PresentersCharrita Ernewein, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, SANE-A is a family nurse practitioner whospecializes in acute care and pediatrics in the Hillsborough County School District. Dr. Ernewein alsoworks for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Dr. Erneweincompleted her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in1988, her Master of Science at South University in 2013 and her Doctoral Nurse Practitioner in 2016at South University in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Ernewein is currently enrolled full time at University ofCentral Florida in the PhD program. Dr. Ernewein holds a national certification with the AmericanAcademy of Nurse Practitioners and a certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.Dr. Ernewein is a strong advocate within the community working closely with professional organizations andcommunity resources regarding the topics of human trafficking and vulnerable populations. As a part of the TampaSpeakers Bureau, Dr. Ernewein worked closely with the department of homeland security to develop and implement atraining for healthcare providers within the community. Dr. Ernewein remains actively engaged in several communityorganizations such as the FREE Network and University of Central Florida Human Trafficking Awareness Group.Dr. Ernewein is the President of the Tampa Bay Advanced Practice Nurse Council Group, a member of AmericanAcademy of Nurse Practitioner, a member of the American Nurses Association, and a member of the National Associationof School Nurses.Teshamae Monteith, MD, FAHS is an Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at theUniversity of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. After graduating with a medical degree from theMiller School of Medicine, Dr. Monteith completed a neurology residency at New York Universityand pursued two fellowships in headache medicine at Thomas Jefferson University and theUniversity of California, San Francisco. She is currently the Chief of the Headache Division andDirector of the Headache Fellowship.Dr. Monteith is a recipient of the American Academy of Neurology’s (AAN) PalatucciAdvocacy Leadership Award and the American Headache Society’s Wolff Award. She is a highlyregarded lecturer, author of numerous publications, and has served on a number of advisoryboards, including industry boards and for the AAN’s Brain and Life magazine. She conducts a number of clinical trials inthe management of headache and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute ofNeurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) to promote diversity in health-related research and work in migraine, stroke,and imaging biomarkers. She is the Chair of the American Academy of Pain Medicine Foundation’s workgroup for“Guidelines on Preventive Multidisciplinary Management of Migraine.”Edward Briggs, MS, DNP, APRNis a family nurse practitioner for the VeteransAdministration Bay Pines Florida and is on the Keiser University College of Nursing Faculty. Dr.Briggs received his Bachelors in Nursing and Master of Science from the University of SouthFlorida. He received his Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Florida.Dr. Briggs is dedicated to advancing the role of nursing in Florida. He is a staunchadvocate for nursing and has served Florida nurses in many roles including as a board memberof the Florida Nurses Association and the Florida Nurses Foundation. He is also a member andformer co-chair of the Florida Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses, a member of the FloridaNurse Practitioner Network, and a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. He believes that bringingnurses together to advocate for their patients and their profession will advance nursing and improve healthcare outcomesfor all Florida Citizens.

Course DescriptionsHuman Trafficking Education for Healthcare ProvidersHealthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to be assess the signs of human trafficking and potentially identifyvictims. As of 2018, all Registered Nurses are required to have 2.0 hours of education on human trafficking. Thiscourse will outline the types of human trafficking, assess the factors that place a person at risk, describe the signs ofpotential abuse, and provide resources available for reporting suspected cases of human trafficking.This course has been approved for 2.0 Nurse Contact Hours through the Florida Nurses Association (FL Provider #503103).New Therapeutic Options for Migraines: The Role of Nurse Practitioners in PatientManagementResearch has led to an improved understanding of the pathophysiology of migraine, as well as the subsequentdevelopment of therapeutic agents shown to improve the prevention and management of the condition. Elucidatingthe role of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the development of migraine (in particular chronic migraine)can aid clinicians in improving the management of their patients and optimizing outcomes.This CME activity, New Therapeutic Options for Migraine: The Role of Nurse Practitioners in Patient Management,will address the integral role of nurse practitioners (NPs) in migraine management, review current evidence in thediagnosis and treatment of migraine, describe the role of CGRP in migraine pathophysiology, and examine the roleand placement of newly approved CGRP-targeted therapies.This activity is approved for 1.0 contact hour(s) of continuing education (which includes 0.5 hours of pharmacology)by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner is required by the FL Board of Nursing to take a 3 hour continuingeducation course in “The Safe and Effective Prescription of Controlled Substances.” This Webinar will train the FLARNP to identify FL and national legislative requirements relating to the prescribing of controlled substances. TheFL ARNP will be able to implement patient assessment strategies including tools to assess risk of abuse, misuse, oraddiction when prescribing opioids. The FL ARNP will be able to identify alternatives and adjuncts to opioidanalgesics for acute and chronic pain control measures.
