Rowling was born July 31, 1965, in Yate, Gloucestershire, England.She has a sister, Dianne. Her parents are Peter and Anne Rowling. Rowling attended Exeter University where she graduated in 1987 with adegree in French and Classics. She worked as a secretary and a teacher. The idea for the Harry Potter books came to Rowling in 1990 when shewas on a train ride to London.
