August 2021GraceNo esTHE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF GRACEFrom the PastorBy Paul H. PingelPastor’s PageGrace’s StrategicPlanning Committeehas met a couple oftimes now, with ournext meeting inearly August. When one hearsthe words “strategic planning,” it’seasy to imagine the work is aboutassessing where are, and toenvision where God is leading us.And that’s true, the Committee’sgoal is starting to do that, with allof us together at Grace. However, what the StrategicPlanning Committee also realizedis that we have had a 400 day(pandemic) period where ourinteraction with one another hasbeen “virtual,” and “remote.”Yes, we have heard great storiesof Grace members checking inwith one another, stopping by,getting groceries, sending cards, phone calling, etc. But comingback together in-person is stilla relatively new thing. Havingthe time to be with one anotherin ways that allow for conversationand discussion are still in the “we’reseeing each other for the first timein awhile” – stage. The Committee recognized we needsome time to re-familiarize ourselveswith old friends and be introduced tonew friends. So throughout the restof this year (keeping in mind and insight the Covid virus) and into thenext, we’re going to offer some easyways for us to fellowship together, tosay hello again, to shake hands, tolaugh and to enjoy one another. Then, as we begin to have a few ofthese events under our belt, we’llbegin to ask some basic questions ofour life together as God’s people hereat Grace. Where are we now? Whathave you appreciated over the lastpandemic year? What are some ofyour hopes as we begin to come backtogether? Where have you seen Godat work and God’s Spirit guiding us?Sunday, August 29th, we areworshiping with our friends at St.James Lutheran at Barren RidgeWinery. It also gives us time to

enjoy the beautiful outdoors at BarrenRidge and have some good fellowshipover food and perhaps a glass of “wineto gladden the human heart.” (Psalm104:15).There’s an Ice Cream Social comingup in September sponsored by ourChildren and Youth team, gatheringunder the shade tree next to theplayground at Grace.Pandemic Memorial Service- During the Covid-19 Pandemicfrom March 2020 throughMarch 2021, eight (8) saints ofGrace entered into the eternalpromises of God. During thistime, we had only gravesideservices, many with familyonly. To give an opportunity forus at Grace to give thanks forthese saints and to giveopportunity for family andfriends to gather at Grace,we have scheduled theMemorial Service forSaturday, August 14th, at 1:00p.m. There will be a reception inthe Fellowship Hall followingthe service.Gathering for a hike, meeting insmall groups over dinner at a Gracemember’s home, maybe celebrateMartin Luther’s birthday These area few ideas over the next few monthsto remind, recover, renew the tiesthat bind our hearts in Christian love, and “grow and faith toward our Godand in fervent love for one another,”as one of the post-communionprayers of our Worship hymnal soeloquently says it. Then we’ll be ableto listen, speak and see more clearlywhat God has in mind for us,together.2
