by GloriaCopelandGod’sSimplePlanONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE ABOUT GOD IS HOW SIMPLE HE MAKES THINGSFOR US. UNLIKE THE WORLD, HE DOESN’T CONFUSE US WITH A BUNCH OFDIFFERENT, AND SOMETIMES CONTRADICTORY, STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS.FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE BIBLE TO THE END HE CONSISTENTLY TELLS USTO SIMPLY HEAR WHAT HE SAYS AND DO IT.If we will follow this one simple plan,He says, “Then thou shalt make thy wayprosperous, and then thou shalt have goodsuccess” (Joshua 1:8).We see this borne out all through theScriptures. Whenever God’s people listenedto and obeyed Him, He gave them victory. When they didn’t, He had to let them gotheir own way into failure and defeat.Think about Adam and Eve, for instance.God gave them just one command. He said,“Do not eat of the tree of the knowledgeof good and evil.” Can you imagine havingone “Do Not” in life, and then flunkingthe test? It sounds impossible, yet that’sexactly what Adam and Eve did. With allthe beautiful trees in the Garden that Godgave them to eat from, they chose to eatthe fruit of the one tree about which Godsaid, “In the day that you eat of it you shallsurely die” (Genesis 2:17, New King JamesVersion). They didn’t make that choice all on theirown, of course. They had a tempter. Whenhe showed up in the Garden, he beganquestioning God’s command and telling Evethat obeying it wasn’t in her best interest. She and Adam wouldn’t die if they ate ofthe forbidden tree, he said. Instead, “youreyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods”(Genesis 3:4-5).The truth was, Adam and Eve werealready like God. He’d made them as muchlike Himself as it was possible to makeB VOV :3

HE DESIRES.US TO TAKEAUTHORITY OVER THE DEVILAND DRIVE SIN, SICKNESS,POVERTY AND EVERY OTHERWORK OF SATAN OUT OFOUR LIVES.POINTS TOGET YOUTHERE:1Whenever God’s peoplelistened to and obeyedHim, He gave themvictory.(Deut. 28:1-2)2Whenever God’s peopledidn’t obey His Word,He had to let them gotheir own way intofailure and defeat.(Deut. 28:15)3God’s will forHis people has alwaysbeen for us to walk inHis blessing.(Deut. 5:29)4As believers we areset up for successbecause, unlike God’sold covenant people, through the new birthGod has given us aheartto obey Him.(Ezek. 36:26-27)5You can give as muchthought, study andattention to God’s Wordas you desire victory.(Mark 4:24, AMPC)4 : B VOVthem. What the tempter (aka the devil) toldEve was a lie.Lies are all the devil has. They’re all hehad in the Garden of Eden and they’re all hehas to use against us, as believers, today. Ifhe wants to defeat us, he has to come to us,much as he did Eve, and try to deceive us.He has to say things like, “You can’t believewhat God said about tithing. It won’t makeyou more prosperous, it will make you 10%poorer. You’d be better off keeping thatmoney for yourself.”Does the devil really talk like that to bornagain believers? you might wonder.Yes, he does. In fact, he lies more tobelievers than he does to unbelievers becausewe’re a threat to him. We have authority overhim through our union with Christ. As longas we’re walking in that union, the devil hasno power over us at all. To prevail over us hemust get us over onto his territory and gainentrance to our lives by convincing us todisbelieve and disobey God’s Word. That’s what happened with Adam andEve. The devil got access to them throughtheir disobedience. He separated themfrom God by getting them to disregard God’sWord, and as a result they had to leave theirperfect Garden. They had to go out on theirown into a world that had been cursed bytheir sin and try to get by the best they could. Was that God’s plan for them? No. His plan was for them to “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, andsubdue it: and have dominion” (Genesis1:28). His plan was for them to hear and dowhat He said so they could walk with Himin victory and be blessed.God didn’t change that plan just becauseAdam and Eve messed up, either. Godnever changes. So, He went to workputting His plan back in place. He raisedup another covenant people for Himselfthrough Abraham and gave them the samesimple success strategy He’d institutedin the Garden. He told them that if theywould hear and do what He said, He wouldmanifest Himself to them and give themvictory in every area of their lives.God’s Word God’s WisdomGod laid out this strategy for His peopletime and again in the Bible in hundredsof different ways. In Deuteronomy 4, forexample, after bringing the Israelites out ofEgypt, He said to them through Moses:Now listen and give heed, O Israel, to thestatutes and ordinances which I teach you,and do them, that