Information on distinction standards can be found onpage 59.Stars worn on the left sleeve designate graduation with distinction: three stars indicate graduation with highestdistinction; two, with high distinction; and one, with distinction.Candidates graduating with honors in the major wear white cordons to mark their achievement. Candidatesgraduating with University Honors are recognized by a medal worn on a black and gold lanyard.Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious honor society for students in the College of Liberal Arts andSciences. To be elected to the society, students must meet membership stipulations, including and academicranking in the upper 10 percent of the senior class based on grade point average. Students graduating fromthe College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as members of Phi Beta Kappa wear pink and sky blue cordons torecognize their achievement.11
