WelcomeIn 1915, concerned leaders in our community organized to coordinatethe relief activities of all service organizations in existence in the Jewishcommunity at the time and established an organization whose mission wasof a philanthropic and charitable purpose and to improve the quality of life forindividuals and families in the Jewish and general community. This continues tobe the mission of Jewish Family Service (JFS) today and our work still embodiesthis philosophy.Tonight we welcome you to our Inaugural Community Matters Event whichcelebrates the mission and vision of our organization. JFS continues tostrive to meet the needs of the community. Today hundreds of people turnto JFS every year to achieve well-being, health and stability. Clients come toour agency from multiple sources such as schools, physicians, psychiatrists,community mental health centers, the court system and from other clientswho have benefitted from our services. JFS addresses the clients concernsand collaborates with our community partners and funding sources to achievethe desired outcomes and improve family functioning.Jewish Family Service of Northeastern Pennsylvania is one of the primaryhuman service agencies in northeastern Pennsylvania whose mission seeks toenhance and strengthen the quality of individual, family and community life forall people in need and has been helping to make a positive difference servingboth the Jewish and the broader community for over a century. We’re all in thistogether as we continue to help those in need, receive the help they deserve.JFS sits on the shoulders of many and with your support we can continueto make a positive difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors. Provide remedial and rehabilitative services toindividuals and families whose healthy functioningis being threatened or already deteriorating. Promote and preserve the dignity, self-respectand independence of the individual to the fullestextent possible.
Our 2016 Community Recognition Eventhonorees are former Scranton MayorJim and Susie Blum Connors.Jim served as Mayor of Scranton from1990 – 2002, Susie was an educator in theScranton school district for over 30 years andformer Board President of JFS.Jim and Susie both currently serve on theJFS Board of Directors.