you may live and go inand possess the land which the Lord, theGod of your fathers, gives you . Behold, Ihave taught you statutes and ordinancesas the Lord my God commanded me, thatyou should do them in the land which youare entering to possess. So keep them anddo them, for that is your wisdom and yourunderstanding in the sight of the peopleswho will say, Surely this great nation is awise and understanding people. For whatgreat nation is there who has a god so nearto them as the Lord our God is to us in allthings for which we call upon Him? (verses1, 5-7, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition).Notice, God didn’t give the IsraelitesHis commandments to make life hard forthem. He didn’t tell them how to live andwhat to do because He wanted to bossthem around and burden them with a lot ofunnecessary rules. God gave them His Wordto obey because His Word is His wisdom, and walking in God’s wisdom would makethe Israelites 100% victorious. It wouldenable them to defeat all their enemies; takepossession of everything God had provided

for them; put God’s greatness on display intheir lives so the nations around them couldsee His goodness and power; and live nearto God so that when they called on Him, Hecould hear and do for them what they asked.Wow! Talk about a wonderful way to live!Any one of those benefits should have beenenough to convince the Israelites to hearand do what God said. So, you’d think thatfrom then on, they would have followed Hisplan. But they didn’t.Instead, God would tell them over andover what to do, and they’d do somethingdifferent. They’d go their own way, get outfrom under God’s blessing and the cursewould come on them. Then the devil wouldstart stealing from them, killing them anddestroying them.Often, after living under the curse for awhile, the Israelites would turn back to God.When they did, because He’s so good andmerciful, He always took them back. Sadly, however, they kept repeating the cycle, which not only cost them but also grievedthe Lord: “O that there were such a heart inthem, that they would fear me, and keep allmy commandments always,” He said, “thatit might be well with them, and with theirchildren for ever!” (Deuteronomy 5:29).“But Gloria,” you might say, “the Israeliteswere living under the old covenant. Whatthey did doesn’t have anything to do withus as new covenant believers today.”Yes, it does. According to 1 Corinthians 10:11,the things the Israelites did under the oldcovenant were written for our benefit.Their mistakes were recorded to serve asexamples to us of what not to do. Granted,we have a lot of advantages today that theydidn’t have. We have a better covenantwith better promises, a covenant that’sestablished in Jesus’ precious blood. But asI said before, God’s plan hasn’t changed. His desire for us as His new covenantpeople is the same as it was for His oldcovenant people. He desires for us to livein victory. For us to take authority overthe devil and drive sin, sickness, povertyand every other work of Satan out of ourlives. God wants us to dwell in our newcovenant promised land, take possessionof everything that belongs to us in Christ, and walk in “the blessing of Abraham”(Galatians 3:14).What’s more, God’s plan is for us, likethe Israelites, to be billboards for Him. Hewants everyone around us to be able to seeHis blessing on us. He wants to be able tomanifest His power so fully in our lives thatit causes nations to tremble—to do so manygood things for us that people look at us andthink, I need to find out more about this Godthese Christians keep talking about!“He’s providedfor us everythingwe need not onlyto be blessed butto be a blessing.”B VOV :5

HEAR AND 4th Generation6 : B VOVtruth, and the truth shall make you free”(John 8:31-32).Simple as that is though, continuing inGod’s Word does take diligence. If you wantto live free from the curse you can’t justread your Bible occasionally, or when it’sconvenient. You must “hearken diligentlyunto the voice of the LORD thy God, toobserve and to do all his commandments,”because that’s what allows all His blessingsto come upon you and overtake you(Deuteronomy 28:1-2).To be diligent means “to make an intenseeffort.” If you’re too spiritually lazy to makean intense effort to spend time in God’sWord, you’ll be robbed of His blessingsbecause you’ll think like the world. It takes no effort at all to think like theworld does. The voice of the world is inyour ear constantly. You hear it on thestreets. You hear it when you turn on theTV (unless you’re watching a Christianprogram). You hear it on social media andother secular outlets, encouraging sinfulbehavior and telling you not to considermorality but to do whatever feels good. That kind of mindset is normal forthe world. But it’s not normal for you asa believer. Although you’re living in thisworld right now, you’re not of the world.Your “citizenship is in heaven” (John 17:16;Philippians 3:20). You’re a child of the livingGod and a soldier in Jesus’ victorious army, and you’re here on assignment. You’re onthis earth to advance the kingdom of Godand to occupy this place for Jesus until Hecomes again. This is why it’s so important for you tobe diligent to hearken to and obey God’sWord. There’s more at stake than yourown little life. As believers, we’re in a waragainst evil here. Satan knows that his time

