The aim of this course is to introduce students from across JGU schools to ways of understanding the concept of'development' and how it is related to human rights. Students will be exposed to a diversity of ideas from economic, publicpolicy, and legal spheres to encourage their appreciation of how complex can be the relationship of human rights todevelopment . The readingsassigned for the course will introduce students to different public policy options and approaches, combining economic andlegal analysis with political and philosophical perspectives.Thematic Areas in the CourseThe first week of the course will explore conceptual issues relating to the meaning of human rights and development, usingperspectives from theory and praxis.
