Brochure Gamification within Saba CloudGamification within Saba CloudLearning professionals have known for a long time that activities that stimulatepractice and interactivity among learners result in much more effective programs. The challenge has been the time and effort it took to assemble and integrate toolsthat could help.Saba Cloud is a complete, fully unified talent management suite, including a robustlearning management solution that’s built on a foundation of collaboration andintelligence. To make learning more engaging and impactful, Saba Cloud hasincorporated a number of gaming elements right into the solution. Gaming elementssuch as competition, achievement, recognition, and rewards can not only capturethe attention of employees, but encourage their continued participation in the desiredactivity — perhaps sharing their own insights across a community of practice, takingmore training classes to achieve leadership status, or recognizing peers for a jobwell done. Saba Cloud enables gamification in a variety of ways, as described below.Activity FeedAs soon as they log in, users will see the activity feed, which is personalized to eachindividual within the organization, instantly displaying relevant insights that will drivecommunication, positive behavior, and friendly competition. The activity feed updates continuously, and employees can choose to filter contentby author, keyword, and content type to quickly find what they need. They can sharethoughts, ideas, links, and other content, as well as comment, rate and “like”any feed item.Enable a continuous stream of insights and sharing with the activity feed2

BadgesAs employees complete assigned learning, they will earn badges and be publiclyacknowledged for doing so. Badges provide a sense of reward for employeescontinually working toward their development goals, and are socialized on the activityfeed to enable a bit of friendly competition between peers.Provide a sense of reward for accomplishments with badgesImpressionsImpressions are a form of recognition that are shared or socialized throughoutthe company. Employees enter positive feedback for their peers, and thecomments are seen in the activity feed where all have access, and reflected ontheir profile. Organizations can foster an environment of positive feedback andfriendly competition as employees compete to receive the greatest numberof impressions. Some organizations may take it a step further and providerewards — for example, running quarterly meetings in which those with the greatestnumber of impressions receive a prize. At the same time, additional constructivefeedback can be provided privately, only for the eyes of the recipient (e.g. “You couldbe even better if . “), ensuring that more specific feedback can be shared alongsidepositive, public praise.3

Brochure Gamification within Saba CloudEnable peer recognition with public impressions as well as private feedbackpQ ScoreThe pQ, or “People Quotient” score, ranks the contributions made by employees, andawards points based on not just the content shared, but how many individuals foundit useful by viewing it, commenting on it or rating it highly. Leverage pQ scoring toencourage healthy competition across employees to not only share content, but sharecontent that is helpful across the organization.Compete for the highest pQ score by sharing relevant, valuable insights4

Leader BoardsKeep everyone engaged by recognizing their efforts publicly with leader boards.Employees can watch the leader board from a widget on their personalized homepage, and track their activities versus others. pQ leaders, as well as top contributorsof content and insights show up on the board, and can be followed at the click of abutton to ensure their insights are received.Monitor pQ score and contribution rankings on the public leader board5

The Saba assessment features will help youaccurately measure learner progress and program effectiveness, while introducinga variety of question types for a more interactive and memorable experience forlearners. In addition to true/false, multiple choice, essay, and fill in the blank, moreinteractive types can be added. Matching questions can be added for a drag anddrop experience. Hot spot questions can be added on top of imagery to enablequestions like “Indicate the typical failure point in this machine.” Hints and timelimits can also be added to make questions easier or more challenging.Leverage hot spot and matching questions to makeassessment more engaging6

Gamification in Virtual ClassroomsThe key to an effective virtual class is getting the learners to participate and do morethan simply watch what’s happening on the screen. A number of activities can berun through Saba Meeting (the web conferencing solution for virtual classrooms, meetings, and webinars, embedded throughout Saba Cloud), to enable interactivity.Leverage emoticons, polls, whiteboarding, and more to enable gamesand interactivityCommon tools to use are polls to test knowledge or survey the audience, or chatto solicit feedback, enable discussion, and exchange insights. But trainers can alsoleverage features such as emoticons and whiteboarding for games. For example, questions can be posed and the first person (or team member) to raise their hand cananswer it. Points can be given for yes/no questions leveraging green checks or red“x” emoticons. Whiteboarding rights can be given to all students or a few individualsto enable a variety of games. An example might be a contest to see who can mostquickly identify a set of items on the screen and mark them all with a star — suchas which gauges do you need to view constantly while operating a machine.IdeationSaba’s ideation capability provides a powerful wayto cultivate and refine ideas to solve problems, drive innovation, prioritize projects and more.Employees can share ideas with others as easilyas sharing a note or content in the activityfeed. Once posted, ideas can be viewed by all,and voted up or down, enabling the best ideas torise to the top.Cultivate, vote on, and refine ideas to driveOthers can also comment on the idea, and maybe innovation, problem solving, and moresuggest an even better solution. Winning ideascan spur awards and recognition as well, introducing a more competitive spin to it.7