is short and he’s working night and day toput people in bondage. We’ve got to get thegospel to them so they can be set free.“You are the salt of the earth,” Jesus said.“You are the light of the world” (Matthew5:13-14, NKJV). There may be darknesswhere you live, in your neighborhood oryour city, but if you follow God’s simpleplan of hearing and doing His Word, you’llbe light in that darkness. You’ll walk into aplace, and it won’t be dark there anymore. What an awesome privilege God hasgiven us, as believers! He’s provided forus everything we need not only to beblessed but to be a blessing. He’s called andequipped every one of us to preach and livethe gospel; to lay hands on the sick, cast outdevils and give glory to God!To walk in that kind of victory, though,we must do more than sit in church andjust take up space. We must give constantattention to God’s Word. We must keepplanting it in our hearts, speaking it out ourmouths and acting on it.Jesus said, “Be careful what you arehearing. The measure [of thought andstudy] you give [to the truth you hear] willbe the measure [of virtue and knowledge]that comes back to you—and more[besides] will be given to you who hear”(Mark 4:24, AMPC).You can give as much thought, study andattention to God’s Word as you desire victory. So go after it 100%. Commit completely tothe simple strategy God has given us. 1979HISTORIC MOMENT‘I WANT YOUTO STARTTEACHINGHEALING’JESUS ALWAYSCOMES TOHEALING SCHOOL!8 : B VOVEarly one summer morning in 1979, GloriaCopeland woke up and slipped out onto theback porch of the family’s cabin in southwestArkansas. While everyone else slept, she tookthe opportunity to pray.It was in those quiet moments alone withGod that Gloria remembered a prophecy shehad recently received. She was told that shewas about to hear from the Lord concerningsomething He wanted her to do.

Learnmore aboutHEALINGhere!Thinking about that prophecy, she spokefrom her heart and said, “Lord, You know I’lldo anything You want me to do. Just tell mewhat it is.”When she finished praying, Gloria wentinside to get ready for the day. A fewmoments later, God spoke to her and said, Iwant you to start teaching on healing in allthe meetings. In September 1979, three months after thatencounter with God, Kenneth and GloriaCopeland obeyed God by adding a HealingSchool to each of the meetings they hadscheduled for the rest of that year—andGloria began teaching on healing. It wasduring those meetings that the Lord alsoinstructed her to begin laying hands on thesick and praying for them. So she did.By the beginning of the next year, with afew meetings behind her, Gloria thoughtshe was finished. She had obeyed God,and thought she could stop now. But thenanother prophecy came—this time throughher husband—that made it clear to Gloriajust when God intended for Healing Schoolto end. The Lord said:I want My people well. I have desired forMy people to walk in health. I have desiredfor My people to know how to walk inhealth regardless of what ministry is intown. I want My people to know how totake My WORD, and stand on My WORD,and receive My healing power and knowthat I am The LORD. I want My people towalk with Me in health and life and knowthe good things that I have prepared forthem. I have set a table before you in thepresence of your enemies. You shall not bean orphan group. You shall not be hungry. You shall not be in want, for I am the GodProvider. I am The LORD God that healsyou. I will have My people well, saithGod. So My instruction to this ministryis: Continue this Healing School.until Ireturn.By that, it was clear to Gloria that the Lordnot only wanted her to preach healing, butthat He wanted her to preach it until Jesusreturns.Since Healing School began in September1979, every Believers’ Convention andVictory Campaign held by Kenneth CopelandMinistries has given our Partners andFriends an opportunity to receive God’sWord on divine healing and to apply it totheir lives. If you need healing in yourbody, look up the followingverses and read them alouddaily. Theywere looking for contestants who would bestrong in the talent portion of the competition.A classical pianist, Nancy played for all theschool choirs as well as other school events. She1 0 : B VOVwas also the organist at the Methodist Church.“Do you think Nancy would consider beinga contestant in the Miss Altus Pageant?” thedirector asked Nancy’s mother. Nancy agreedto compete—and won. Then, she’d gone on tocompete at the state level, and placed as firstrunner-up. A couple of years later, she again

