day, andthose are processed throughout theday and night. We con nue to postelec on results un l elec on nightresults are final, so the public is keptinformed and the process istransparent. All accepted mail ballotsare included in the final officialresults.Third, vo ng by mail is as secure asvoting at the polls. And, it is certainlymore convenient. Beginning with the 2020 Primary, return postage will be paid. Voters who opt not to returntheir ballots by mail areencouraged to use one of our20 remote ballot drop-offloca ons. These loca ons arestrategically placed around thecounty. All voters are withinthree miles of the nearest drop-off loca on. All remote ballotdrop-off loca ons are staffedby depu zed elec on employees. There are rigorous auditand chain of custody procedures in place to protect yourvote. Voters may also choose todrop off their ballot at one ofour three elec on offices. No ma3er how you get yourballot back to us, just makesure we have it by 7 pmElec on Day. By law, ballotsreceived a(er this deadlinecannot counted. Finally, if you decide to vote by mail– and I hope you do – know that youcan track your mail ballot on ourwebsite at VotePinellas.com. There, you can see the status of your mailballot. Our website will show youwhen your ballot was “Sent” toyou, when it was “Received forProcessing” by us, and a(erElec on Day it will be markedas “Counted” or “Not Counted.” If there is any problem withyour ballot or we cannot verifyyour iden ty, our website willshow your ballot as “RequiresAc on.” This prompt includesways for you to contact myoffice. Our elections are open and transparent. All Canvassing Board ac vi es,including the tes ng of vo ngequipment, the tabula on of mailballots, recounts, post-elec onaudits are open to the public.Pinellas County Supervisor of ElectionsJulie MarcusOver the next six months, there will belots of unofficial elec on informa onthat may call into ques on the securityof elec ons. I’m concerned this will havea nega ve impact on voter turnout.Vo ng is a fundamental right many havefought for and died to protect. As a voterand as an elec on administrator for 17years, my right to vote is as sacred to meas your right to vote. I proudly standbehind our procedures to provide accessto voter registra on and ballots, whilemaintaining the integrity of the process.Vo ng by mail is a secure, convenientop on to cast a ballot. As a community,we need to do everything we can to keepeach other safe during this pandemic. Doyour part. Stay safe.
