Pastoral Notices Cont’d Condolence and Memorial Service for the Life of Brother RupertJohnsonThe Kencot SDA Church family regrets to announce the passing of BrotherRupert Johnson. He passed last Sabbath afternoon,May 22, 2021. Brother Johnson has been amember of Kencot for 27 years.Brother Johnson was an ordained deacon, amember of Deacon Michael Gordon’s SabbathSchool Action Unit, and an ardent participant in allthe activities of the Kencot Seniors Ministry.Notable about brother Johnson is that he attendedall church outings, all Seniors Ministry off-siterecreational activities, all funerals and all outreach ministry eventsconducted by the Church. He was quiet and soft-spoken and he willingly gave his signature smile to allwith whom he made eye contact.Brother Johnson had been ailing for some time and his name was on the sick person’s list for over twoyears as we sought the prayers of the members on his behalf.Just prior to Brother Johnson’s passing last Sabbath afternoon, ElderChristopher Johnson visited with him, ministered unto him, sang songs ofZion for him and prayed with and for him.We believe that Brother Johnson has gone to sleep with the LORD andthat he will rise again when his Saviour and Friend, Jesus Christ returns totake His faithful children home. The title of herdissertation is: "An exploration of the factors associated withsuicide risk and self-harm in Jamaica."Very few studies have been done prior on this most critical area ofmental health in Jamaica so Karyl’s studies will make a significantdifference in policy as well as the administratation of treatments forpersons with suicide risk and who are contemplating or have beeninvolved in self-harm.Dr Powell-Booth says: “These past six years have been long andarduous. But God has brought me through successfully and Ithank Him for His grace towards me while on this journey. Iencourage all persons studying to stay the course and letGod be your pilot. He will not disappoint you. And like me you too will be successful.”Let us pray for Dr Powell-Booth that her ministry to the nation will be Spirit-led as she expands her service for theMaster.Congratulations to Dr Terri-Ann BarrettNine years ago, this daughter of Kencot left Jamaica to pursue doctoral studies at Lavel University inCanada.Through thick and thin, up to the mountains and down in the valleys, she has comethrough successfully.