competed and won Miss Oklahoma. From the moment Nancy was crownedMiss Oklahoma, her life radically changed.Serving as Miss Oklahoma was a full-timejob and had required her to drop out of college, where she’d been a piano performance major. She was provided with an apartment, a car anda chaperone. Her schedule for the year was set,and it was rigorous. Crisscrossing the state, she made multiple appearances every day. Sheonly got to go home to Altus to visit family afew times during the whole year. Yet Nancyloved every moment of the experience—fromthe travel, to meeting new people, to knowingthat her dad had become the most famousman in the café he frequented back home.Nancy was ecstatic that she would becompeting in the Miss America contest. So were the people of Altus. Along with herfamily, more than 100 residents traveledto Atlantic City to cheer her on. Nancy hadhoped to make it to the Top 10 finalists, whichshe did. She finished the competition as fourthrunner-up for Miss America.A Surprise DevelopmentNow, with the national competition over,Nancy’s responsibilities as Miss Oklahomahad also ended. It was time for a new chapterin her life. Only two things dimmed the joy shefelt about the future. One was the fact that,at 20 years old, Nancy suffered from severeback pain. Second, though Nancy knew it wasimportant that she marry the right person shehad somehow gotten out of the will of God.He’d let her know that after she accepted ayoung man’s marriage proposal. Nancy hadbroken off the engagement, but how was shesupposed to find the plan of God for her life?“After I’d broken that engagement, I lockedmyself up and prayed in the Holy Ghost forthree weeks, for hours a day,” Nancy recalls.“I read the Word and prayed, seeking God. Atthe end of those three weeks, I attended someservices where the wife of a local ministerinvited me to the back room. She wanted tointroduce me to someone. I went, and sheintroduced me to a man named Ed Dufresne. He’d been in ministry for 15 years and hadpastored for eight-and-a-half years.“Although our mutual friend keptencouraging Ed to call me, he didn’t. Itbothered him that he was 20 years older thanme. What he didn’t realize was that age didn’tbother me at all. When fulfilling my duties asMiss Oklahoma, I’d traveled with a companionmuch older than me. During that time, I wasoften around those who were older. I didn’tgive the situation much thought because I wastrusting God to get me where I needed to go.”Two weeks later, Nancy was visiting hersister in Texas when Ed called. “Tomorrow ismy birthday,” he explained. “I thought I’d fly toTexas to take you out to celebrate.”That didn’t sound good to Nancy. She didn’tknow him well and thought it might feelawkward.“Thank you,” she said, “but I don’t want yougoing to all that trouble. I’ll be back in Tulsanext week. Maybe we can get together then.”Leaving to go play tennis, Nancy stopped.Turning to her sister she said, “When he callsback to say he’s coming, come get me.” Fiveminutes after she arrived at the tennis court, her sister pulled up. “He’s coming tomorrow,”she said.On their first date, Ed said, “Did you knowthat in 10 years you’ll be in a wheelchair?”“No, but I’ve been having serious backtrouble.”READTHROUGHTHE BIBLEMAYOldTestamentSunNewTestament1 Ps. 56-59;Prov. 11:24-12:11Mon 2 Jdgs. 1:16-3:11John 18TueJdgs. 3:12-5:23John 19Wed 4 Jdgs. 5:24-7:14John 20Thu5Jdgs. 7:15-9:21John 21Fri6Jdgs. 9:22-11:11Acts 1Sat7Jdgs. 11:12-13:25Sun83Mon 9Ps. 60-63;Prov. 12:12-28Jdgs. 14:1-16:22Acts 2Tue 10 Jdgs. 16:23-18:31 Acts 3Wed 11 Jdgs. 19:1-20:35Acts 4Thu 12 Jdgs. 20:36-Ruth 1 Acts 5A Word From God“I’d never been on a date with anyone who’dhad a very accurate word of knowledge forme,” Nancy says. “It was about two years laterthat he again ministered to me about my backand it was healed. that Nancy whipped her head around to seewho had climbed into her car. No one else wasthere, yet the word still reverberated insideher two-seat Fiero. He’s going to be your husband. Why was she so shocked? Hadn’t she beenpraying about her future the previous threeweeks? She knew she’d heard from God. Edwas mature enough in the Lord that he knewhow to hear from God as well. That week, Ed flew to Europe for a preachingtour. Before he left, he said, “When I get back,I’m going to buy you a ring.” Nancy agreed. While in Europe Ed called and said, “When Iget home, I’m not just buying you a ring. We’regetting married.” Nancy agreed. On July 9, 1984, five weeks after they met,Ed and Nancy were married by the ministerwho introduced them.