TheLouisiana State Bar Association is proud to offer this event online and free to Louisiana civillegal aid attorneys. This is a time to focus on supporting access to justice through training,networking, and collaborations.This year’s theme is Mindful Lawyering – focused on mental health and wellness of theattorneys and clients in the access to justice community. During this year’s conference,expect educational programming that promotes the well-being of the civil legal aidcommunity and supports clients with legal care during uncertain times in the face of naturaldisasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also be a time of celebration, as we recognizethe outstanding work of our public interest peers at the sixth annual Civil Legal Aid AwardsCeremony.We are also excited to also introduce Justice Fridays in the weeks following theconference, where public interest focused online trainings will continue and be providedthroughout the year. Her company, History MattersInstitute, specializes in using history to helppeople better understand the present with agoal of creating understanding, introspection,and change. She presents history filled eo grew up in the Louisiana delta town of Lake Providence where her parents’involvement in a federal voting rights case exposed her to many years of death threats,cross burnings, and other random acts of terror. Her parents’ fight to gain voting rights forAfrican Americans after 80 years of disenfranchisement, along with almost 100 years ofrural Louisiana history, is chronicled in Cleo’s first book Witness to the Truth (University ofSouth Carolina Press), a Ouachita Parish River Reads selection. Anello, afederal district court judge in the Southern District of California. She then practiced civillitigation at the Procopio law firm in San Diego for five years before launching Free to Thrivein 2017.Jamie was the 2016 to 2017 President of Lawyers Club of San Diego and founded theLawyers Club Human Trafficking Collaborative. She also serves on the Dean’s Advisoryboard of the University of San Diego Kroc School of Peace Studies. She has trained over1,000 attorneys, social services providers, criminal justice partners and communitymembers throughout the United States on human trafficking and trauma-informedpractices.Point Loma Nazarene University recognized Jamie’s contribution to the fight against humantrafficking, awarding her its inaugural 2016 Hope Rising Award. He isa graduate of Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and spent his first five yearspracticing law at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in the Homeless Advocacy Unit. Hethen went on to work for Binder & Binder as a traveling attorney throughout the US, butmainly the Southeast, representing clients in Social Security Disability cases. He thenworked as a self-employed attorney contracting with other firms and companies. He hasrepresented clients in Social Security Administrative Law Judge hearings in over 20 statesin his travels. For the last three years he has been employed at CrescentCare LegalServices with primary focus on Social Security Disability Benefits.H. Minor Pipes, III is a founding member of Pipes Miles Beckman, LLC. He providescounsel in insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, construction law, general litigation,corporate litigation, and class actions. Since being admitted to the Bar, Minor has triednumerous cases to decision, in both state and federal courts. Minor was the lead negotiatorfor defendants in the global settlements of a national class action involving eight hundredsettling defendants — the matter of In re: Chinese Manufactured Drywall Products LiabilityLitigation (E.D. He is also a recent past president of the New Orleans Bar Association andcurrent president of the New Orleans Bar Association’s Inn of Court. Chris Ralston hasbeen installed as president of the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF). Chris has served onLBF’s Board of Directors since 2014.Michael B. Victorian practices in the areas of labor and employment and commerciallitigation. His employment litigation practice involves representation of employers in allaspects of litigation and administrative proceedings involving claims of discrimination,harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, family and medical leave, fair labor standardsand wage and hour disputes. Michael's commercial litigation practice involves representingclients in education and health care.He represents clients in federal and state litigation, as well as in administrative proceedingsbefore the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Professor Wallace joined the law faculty in 2002 after practicing at the NewOrleans firm of Correro Fishman Haygood Phelps Walmsley & Casteix (now FishmanHaygood et al). Professor Wallace graduated first in her class at Loyola College of Law andwhile attending law school, served on the Law Review and as Chairman of the Moot CourtProgram. After graduation, Professor Wallace served as a law clerk for Hon. Jacques L.Wiener, Jr. of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Hon. Barry Ted Moskowitzof the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.Professor Wallace is a frequent speaker and author in the areas of family law, successions,donations and trusts, and community property, all of which she teaches at the College ofLaw. She also lectures on Family Law for Barbri nationally. Professor Wallace designed,developed, and fundraised for the Loyola Advocacy Center, over which she served asDirector at its inception. She is also an active member of many professional organizations,including the Louisiana Bar Association, the Louisiana Law Institute, and the St. ThomasMore Inn of Court, and she is an active Fellow for Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers and theLouisiana Bar Foundation.