“Ed explained that he didn’t have the money. The Lord said, Sell your house. Ed listed hishome and it sold in one day. That conventionwas a turning point in his life. It was wherehe was first introduced to the ministries ofKenneth Hagin, John Osteen and KennethCopeland. It was the first time he’d ever seenanyone slain in the Spirit. It was also whereJesus walked in and put a tangible healinganointing in his hand.”Ed bought many of Brother Copeland’sreel-to-reel tapes, Nancy explained. Whenhe returned home, he locked himself awayand listened to the recordings day and night.“When he was invited to preach at a Biblestudy, he played one of Brother Copeland’stapes and then laid hands on the sick,” Nancysaid. “He did that until the day the Lord toldhim to leave his tape player at home. That dayhe started preaching.”Called To PastorDuring their time at the churchin Jenks, Ed was also very busywith his traveling ministry. Yet,when the Lord told them to leaveOklahoma and move to Californiaand plant a church there, theyobeyed. Nancy knew Ed wouldn’tpastor again. So she told him,“You need to get a pastor in here.”“You’re the pastor of this church,” Edreplied.“Oh, no, I’m not the pastor. God has nevertold me to pastor. I’ll preach until you getsomeone to do it.”They started World Harvest Church inTemecula, Calif., which adjoins Murrieta, butlater moved the church to Murrieta, where itis today.“Over the years, we had two sons, Stephenand Grant,” Nancy explains. “In church, Iplayed the organ and led praise and worship.I made the announcements and received theofferings. Then, I preached and greeted thepeople after church. I’d been preaching forfour years when God spoke to me and told meI was called to pastor. Ed was right, again.”In 2009, the Lord gave Nancy a prayerburden that lasted five months. During thattime, she prayed in the spirit for hours eachday, sensing that she was praying aboutsomeone close to death. He wanted me to pay attentionto my thought life and resist anythought that didn’t lead me into peace.Heaven on Earth“Being married to Ed was heaven onearth,” Nancy admits. “It was so easy forus. Having been raised in a denominationalchurch, though, I had some catching up to dospiritually. Ed stood in the office of a prophetand teacher. He taught me what I needed toknow. You might say that I married my Bibleschool.“Three years after we married, I waspreaching with him on the road. Duringthat time, we built a church outside of Tulsain Jenks, Okla. That’s where I got to knowKenneth Copeland, as Ed invited him to comeand minister sometimes.“Ed had first heard him preach in 1971 whenBrother Copeland was just getting started. At that time, Ed served at a local church inCalifornia. When someone handed him abrochure inviting him to the Full GospelBusiness Men’s World Convention to be heldin Denver, the Lord had told Ed to go.1 2 : B VOV

JOIN USIN TEACHINGBELIEVERSAdversaries at the DoorIn 2011, the Lord said, All I want you doing ispracticing peace.“He wanted me to pay attention to mythought life and resist any thought that didn’tlead me into peace,” Nancy explains. “I put aclose watch over my thought life and practicedstaying in peace every day. Doing that is reallya flow of walking in the spirit. I’d realized thatthe hardest times of my life had been eachtime the Lord promoted me. In 1 Corinthians16:9 Paul said, ‘A great and effective door hasopened to me, and there are many adversaries’(New King James Version).“When God gives you an open door ofministry, the devil doesn’t congratulate youand say, ‘Well done, go on through.’ No, thereare adversaries at the door. He opposes you.He bombards your mind with lies, sometimesto the point of mental torment.“The Lord taught me that there were threesteps to overcoming those thoughts. Thefirst step was to answer the thought with theWord of God. For instance, the lying thoughtmight be, ‘You’re going to get sick and dieprematurely.’ I’d respond by saying. ‘That’s notmy thought. Satan, you’re a liar. Jesus Himselftook my infirmities and bore my sickness. Iwill not get sick and die prematurely. Spirit offear, you’re the one that spoke that to me. Now,you leave.’ That’s the second step: Tell thespirit of fear that’s speaking to leave.“The final step was to praise and worshipGo
